For everyones benefit these images are of a "Naval" Shipboard Camel (Sopwith 2F.1) only a single Vickers installed on these.  As for the other aileron cables you would have to pull up the floor boards to see them.

Stephen, that is quite the compliment, sir! You are too kind!

I am definitely planning on installing the cables off the control column you mentioned. This is the best reference pic I could find. It shows two cables coming off of the column, but I get the feeling that there may have been others....

Definately an excellent job!  Just a heads up don't forget the aileron and elevator cable attachments on the control column. For everyone to appreciate the close  proximity that has been acheived here.

Thanks much for the comments, my friends! It feels great to finally have been able to get some bench time in and have something to post for it. Thumbs Up [tup]

Next, I figure I'll be buttoning up the fuselage and mounting the lower wing & tailplane surfaces, as well as drilling out my rigging holes.

Shock [:O] That is UNBELIEVABLE work, Mike!  Truly a work of art, especially the minute detail of the wicker seat and turnbuckles.  You never disappoint! Bow [bow]

OK guys, as promised, I am finally able to post some progress pics on my Eduard Camel. Fun little kit so far. These are also posterity pics, as once this sucker is buttoned up, not much of this detail will be visible. Been building it OOB pretty much with a few exceptions. I used stretched sprue for the ignition wires/plugs and the pushrods on the engine. The bracing & rudder control cables are also stretched sprue with small sections of 0.5mm brass tubing from Lion Roar to represent the turnbuckles. The PE 'wicker' seat is a dream. I used the kit PE, frame, and PE belt, plus added a few PE bits from my PART WWI seat PE fret. Painted with MM enamels, Alclad II aluminum & Tamiya, Pollyscale, and Vallejo acrylics. Mike- Rechargable batteries are HEAVEN, let me tell you.

Stephen-thanks for the static grass info.  I REALLY like the way your stuff looks, and I'm going to track down some of that!

Marc-MAN!  Can't wait to see some more shots of that one.  It looks really nice.  Did you cut the control surfaces off, or was there just a big gap in them?

Stephen, thanks for the heads-up on the virus!

Marc, that is really looking sharp! Thumbs Up [tup] I'm hoping to have a few pics up of mine shortly (as soon as the wife is done using the tripod).

Roden has been attacked!
Posted by StephenLawson on Thursday, November 8, 2007 12:07 PM

Greetings all;

Note immediately if you have been to Roden's website check your antivirus.  About 6-10 people at the Aerodrome .com noted that when checking a link on their DH 4 that the antivirus software on their computer went in to high gear.  Mine did too!   Fortunately  a decent antivirus will protect you.

1. check your antivirus "Chest"
2. Delete the contents.
3. Delete all of your temporary internet files and cookies.
(This is a normal cleaning procedure that everyone should follow.)

Looking good Marc!  The color on your prop looks just like the shellac color used.

Marc, your build is looking good. THanks for the link BTW, those are some very convincing scenic material, seems fairly easy to use also as they are 'mats'.

Some progress pics.  Did not like the way the control surfaces attached or looked when they were attached.  Gaps are too big.  Filled in a bit with some plastic card and added "hinges".  I toned down the laminations on the prop too.

"Another question, Stephen-How do you get such nice looking grass for your bases?  Is that stuff you purchase?  It looks so nice and plush!"

Greetings Mr. Drummy, I use several different methods depending on the desired result.  Sometimes I use sheets of pre applied static grass from Germany.   Sometimes I go for a winter, fall or spring look using Woodland Scenics items. I get all of these from a local rail road hobby shop but can probably be picked up from Walthers.

The sheets of static grass that I normally use have a manufacturer's tage. (Imagine that.)

I picked up a couple of set of PE guns.  One is all PE and the other has resin to.  I have only folded PE never had to roll it.  Is there a technique to roll a nice tube?

If the PE is nickel coated metal their techniques are good.  But if its thin brass only a small amount of heat will be needed.  If it is silver nickel then no heat at all will be needed.  Acrylic rod can be used or DML's PE roller tool came in all their kits.  Roll the jacket onto the rod on a ceramic tile or glass pane.
