If this build doesn't boost you ego, I don't know what would!  Great looking finish from here, mate.  She's gonna be a stunner!

Thanks for the kind words there mucker. After my disapointment of the finish on my P-38 I really needed some positive results to keep me from getting to bummed out. I have some rough spots of the future coat to polish out and then I will add the decals and lay on another coat of future hopefully without any dust or runs in it! Then there are a couple of fiddly bits to add and I can tuck her away safely in the display case. I have not added a model to my display case for almost nine months! NMF is not one of my best skills so I decided I would school myself and build a couple. P-38 not so happy with, Model 14 not perfect but i am making progress on my NMF skills. Hopefully i can post some nice pics with decals in place soon to repair my bruised ego.Black Eye [B)]

Nothing at all boring about it, SC! You did a great job with all of the "body work" and she's well on her way to being another stunner.

Finally layed down some color tonight. Nothing fancy just tamiya silver with a coat of future over it. This was probally not the best chioce of kits to do a silver finish on. Just about every part needed to be sanded to fit properly. This is suppose to be the last of Classic Airframes old moulding technology. Definetly buildable but it will definetly wear you down having to sand fill and rescribe almost every single part. I am hoping the large civilian registration letters will break up the single color scheme as she looks a little boring right now.

Well I am totally disapointed in my attemp to model my P-38 in weathered aluminum so I have turned my attention to my Model 14. I have made great progress. Building this kit as a model 14 and not a Hudson MkI has made some points easier and some harder. i saved alot of time because i did not have to construct the complicated rear turret but the hole is already in the fuselage so you have to glue the plug in and putty sand and rescribe the panel lines. The solid nose means less glass to mask but it took alot of sanding to make the solid nose fit the fuselage and then rescribe all of the lines. I have her all closed up and sanded and rescribed. Now for all of the little fiddley bits, and there are alot of them. You know all of the little pieces you do not dare add in the steps the instuctions dictate because you know they will only be broken. To late tonight but I will post some pics tomorrow. The reviews are spot on about the interior. The fit is lousy and the insrtuctions are very unclear as to placement. Thank god you will not be able to see much as the model 14 only has a windscreen and two side windows so almost nothing of the interior will be visible once the canopy goes on. Hope to hear from some of you other guys and get this group build roling agian.

It actually isn't very ambitious. Luckily, the way Hasegawa did the kit makes it easy. They engraved all the little access panels and all the goofy shaped stuff....so the only thing I need to do is scribe the main panel lines which are usually nothing more than a long straight line.....I finished the bottom half of the fuselage in a little under a day....need to go to the art supply store and get a pounce wheel for the rivets before I can really start making progress on the top half

Looks like you're off to a good start on what looks like an ambitious project (seriously doubt I would have the patience for all that rescribing). I've been waiting for some markings to come in the mail for my entry (I like to have everything on hand I'll need for a build before I start it....guess I'm kinda quirky that way Wink [;)] ).

Soulcrusher, I'm looking forward to the progress pics of your model 14. Hopefully soon I'll have some to show as well.

a long time ago, I posted that I was going to enter the GB with a 32nd scale Hasegawa F-16A+/C....I finally got off my butt and started on it....

Here is the cockpit....

Cockpit with seat. Seat is all white metal (Nice, as it eliminates the need for nose weights)

The kit is an odd mix of raised and recessed panel lines. I am in the process of giving the kit an entire rescribe, which I am not sure you can see really good here.

This is my first scribe job, and I am learning along the way. I am pretty happy with the results so far.....not really sure how I am going to do the rivets on the fuselage top and wings though....any suggestions?

SC: I just took a peek over at the P-38 GB and I must say you tackled the body work much nicer than I have. THat's a realy looker you've got going. 9 months is indeed a long time (kinda like giving birth to the model, no?), but she'll be displayed a lot longer than that, so your effort has definately paid off.

Well mucker mine definety would not win any awards but she looks respectable enough to finish in NMF. Many errors are hidden under the painted black nose and engine cowls. The main reason I chose these markings! Even though it is for the P-38 GB I'll post some pics over here and you can judge for yourself how noticable the missing detail from the engine cowls looks. I personally did not deem it worth while to rescribe both of the engine cowls. Lost to the many hours of sanding sticks to make the cowl panels the same shape as the front of the wing panel. Nine months is enough for me. Time to move on. I can wait to see your when you get your decals there mucker.

i'm looking forward to your large P-38, SC. We'll have our finished pretty close to the same time, hopefully. I messed up the body work enough to stay away from a NMF, but all the decal sets out there are for NMF. I'm having some custom ones made so I can do the OD/NG scheme to help hide my gaffs.

It really is a nice kit....just take a lot of time to sand, file and fill.

Cool!Glad to know you guys are still out there. it will probally take me another two weeks to finish up my entry for the P-38 group build then I am planning on attacking my Model 14 with a renewed vigor. I have already made good progress on her. All of the pain in the butt stuff is done. I basicly have to build the interior which only consist of the cockpit since there is a solid nose varient. The wings are already mated to the halves all seems are smoothed over and rescribed. I only put her on the back burmer because i wanted to make some serious progress on my monster 1/32 P-38 Lightning.  That has been on my bench for 9 months! This is a record for me. I usally do not have the patience for 400 piece kits because they always take forever to build. I am so looking foward working on a nice little 1/48 kit where progress is mesured in days not months! Hope to see some progress post from everyone in a couple of weeks when I am back into this one. Cheers!

I'm waiting on some custom made decals....it could be a few more week s before I start back up again on this. Actually I received my canopy masks a few days ago, so now that I think about it I could probably at least start the paint process.

I'm still here too but like bondoman I won't be starting my P-38 until closer to summer.  I've got two other builds on my bench to finish first.

HTTB MODEL
Posted by credible_sport on Monday, April 7, 2008 2:23 AM

Hey Guys,

Check out the progress on my HTTB conversion. In my Photo Bucket Account check under HTTB album for recent photos of my Scratch Built 1/72 scale C-130 Cockpit.

I added a HUD display. Look Closely.

http://s232.photobucket.com/albums/ee297/crediblesport/

The HTTB Nose Radome was cut down from a C-141 Nose Radome. I am presently carving the nose out of scrap sprue and super glue.

After I get the nose radome carved out, I will line up the 3 three fuselage sections and glue them together. I added some wider stouter plastic sheet for the fuselage splice.

Then add the Horsal and dorsals fins. The Dorsals fins are just .060 plastic sheets cut to shape. I cut a 3 3/4 inch slot along the aft fuselage section in line with the Horizontal stabilizer; where the dorsal fins will attach to the aft fuselage and Horizontal Stabilizers.

I modified the Horsal Fin from my spare Airfix C-130 Rudder; then added scrap plastic and sprue to form a horsal fin. I will use this as a master to make a rubber mold and pour one out of resin.

After which I need to carve a wider cord rudder. Maybe widen and build onto the existing rudder.

Then add numerous fuselage details.

I drilled 2 holes in the fuselage and wings for better wing support.

I need to modify the wing leading and trailing edge. The leading edge has a camber to it. I plan to use some for of circle dowel of 1/2 3/4/ or 1/3 from Evergreen Plastic or Plastruct. Then I need to add about 1/8 inch or more to the trailing edge. The Ailerons and flaps are wider than on a stock c-130.

Then I need to modify the engine Nacelles and propellers and other small items.

After this Glue the whole thing together prime it and paint it Gloss black and flat black along the wing and fuselage walkways.

I plant to use either white Decal stripes for the Lockheed insignia or print them on my printer.

I Figure this should take 4 2-6 weeks to finish.

Then I will start on my YMC-130 H Credible Sport conversion. Using the lessons learned from the HTTB conversion on the Credible Sport conversion.

The other modelers work here looks Fantastic.

“A C-130 that can do anything can’t always do everything. In 1980, A follow on rescue scheme, Operation Credible Sport, added large retro-lifting, and takeoff rockets, to a YMC-130H with the idea of landing in Tehran's soccer stadium and flying the hostages out. During the first landing trial, the shattered aircraft was destroyed by fire. Before a second effort could be mounted. " Air & Space August 2004 page 43 Carl Posey

Finally gpt some progress. Glued the wings to the fuselage tonight. I am attaching the wings to the halfves before glueing the to fuselage halfves together to make a little easieir to deal with butt joints of the wings. The shape is pretty close and looks like very little filler will be needed to have a nice looking fit. All in all for a shortrun kit the overall fit is pretty darn ggod. If it had alignment pins and tabs for the wings and stabs it would be a snap to build! In case you have forgotten I am building the Classic Airframes 1/48 Model 14. I have not seen to many build. It was one of the main reasons I chose it for this build.

Lovely work on the Blackbird! I have a 1/72 kit in my stash and I still might build it in the near future.

However..........Today, out of sight of Frank's secret workshop cams I started work on one of my favourite Lockheed fighters of all time. Which one? I'll keep you all guessing for a while..................Big Smile [:D]

SC: The wing-to-boom fit on both sides is less than perfect on mine. One of the underside wing to boom areas is absolutely aweful, but I can't really fix it without setting myself back weeks. I'm thinking that as it is unseen on the underside, I'll give it a little more work to mnimize the impact but that's it.

I really like the Itsy Bitsy scheme, but I'm holding out for some camo. If there was just one or two flaws in my assembly, I'd let it go, but I gaffed in too many areas on this one.

Nonetheless, I blame my self for most of the goofs and still maintain that Trumpeter has put out a very nice and detailed kit.

Hey Mucker I have since glued my booms to the wing and i also have hade some ugly gaps appear on the under wing to boom joint. It is inevitable on this bird that some of the nice rivet detail will be lost in the effort to eliminate some of these unwanted gaps. Me myself I would rather lose the detail and have flush joints. I have done a little research and it appears all L series were delivered in NMF. I have not uncovered any photos of L models with field applied camo either. I prefer camo over NMF also but in this case it looks like I am have to give it my best effort. the plane I am modeling Major George Lavin Jr. plane Itsy Bitsy has alot of panels painted black so there will be alot less NMF showing than normal. Where are your worst gaps appearing? The fit on the top of the wing to the boom was pretty nice but the under wing gaps are pretty nasty.
