That is awesome work, some of the best I've seen!  Those guys look very real, and the little cart and hose look like the real deal.  Excellent finish on the bird, colors look spot on to me as well!

Hello!

please allow me to present my entry for the Lockheed GB 2008. This is the 1/48 Tamiya USAF F-117A which saw action during Operation Desert Storm in 1991. The model was built mostly OOB with the exception of some Eduard P/E in the cockpit.  

The ground crew are from the Hasegawa ground equipment set and the base is home made. I have had a hard time with this build as I have made some mistakes along the way and the model has also been accidentially damaged too. It is not a typical Tamiya "shake 'n bake" kit, but with some determination one can build something that looks like a stealth fighter.

Here are some pics of the build-I have included a shot of the 'pit before it was glued in and a shot from a reference book which gave me the idea for my display base.

Thanks for your encouragement fella's-this build has definately been a ticky one. I'm coming to the end of it now at last!

I have just started adding all those finishing touches to everything and I hope to have it all done quite soon. (Providing no more maphaps occur!) Big Smile [:D]

It seems like this build is really trying, Darren. But you keep coming back stronger and better after every mishap...a real tribute to your skill and attitude. Keep at 'er...this one will be worth the patience.

P.S. I noticed in the latter picture that the 117 was starting to go into stealth mode...you can tell by the blurriness Whistling [:-^]

OK, firstly I am fuming because a photoframe inside my workshop landed on top of my F-117 and smashed its starboard tail rudder, main landing gear and starboard wing elevator.Banged Head [banghead]Banged Head [banghead]Banged Head [banghead]Banged Head [banghead]Banged Head [banghead]

Its almost like the fates don't want this model to be built!Disapprove [V]

But fear not! I have managed to save the day! I put this bad Censored [censored] together and somehowConfused [%-)] it looks OK!

Things are looking up! The sensor window seems to be setting into place quite well and the ground crew are finished.

The canopy has needed a re-spray though......the Tamiya masks did not keep all the paint out so I have re-masked the windows with a liquid mask and ran the airbrush over with a few light mist coats. Hopefully this will solve the problem.

Well...........so far so good. I cleaned out and repainted the internal parts of the forward sensor bay and the window has been re-futured. Its looking OK.

On the bright side, I have been doing some more work on my generator and the groundcrew and they are looking OK so far.Thumbs Up [tup]

Sorry Darren.  That sounds quite frustrating.  I'll see if I can think of any other ideas, but I also know what you mean- I tried rushing the paintjob on my COrsair last year and ended up scrapping it.  But, I DID learn my lesson on it- never rush.

Yes its the same stuff, but I put it on last night thinking it would dry clear-instead its gone rock solid and left a film on the window, when I wiped it, it went all rubbery and left marks. Plus theres all the glue inside to get rid of..........Banged Head [banghead]

Its my own fault-I broke the golden rule and rushed it.Dunce [D)]

By PVA do you mean like Elmer's glue?  If so, when it dries you could just take a damp Q-tip and gently wipe it off.

............I'm having trouble with my F-117. Got too much PVA on the front sensor window and it won't dry clear!!Disapprove [V]

I'm gutted. I will have to rip the window out and clean all around it or paint over the window. I want to keep it transparent, so the window will come out. Never mind, hopefully I'll have it right  over the weekend.Sad [:(]

I've had a pretty eventful evening in the workshop tonight, got the last coats of grey mist and dull coat on and put some finishing touches to my runway generator and ground crew-this build is really coming together!
