Wow man, looking great! Did you blue tack/silly putty the cockpit? I have no idea why I never thought of that...INGENIOUS! Also, question about your wavy stripes - they almost look freehanded, but they can't be...did you do the blue tack/silly putty on those too for the soft edges?

Superb.

Yup, all done with HandiTack or whatever the name is : removable & reusable mounting putty Smile [:)]

3M, Staples ...

I like it because it gives a chance to get a shape as needed and allow for some soft edge

Guys,

be careful when using the blu-tac stuff.  I used it in the wheel wells and gunbays on my Jug and spent more time picking it out than I did building the rest of the kit.  And if you use resin, be doubly careful.  I ended up breaking some of the thinner resin pieces when removing the gunk.

Just a heads up.

Huh. I wonder if blue-tac behaves like silly putty that way - when it sticks, just throw your kit in the refrigerator (seriously!) for about 10 minutes and then it pops right off. Smile [:)]

Well heres how this testors kit is coming along.

I use squadron white putty to fill the seams then spray primer over with it so it smooths.

This kit has alot of fit problems and you had to glue the landing gears in early toSign - Dots [#dots]

Its going to take me awhile to fill all the seams. I'm also useing aeromasters Wolf pack PT.1

sheet. Well thanks for looking. All comments welcome.

Yes, it is Gabreski's aircraft. I have still a lot of work with this one Smile [:)]

I feel your pain with putty and sanding ... this part I really do not enjoy Censored [censored]

I used to use Squadron white putty but ... I was told this stuff is not good ! And I agree, it is not a good putty to fill any seams like you shown.

For such cases use "Mr. White Putty" instead. It is much softer and a bit flexible, not so brittle as squadron white putty. This may be very important if you try to rescribe some of those filled panel lines.

I know it may be bad but it was sure a big jump from testors contour puttySmile [:)] But I spray primer around it which I think it makes it smooth and fills in the holes of the Squadron putty. It looked like it did alright to me, But maybe I'll look up Mr. White PuttyWink [;)]

I've opened up the box, taken out the parts, and starting my first group build. This should be fun.    On the bench:  Hasagawa 1/32 P-47D T-Bolt

Heres some of my progress I'm practically done I just have to wait for the decals to dry. I did this sunday so 50 Hours will be up soon. The way I do the decaling is I finish the model with the exception of glass parts then decal it. Wait 50 hours then flat spray put the glass parts on then its doneCool [8D]. Let me ask gzt I notice alot of modelers put there decals on before the prop-landing gear assembly. Why? maybe theres somthing I'm not getting. I thought the squad putty went well except it made some of the panel lines dissapear. well  I'll post some pics soon.

Thanks for lookingSmile [:)]

Wow, nice stuff you guys.

GZT - what are you using as the base for your impromptu painting stand? Looks very versatile - would love to recreate that on my bench. Big Smile [:D]

Wow, and that little thing can hold up 2 Jugs at a time without falling over? I had no idea. Have seen them around before, didn't think they would be capable of anything like that.

Going to have to place another Squadron order in February, it seems.  Wink [;)]

I have that same exact base and it comes in handy for many things.

You can even bring the clips in towards each other and hold something like an instrument panel while you decal it. Works good!

Count me in with a Testors 1/48th Razorback.  It's going to be in the later markings of the 351st FS - YJ - J.  I'm going to start on her tomorrow, Jan. 29th, 2008, and add a lot of detail.
