You are IN. Welcome to the JUG GB !!!

The GB officially starts on October 1st but some of us (you know who) are already building some Jugs Big Smile [:D]. I signed for just one Tamiya 1/48 Razorback (Gabby's plane) but I already have 1/48 Hasegawa P-47D-25 and today I received decals for last Gabby's Jug ... so it looks I will have three JUGs soon Big Smile [:D]

Welcome again and enjoy tonight's show on History Channel - starts at 10PM EDT and goes for 2 hours !

OOOPS ! Sign - Oops [#oops]

Thanks Fred for the info. It looks I will have (potentially a problem) I did not pay attention to the resin kit application thinking that it requires heavy sanding to fit anyway. But experience says otherwise Angry [:(!]

I got the Tamiya kit  and this roughly needs any AM. Besides the seatbelts I did not use anything out of the PE set, even the IP was OK. I am not sure how the cockpit detailes look on Academy kit, but If I would do it myself, I pick the resin from whoever has one ( and just get seatbelts for US WWII craft.

This one looks good and reaasonable price:

http://www.squadron.com/ItemDetails.asp?item=TD48483

but this one may have a much more detailes (and higher price)

Be careful with the recommendations, gzt.  Those are AM parts for a Hasegawa, and semibold's building an Academy Jug.

They might fit, they might not.  I once tried Eduard masks for a Tamiya kit on a Hasegawa, and they weren't even close.

But check with squadron.com, sprue brothers and maybe a few other places.  Hasegawa and tamiya seem to have the most AM parts.

I keep going with my Tamiya P-47M. Primer is done, patching and sanding done and now I painted metal on leading edges wings and horizontal stabilizers. Canopy also painted.

If you don't mind I'd like to join this build. Being that the Jug is my favorite bird. I'll be doing an oldie but a goodie(maybe 2 or 3, we'll see). Monogram's 1/48 Razorback.

Some prices for decals are just rediculous !

I  looked into swuadron.com for decals of Gabby's last plane and found those:

"Thunderbolt Aces Memorial"  $11.30 made by Eduard.

It is almost 50% of what I paid for the Hasegawa kit ! It is almost like "Get Rich Quick" Big Smile [:D]

Ahh, what the heck, make me official.

Since my F4U-4 and P-47 poll worked out to be dead even, might as well just jump in a GB.

Info again,

1/48 hasegawa D Razorback, 395thFS/368thFG w/ verlinden detail set

There was a question on D-Day stripes and I would like to add a reference to this info, since it may be helpful to more JUG builders here Big Smile [:D]

Here are two picts from Squadron/Signal Publications ISBN 0-89747-161-X : Squadron Aircraft Number 67 "P-47 Thunderbolt in action", page 38, 39

showing location of the stripes.

Well, consider me tentatively interested.  I'm still trying to decide between a jug and a corsair for my next build.

If I settle on the jug, I'll join more officially.  It's a 1/48 hasegawa D Razorback with a verlinden super detail set.  Paint/decal scheme will be 368th FG.

It is a very interesting story and a real inspiration to build a model.

As far as the tv show on P-47 - was it a "The most dadly aircraft - P-47" ??

What has anybody heard about the Vintage models  1/24 'bolt.

I'd do it. I own an R-2800 piston so that might be a suitable base. Served as an ashtray all through the sixties...probably pretty illegal. The wrist pin is a formidable object all by itself.

My buddy Airman Jim who likes a/c but doesn't model has bought a couple of P-40's in that scale/from them which looked ok.

Story- typical Bondoman blather- my Father-in-law was crew chief for a pilot named Atwater whom he teamed with, and just worshipped about, thru nightfighters. P-70, Beaufighter then P-61s. Atwater finally got a P-47 and asked F-I-L to come with. "Only if it gets a back seat!", sez Don! I'd be happy to tell more abt all of those a/c and him because I have 100's of hrs. of his personal history.

Sad to say Captain Atwater was killed in a landing accident. I would do his a/c. I believe that he was in a Squadron in middle Italy in 1944.

OK fess up it's Friday afternoon and I'm into adult bev. #3. There was a story abt p-47s in the Air and Space recently that had photos of these on the taxiways in winter 44 in Northern Europe. The Crew chief would lie on the right wing with a (gloved) hand over/around the weapons on the leading edge and signal to the pilot with his other hand which way to steer. Don sez there was a 6x6 at the beginning of the runway to pick them up. We cannot thank these people enough.

Laugh [(-D] And from everything I've read about the Hasegawa P-47, it's going to be hard to beat!  Cool [8D]
