I planned the Mk I for a looooong time. Hasegawa 1/48 with Eduard details and squadron canopies. Recently I got a Classic Airframes Mk I (early) and this is much better kit. Much higher details - I am not sure about the fit accuracy (I did not build any yet) but just comparing sprues - Classic Airframes is more detailed than Hasegawa.

Thanks guys.  From what you are planning on building, gives me some idea when I hit the LHS and won't feel like a Nerd, when asking dumb founded questions about the HH.

Well journeyed off to the LHS the other day and by golly, he didn't have any in at the moment.  He had three but from a different campain.  Banged Head [banghead]

Going to write down a couple and go back to see which one he can get in.  I'm leaning toward the 1/48 Hasegawa Mk I, but will have to wait and see.  Looking on the internet to see what strikes my fancy.  Did pick up a couple of other items that I needed.

Papa-John,

my LHS has some Hurricanes on shelfs. I may drive there today and check it out if you wish. Let me know before 2PM EST. I saw some Classic Airframes and hasegawas there. Not sure what Mk but possibly Mk I and Mk IIb.

I picked a Mk IIc (Classic Airframes 1/48 Hasegawa) - on sale open box - but I think I will not build this one. If you wish to do it let me know.

Thanks for the offer.  The LHS usually stocks them, but said he was out at the moment.  He can have what I want in in a matter of days.  So, I will deal with him.  Like to give him my business and keep him going.  He is the only decent one we have in town.  The next was is 2 1/2 hours away (one way trip).

Again thanks for the offer.

Was out at the book store.  Found book: British Aircraft of World War II.  Covers over 100 aircraft.  Whistling [:-^] Now I should have no trouble finding a kit to build.  Just a matter of deciding which one and getting it.

PaPa John.........you wouldn't happen to be talking about Redline Hobbies as your LHS would you?

Every time we would do a Code 3 with waiting time into the General I would end up at that shop. Spent so much money there I think my wife is still sore at me......Black Eye [B)]

.......and don't get me started on RCE across the parking lot........lots a $$ there as well.

Yep, thats the one.  There are a couple of others that try to be a hobby shop.  Looked at them and what a joke.

Never been into RCE and maybe I won't, had to by a new computer, (was going to be for my wife, but since I wanted to run NASCAR Thunder 2003 and an odd flight game, she suggested I get one for me and rebuild the old one for her.) Well did that well before Christmas rush.  Put the other one back to the way it was when we got it and set everything up for her.

Did you ever belong to the local hobby club here.

Regarding yourBlack Eye [B)] Won't go there.  Wise men know when to keep their mouth shutTaped Shut [XX]

I believe I showed up once or twice to the local IPMS club. If I remember correctly, they meet at a school or a church? Unless that was the flatlanders fly fishing club, but I do believe it was the model club. Been a while. It was such a long drive that it made it not feasable. Besides, without a model club I spent most of my time fly fishing the local lakes and over in Duck Mountain with my buddy Bob Sheedy.

I hear you about the others trying to be a LHS, but Redline was always the best bet.

Your sig, highway patrol or did you guys get new rides? Also, did you know Sgt. Mark Legea (SP?) out of Punnichy? Those boys are good golfers!

Hello chaps,

here is a quick progress report on my 1/48 Hasegawa Mk.I Hurricane. I've got the 'pit completed and I have put the fuselage halves and wing parts together. I used the kit decal for the I/P and I recon its half decent.Clown [:o)]

I will display this Hurricane with an open cockpit so I have added some P/E seatbelts and I cut the one piece canopy.......its looks OK, but its a hit or miss affair. I packed the canopy full of blu-tack then sawed through the canopy with a razor saw. I have now futured the two seperate canopy parts and I am waiting for them to dry.

Here are some pics of the front office and fuslage...........

I've had problems fitting the fuselage to the wings......there is a huge step on the starboard side! I've dryfitted several times, trimed here and there and the resultb is always the same.Disapprove [V]

It looks to me as if the cockpit floor is too far down where it meets the wings interior. The cockpit lines up inside the fuselage and its locating lugs.....so I have no idea what I have done wrong. I've never heard of any complaints with the Hase kit before.......I have put the model together and put plenty of zap-a-gap aoround the joins. I will clean it all up tomorrow.

I have used some pegs to clamp the wings down while the glue dries.....hop it works!

Howdy Greg,

You twisted my arm my friend.. I am in.... I'll be using Hasegawa's 1/48th Mk.I and probably she will mostly be OOB w/ a few exceptions..

As for markings.. Not sure yet... I would like to do a BoB but the 303 & 306 Sqdn's are catching my eye. I wonder why?!?!? Laughs!!

I have a decal sheet for "Early Aces" 39-40' this could be in line w/ the BoB especially w/ the two units mentioned...!! However I will still look in my Decal stash to see what else I have!!

 Looking forward to participating

Flaps up,

Mike

Hey Darren,

First off, long time no chat... How have ya been?? Same ol same ol at my end.. Except now I have a 1yr old son waiting in the wings... He's a good "Shadow" student.. Laughs

I have a question w/ the canopy.. I too am think of opening mine up.. So the question is, how bad does she look once cut? I mean how thick is the frame work?

Would it be easier to get a vacu formed canopy or the is the kits do able??

Anywho, I love how your pit turned out!! The decal for the IP does look pretty darn good!!

Thank again for looking into this for me!!

Flaps up,

Mike

LOL Mike, that IS too funny!

As for markings, I haven't quite decided yet.  Probably either a Polish or Eagle squadron.

Hi Mike!Smile [:)]

Good to hear from you! All is well where I am.Wink [;)] I didn't know you had a son-he'll keep you busy!

Now about that canopy...........They say its better to use a vac-form jobbie as its meant to be displayed open. The ones I have seen do look the part. However, I thought I would try and save a few pennies and try modifying the kit canopy myself. The only problem is that the kit canopy doesn't sit well in the open position, by that I mean that it does not sit on the canopy sill.

So.... you are faced with work on either option. One is more expensive and accurate. The other is cheap and with a little tweeking, it can be bmade to look half decent. The choice is yours.

Hope this helps.
