Wow. Very nice! Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]

Question about how you "faded" the camo finish - do you go back over the darker colors with a highly thinned mix of the basecoat, or are you using some other method?

Looks great Martin! Big Smile [:D]

Very nice job indeed. Was the 'Polish squadron' writing a decal or freehand. Looks great either way.

It sure is. My last model was the first that I had used it on and I am hooked. I'll use the Tamiya stuff if the GS isn't available but the GS is definitely my preference!!!

Another stupid question...that I can't seem to find the answer for:

For early Hurricanes that are not sky, or black and white underneath, what color grey/white is it? (the color guide sucks in the classic airframes kit and I can't find anything in the walkaround book.)

I am building a very early MK I from the 73sqn with the fixed pitch prop and no ventral fin. With decals on order from Iliad.

 Thanks again!

Yeah, I used it for the first time a few years back and got hooked on it too.  Too bad there is no such thing as GSAA (Gunze Sangyo Addicts Anonymous) as their paint is getting really hard to come by.  When I heard the news about it being absent for quite a while, I went to the LHS and spent tons of $$$ buying out all of their supply of colors I liked.

I don't know about you, but the only colors of theirs I do not like are Black and Tire Black- VERY difficult to get those two to lay down nicely.

As for your Hurricane color question, I am afraid I do not have an answer for you. Sigh [sigh]

Thanks for comments.Bow [bow]

Yes, I drop elevators, and for "faded" camo I use lighter shade of base color and postshading with highly thinned black/red-brown Tamiya paint at HIGH PSI. ( around 25/30 PSI)

The "Polish Sqd" writing was included on Techmod decal sheet. Techmod decals are GREAT but need lots of water for moving around. I only use MICROSET setting solution, because MICROSOL i to strong for Techmod decals.

Thanks again for comments.Bow [bow]

OK,

the sanding is done, I have done some re-scribing and this is how it turned out. The five little re-enforcement "tabs" on each wing were damaged during the sanding process so I will use some spare P/E parts to restore the detail. The pics below show the new panel lines and damage to the tabs.

Some more progress.........

Here you can see the new P/E tabs on the forward wings. Not as well defined as the original, but they do the job.

I have also started the painting, this airframe will be in the early Bown/Green colour scheme and as you can see I have sprayed the first pattern in green. This will be masked ready for the brown to be sprayed later. Hopefully, this model will begin to look like a Hurricane soon!

I might actualy continue with my model once I leave the couch. I have been battling this new flu for going on 3 weeks now. Good grief, it really beats you down and takes all your energy.

If it helps.....I keep thinking about working on it.......LOL

Looking good Darren!  I missed the photo of the initial paint the first time I read this post.  I like the PE replacement parts, they look good to my eyes and with a coat of paint no one will be the wiser.  This is the Hasegawa Hurri, correct?  I wonder why it fits together so badly.

Thanks Frank, I think the fit problems must be down to me-everyone else I know says there is no problem. Next time though I will glue the upper wings to the fuselage first.Wink [;)]

I think I have manage dto turn this one around-hopefully it'll look like a Hurricane by the time I' done.

Darren,

I am having the same problem with my AM Dauntless.  When I glued the wing on, it was ever-so-slightly out of alignment which means everything attached after that needs to be slightly adjusted to fit properly.  A real PITA! Banged Head [banghead]

OK Guys, I just got my Hurricane Mk I (Hasegawa 1/48) box moved from the stash to my work area Smile [:)]

Looking at Darren's struggle, I will stick to my regular routine to glue top wing halfs first. I did it with P-40B, than Spitfire MkIXc and P-47 (Tamiya and Hasegawa) and i am pleased with this process. It is much easier to sand "AWAY" from the wing root  Smile [:)]

I think I am going with Eduard PE only. Hasegawa has pretty nice cockpit and just few enhancements will do the job (unless I change my mind and get those Legend's parts Smile [:)] .... Propeller [8-]

Greg,

Good call on the wing assembly-check the internal wheel bay parts too-I suspect that they are too thick and in turn adds to the fit problems. I am going to sand mine down a good bit before I fit it next time around.

Looking forward to seeing your progress.Thumbs Up [tup]

Hi all, Ive finally gotten round to finishing my Classic Airframes Hurricane. This is one of those builds that just took a little longer than expected. At the CA factory there appears to be a vacancy in the post of flash removal. Almost all the smaller parts come with HEAVY flash and need a fair bit of time to make them look good. Apart from that the kit was pretty good. There were resin bits, vacform bits and pretty nice decals too. It didnt come with any seatbelts so i made them with foil and a couple of old PE bits (For a Tank LOL). I also attempted to recreate the doped on gunport covers. Not sure if i like them or if the Finish versions even had them. Now for the couple of downers in the kit. Assembling the wing took a bit of effort as the resin u/c bay needed the pouring stub removed and, with mine anyway, i needed to sand it down till i could almost see through it. Otherwise it catches the bottom of the pit. When the top part of the wing went on, it was about 1mm too long. More sanding. Next bad bit was the U/C legs were very badly moulded and when fixed in place, had a 5 Deg list.

Finally the biggest downer were the awfull, awfull instruction.

Ah well, this is what modellings all about, right? If it was too easy we wouldnt keep buying more and more. Enough wittering heres the photos. Hope you enjoy.

Questions, comments and Critisisms welcome.

Looks great!

I am about to start that kit as well. I noticed the same thing about the flash, pretty sloppy if you ask me. But, unfortunately its the only model with the rag wing Banged Head [banghead].

I am building a very early MKI, L1568, with no ventral strake, watts fixed pitch propeller, kidney exhausts, venturi etc, as seen in No 73 Squadron in 1938. I am using Iliad decals for the model. Here is a photo from Squadron's Walk Around, and the Iliad decal reference sheet.

Here goes nothing...

Guy- Excellent work my friend!  Sounds like you had your hands full with that one.  You pulled it off beautifully. Thumbs Up [tup]

Guy - came out great!! Cool [8D] Only one little comment - the Hurricane was a British aircraft. Seriously. Like, from Britain! Laugh [(-D]

I know, i know. Its not german. But its not English either LOL. The decals were the nearest thing to swastika's that i could find.

Seriously though. I like odd ball schemes like this, so it fitted the bill perfectly. Thanks all for looking. Im glad you liked it.

Well, the Hurricane has finally been moved to the workbench (ie kitchen table, lol) and I have started some work on it. The work has mostly consisted of trying to fix Classic Airframes sloppy molding...flash as well as separating some resin parts from their sprues. I have managed to get the panel mostly done, except I did cut off the compass and building another, I am waiting on my interior green paint to come in the mail so don't get upset when its all black Wink [;)]. I also scratchbuilt a new venturi as the one supplied with the kit was poor to say the least. I also was able to hollow it out as it should be. I also opened the aft radiator door slightly and will add the control rods when I get it attached to the fuselage. In addition to that I also took the "floor" out, removing excess plastic between the heel plates on the cockpit "floor" for a more scale-like appearance. Anyway, here are a few preliminary photos, fire away!

Looking good so far, One suggestion i would make is assemble the two halves of the fuz 1st and then insert the pit from beneath. Destructions say otherwise but its a fiddly old pit to try to fit to one side of the fuzz.
