Hoorah! Smear the Cowboys! (no offense to any Cowboys fans, though...)

The 103c is looking good...I'm still not sure how you're going to do that camo and keep the lines straightDead [xx(]

SMJmodeler, nice work on your SU-122.

Today I glued on the metal vents to my King Tiger, along with some last min touchs before painting.

FeldMarSchall, your KT is looking good.  That DML kit goes together really well, doesn't it?!  I'm building the same kit for the Panzer Aces GB.  I'm curious....what is the Micro Mask for??

buffleheah, thanks the kit does go together very well.  The part fit near perfect to!  The micro mask I used to prop up the mian gun for the camra, the barrel is heavy so it won't hold at the level you want.

Feldmarschall Model - good progress on the construction! Going to have to ask you to remove your "Winter Warriors" badge until you've completed your build, however. Check out the GB rules on page 1. Wink [;)]

SMJ - liking the looks so far...what method are you going with here, removing white paint, or adding green paint?

MG42 - glad to see some progress - can't beat football for giving you some multitasking build time! Figured out how you're going to approach the camo scheme yet?

dupes,

Both...I painted the model green, then added the white, then came back and used the make-up applicator and bruhes too add green accents.  Finally...as you'll see in my tutorial (if yu're following it) I add "whitewash".

WIP-big day yesterday...and today too, I'm real happy with the results:

Whoah! SMJ, pretty big change between these pics and the last set from earlier. Which thread did you decide to do the entire tutorial in?

Wow SMJ that is looking really good! Very worn and used.

Im making some more headway on my tank. I completed more of the upper hull today, and build the commanders cupola, or as the instructions call it the 'conning tower'

Conning tower detail:

So far the kits been a nice one to build. Its no Tamiya kit, but with some clean up everything is fitting as it should. About the camo, I think Im going to try to use masking tape to tape everything off. I remember seeing somewhere in a magazine masking tape that was really thin, which should let me get the edges of the camo right. Otherwise ill be scouring local shops for masking tape. I know that I will paint the black first, mask it, then paint the green, mask it, then leave the white for last to have the tank mostly white.

Banged Head [banghead] The ICM engineering leaves a little to be desired.  Just the assembly of the cockpit to the engine is probably more complicated than it needs to be, plus the fit of some parts just isn't there.

Sigh [sigh]

I think I can, I think I can....

I'll post some progress pics when I get to a point that's worth photographing.

arki:  Thanks man!!!

some assembly required: Quite a compliment, thanks.  I still need to add naratives to some of the photos, the tutorial isn't done yet either, follow along in Armor if you'd like.

Today I sprayed on dark yellow to my King Tiger, two coths did it.  And I fitted on the wheels.

I made a mount, to hold it to make is easyer.

Looking good FeldMarShall, I remember when I painted my KT. Even with spray cans it took a lot of paint!

I got the tracks/wheels finished today, joined the hulls, got the main gun mounted as well as most of the other small fiddly bits that go all over the top of the tank. Fit was good again, just take care to align the gun halves right during glueing and you will get hardly any seam lines. I also chose to build the massive plow on the front of the tank in the down position. It just looks too cool. This has to be my favorite looking tank of all time. With the camo job, I think it will take center of the display shelf. Heres the pics:

I still have to add the side skirt like things, as well as some other parts to the real hull, but soon it should be ready for paint.

Thanks mg42gunner, infact my other model that I'm doing a Tiger 1 I used up nearly the hole can of spray to!  For my King Tiger I used up the bottle of dark yellow, with needing 2 coths.  I do feel the airbursh gives alot of control than, the spray can.

Painting cammo will be a challange, my airbrush doesn't have a fine small spray.  Might need to practice with silly puddy first.

Looks like some good progress, you guys. Thumbs Up [tup] Any decisions on how you're both going to go about your winter schemes?

Trying to get enough done on my Panther to warrant some pics, been doing mostly PE work (both detail stuff and zim), and I decided since I've got another one of these Panther A Late's in the stash that I'd do a little extra work here and backdate this one to an Early A. Some of the parts are provided on the extra sprues in the kit, just spending a bunch of time reading as much as I can about the A and poring over pics to make sure I don't miss any of the changes.

Before too long I may turn into some sort of Panther-variant expert. Hah! Laugh [(-D]

Warriors,

Besides the tracks (which will be covered with snow), graphite hightlights, dirt, pastels and the usually goodies...spare treads, cables, antenna, headlight, etc...does anybody see anything I'm missing or need to address?...you know how it is when you look at your own work long enough, you tend to miss something obvious.

Thanks for any input.

Juicy! Big Smile [:D]

I'm certainly not seeing much that needs improvement. I guess fire the rest of the accessories on there and let's see how she looks done! Cool [8D]

My only suggestion would be to put the seam in the tracks around ither the sprocket or the idler where it can't be seen so obviously. Other than that, it looks great.

Hermesminiatures,

Thanks for the comment and suggestion.

I plan to hide that seam with snow.  These tracks have been REALLY tough to work with (long story)  and I knew from the start I would need to deal with that seam.

Angry [:(!]

Stinkin friggin kit....

Unless the engine is installed dead nutz correct then you have zero chance of getting the 4 (!) part cowling together.  One guess as to whether or not I installed the engine perfectly...Yuck [yuck]Censored [censored]

So, since I really only need the engine because the exhausts are attached to it, I cut the engine free.  Now I'll carefully remove the exhausts and go to plan B.

One step forward, four steps back.

Too bad on the fit...that's quite an impressive hunk of engine-plastic. Sad [:(]

Is there no "external exhausts" option with the kit? You have to install the engine (or use the engine exhausts) to finish it? I guess what I'm saying is, no replacement part if you don't want to install the engine?

That's exactly correct, there are no alternate exhaust attachments if you don't want to use the engine.  This is ICM's engineering at it's best (tongue in cheek).  The engine is nicely detailed though.

I removed the exhausts successfully last night.  I think what I'm going to do is glue some tabs to the inside of each cowling for the exhausts to attach to.  The trick will be making sure the tabs "sit" the exhausts correctly when viewed from the exterior.

I think it will work, just gotta play with it.  I know I've done the right thing because I felt so much better about the build after jettisoning the engine.  Moving forward again Thumbs Up [tup]

dupes, if it's okay with you I'll be changing my build once again, to the AFV Club M18 Hellcat. I doubt if I'll have time to do the T-34 project to the level I want it within the GB timeframe, so I'll see about doing the Hellcat OOB (well.....more or less...)

Hahaha, no problemo Hermes. I'm going to be doing that same kit for the Hunters GB, so I wouldn't mind seeing yours in progress anyway. Wink [;)]

Are you going to be able to start soon?

The AFV M18 is my second-most built kit, after the Tamiya Panther - I've already done two; this will be the third. So...I can throw it together really fast by now, since I know where all the problems are.

I started this morning and completed all of the major construction, and hope to do some PE work this evening on the M2 .50 MG, and add some wire for the brush guards. Then it'll be on to paint!

Hermes - you don't happen to have a summary of those issues, do you? Wink [;)]

And I thought that this one was going to be "OOB"...? Laugh [(-D]

Some good news and some bad news...which are really the same news. The wife is going to Boston shopping with one of her friends for the weekend, which means I should have 48 hours of  uninterrupted modeling time in my VERY near future! HaHA! Big Smile [:D] I see the Panther conversion/assembly being complete by Sunday night!
