Even the 1 million pixel cameras (if you can find them) are around $100. I laugh at my friend who payed over $500 when they came out. [:0]

Big Smile [:D] Hello everyone,

I just ordered a Tamiya Panther G Early Version, also had to get the tank crew at rest, to go with it Whistling [:-^] I hope that was ok to add a little something to it. Other than the tank crew, I am not going to do much else I dont believe since it is my first one in a long, looong while. Trying to stay pretty much straight from the box. Sad thing is, I already have a few ideas swarming through my tiny brain. Other than that, will have to see when it gets here, and get it ready to begin.

Thanks

Modeling Fiend: Tamiya Panther G is a nice kit. I have built a Tamiya Panther G already and the fit was very good. It already included two crew with the kit. It came with rubber tracks which also fine. If you want to go for the indy track links, however, Tamiya has already issued a separate kit for it. And of course there are a lot of aftermarket track links in the US.

Good luck.

I have Tamiya's "A" and "G", for this I will be doing the "A". I'm armed with Fruil tracks, Aber PE, Verlinden Panther engine pack (engine, compartment and radiators/fans) some sheet styrene, Tony Greenland's "Panzer Modeling Masterclass" and his article in FSM.
I may get some Archer transfers to make it easier to model both kits in the same unit markings with some other vehicles per my dio idea posted previously.
I might go with 16th Pz. Div. in late summer/early fall, a non SS unit with a great combat record.

Hello everyone,
Thanks for the replys, and thanks for some more info on the panther g as well, I am going mostly by everyones comments as what model to stay around.

Main thing I have been thinking of was making one of 2 scenerios.
1.) Purchasing the tank engine crew and making a diorama of the crew setting around the tank, while they get there engine worked on.

2.) Purchasing the ammo loading crew and make a diorama of tank getting ressupplied.

3.) Combine them and make a diorama of tank getting a tune up and resupplied with ammo

or
4.) This is my first one, due to I think it will be the easiest, useing the tank crew at rest that I ordered, and making a diorama a tank crew at rest, thought of making a small field diorama and making the tank look to be parked next to a tree, with the crew sitting around, or a ruined building them parked as if awaiting to ambush, but have the crew sittting around relaxing as though there not expecting anything for a bit.

I dont think there too big a brainstorms but they may be easier for me to accomplish with my limited skills. Blush [:I]

Thanks

Picked up my kit yesterday... Big surprise, it's Revell's 1/72 kit, ausf.D or ausf.A... Anybody else's doing small scale in here?

I plan to do a diorama with this one. Normandy.

Dominique,
i think Frosty is going w/ a 1/72 or 1/76 kit.
not sure if there are others.

well, last night i opened all the platic bags,
took the sprues out and gave them a going over in some warm water & dish soap.
minutes of good clean fun w/ toothbrush. Smile [:)]

read thru the instructions for the kit, then for the PE zim.
then everyting went back in the box.
i am taking it w/ me when i go up to NY for Thanksgiving.
figure i can start on the roadwheels or something.
i know the 1st isn't until Monday, but i have a feeling i will soon be left in the dust! [:0]

WIPW,
The Shanghi Dragon kit is very nice indeed. I have built a couple of them over the years. There are some peculiar areas though. The engine deck is designed to facilitate a lot of options so there are fillers around the grates that require some filling and sanding. Also the bolted plates on the inside of the final drive housings are missing. There are parts in the kit (for another option) that with a little modification will work fine. (if you have any more questions please contact me via email...

I am building this Kit myself for this group build. I am going to swap some parts out for tamiya parts. I have the Tamiya JP late which has a lot of leftover parts from their late G. I also have a set of Tamiya steel wheels that I am gonna swap out though the kit wheels are very nice. I have built their tracks once before as well. they build up nice but I prefer to have more working time so I am using Modelkastens track on this one. I think I am going to use the commanders IR station but not the other two. I have just about decided to say to heck with historical accuracy on this one and add the options that I want...just so it looks cool huh! :-)

Its about that time....

Kenneth: would you be willing to part with the dragon road wheels?
I'm doing Tamiya's A and am trying to find a cheap way to get the road wheels right. I could steal them from my G but then I would have a wheel less G. I know there are a couple places that make replacements but can't remember who and I can't find the posts.

Sure no problem... I need to find the other sprue though. I was wading through parts last night and seem to have misplaced on of the road wheel sprues. I'll hunt it up tonight and get back with you in the morning. If I have them all I will send them right away. Shoot my your address to my email.

I believe Brian (JHulk) is contemplating a braille scale, too.

I believe ModelKasten makes a set (kind of pricey), and I think greatmodels has them in stock.

Bill,
i think you are right abt J-Hulk.
but isn't Braille scale the 'big' kits, not the little ones Question [?]
like 1/32 or 1/24 in airplanes) or 1/25 or 1/16 armor?

ww;

hmmm, don't know about that. Seems to me it's 1/72 I've seen refered to as braille scale here, but what do I know. I see the logic of you're argument. Looking at it the other way, the small stuff could be called that because you can't see the part. Have to do everything by feel. Guess we could start a thread to find out what everyone else is thinking!!

Chris;

You've been taking luck lessons from me, it sounds like. But I've learned. My 45 mile away LHS got 14 of the Shanghai Dragon Panther G's in on Friday. I called and they put one back for me. Saturday when I went to pick it up, it was the last one left! I'll bet every retailer wishes their stuff would move like that!

Well seems like my luck just got worse. Looks like I'm not going to back down in that area again for a while. So back to great models it is. Seems how my day is going. Went to a sandwhich shop for lunch today starving only to find out they were out of bread.

Do have a couple of questions though as this is the first time I have shopped for aftermarket stuff. How do I know if the barrel I pick will work with the kit I have? On great models it don't say what it's for other than the type of tank and under the cmk czech there were 2 diff. barrels for panther g. Also would the aber pe detail set fit the tamiya panther g? Figure if I'm going to do some pe might as well try to really do some. I'm sure something else will come up. Thanks.

Chris I would look into Eduard's 1-piece barrel. Everyone, including myself seems to prefer it over others. It specifically says it will fit Tamiya kits.

Bill, too bad that Shanghai kit isn't a late model G, I want one.

Mr. Eric, Sir;

It is a late model G. Not a steel wheel, but the mantlet has the chin on it. Not sure what all else makes it out to be a late, but I'm not sure they equiped anything but the late with the IR anyway. As far as that goes, I don't think they even got it (the IR) fielded, but not sure. More Whermach(?) 46 stuff!

Blush [:I] This is the week from Censored [censored] at my work and my mind is frazzled. Well, that is good to know. Spurs my interest again. Does it have the raised engine fans? I thought some D's were converted? Actually in one of my references "Panther" by MBC, it shows a line drawing of a D with IR. The D has an A's cupola. I don't know. Confused [%-)] I think some did make it into combat and were pretty successful to boot.

Wow, that sounds like one poor little mixed up Panther. A "D" sporting an "A"s cupola with an IR unit to boot! Hmmm. could be an interesting build!!! LOL No, no, don't get me started!!!

I'm not sure about the engine fans. I'll have to go look. I haven't even opened any of the bags yet. Just drooled over them a little. Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg] I'll have to take a look. btw, didn't know that a raised fan was a mark of a G. I'll have to check my refs on that. You don't mean the shroud they put over the engine fans to heat the interior by chance??

Ok after sifting through over 4800 things at greatmodels, could'nt get it to search just panther g, I have come up with a few things including the eduard barrel. I found the tamiya pe grills but would the aber pe detail set with the grills work on the tamiya kit? I have been wanting to try some pe and figure this is as better a time as any.

Chris, I assume they would, but don't know enough about them. Aren't they spendy?

Bill, it's the raised cover over the left air intake fan. The late G also had different exhausts or at least some did.

In case anyone was wondering about a post I made eons ago about abandoning my ambush scheme for my early G, I came across a line drawing in my Osprey book showing an A in an ambush scheme in the autumn of 44. I might just do that now. So if I lead anyone astray about doing one themselves, it looks to be o.k. to work for an early G or A.

the instruction sheet for my aber pe (pn:35024) says for tamaiya and dragon models (all variants of G models i assume). there is also the set #35a24 which is side skirts and fenders for the same kits

edit: i'll say this about the 2 aber pe sets i have.....the instructions are pathetic, one sheet printed on both sides, prety disapointing for the amount of parts in there

I'm just going to go ahead with the tamiya grills and eduard barrel. Don't want a pe set with lousy instructions for my first time with it.

Yes, sir. It's all there. Big Smile [:D]Big Smile [:D] Flame supressing exhausts, chin mantlet, shroud over the left fan. I think I read that it was for heating the interior for the crew.

greatmodels isn't showing any of the Shanghai Dragon in stock, but they are showing the Dragon in stock. Same price. Same number, other than starts with dr instead of sd!! Pretty crazy!

Have a great night.

Thanks Bill! Big Smile [:D] One last question, I believe Dwight said you can build it with or without the IR. Yes? Oh, and does it come with schurzen?
