Ok here is what I got so far on the SBD Dauntless and the TBF Avenger.

And I got the Green Zinc Chromate primer painted on so lets see how this works with the first coat of paint.

I'll try later in a couple days once I interiors done before I button them up.

On that silvering issue on the Corsair, you should be able to put on a coat of Future to eliminate it.  I've had that happen in the past and the second coat of Future did take care of the problem.

I have completed my B-52 for this build.

This was a nice and mostly relaxing build of an old kit.  I'd built it as a kid but didn't really remember it.  Went together pretty well considering its age.  Its detailing was about what one would expect.  I was really tempted to scratch build a bomb bay but that was going to necessitate violation of the rules (after-market bomb purchases) so I just went with the lame little bomb plate Monogram included for this kit.  Maybe this will spur me to get another one of these and really detail it ... but given this monster's size, I don't know where I would put it!

Thanks for hosting this GB!

well I finally used my airbrush for the first time in several months and had done the Zinc Chromate for the interiors of the SBD and the TBF i'll probably go and do the Corsair later tonight or sometime tommorow. Then when I get them assembled I'm going with a Zinc Chromate primer coat (like the real thingTongue [:P]).

what did you use for the glass coat future? if you did you shouldn't have used micro-sol since it reacts with the future by causing the future to craze.

I've also heard allowing Future to seep in under the decal will eliminate the problem also, although I haven't actually tried it myself.

I would try poking a small hole in just the silvery part of the decal with a needle... then letting some Micro-Sol seep in through the hole. I've used this technique with success in the past... HTH!

The pics are a little fuzzy due to the camera focus point being behind the aircraft, so that could be adhesive, but more likely silvering of the decal at the edges.

Did you apply a gloss coat before setting the decals?  Have you used any setting solution for the decals?

All right y'all...status report. Corsair, decals applied but I ran into a snag, see the pics below....on the fuselage star&bar, the outer edge of the decal, glue left behind...how can I remedy/hide it? Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Pleas help, I'm actually quite happy with the paint job, then this happens.

Keep in mind EC-130, no AM per the front page! Big Smile [:D]  Post pics when you get the chance.

I've finally started on my AT-6.  Primered the cockpit pieces, and noted that there are some parts broken and damaged.  Nothing that looks unfixable, however.  I do worry about the decals, though.

I got started on the old BUFF kit this past weekend... drilled a bunch of vent holes in the fuselage. Took a look at that flight deck, and does this kit show it's age! I'll be keeping this build as close to an OOB build... but do I ever want to superdetail it!

Got the horizontal stabs and external tanks glued together; things are going together well (so far) considering the age of the kit... but that bomb bay, I have to do something about it!

Hey, no problem.  One of my IPMS clubs [yes, I belong to two of them, pres for one, VP for the other.] just got done with their annual contest.  It was great.  And now that its done with, I can get back to some of my builds, including the F8U.  then onto the B-26, which is also part of the Medium Bomber GB.

Thanks, Viper!  I'd get in that YMBC program too if they brought it back (and I'm 58 years young).  I have 8 or 9 of those bagged kits still in excellent shape, including the B-26 and Kingfisher.  Didn't even know the program was in effect back in the '70's/'80's.  Times have changed have they not?

Absolutely.  I wish Monogram would re-introduce that program.  Even at 25 years old, I would sign up.

Tracked down the build responsible for the great GB Classic Badge and read all 13 pages.  Hey, this looks like FUN!  If it's not too late to join the build I'd like to offer a Monogram P39/400 Airacobra kit (first issue 1969/1970).  I'd be building the Young Model Builders Club bagged issue kit No. 6903.  Just opened the bag and looked at that green plastic.  The decals look to be in fine shape and the instruction sheet is in super nice shape for an old kit.  Had been stored in the original YMBC brown box for years.  Hope to hear from you so I can get started.

I have a table in the office that I can leave things on but my favorite places to work are down in the sunny living-room or at the diningroom table among my family and domestic animals. Trick is to be able to deploy quickly and pick it up and put it away even quicker. I'm now using a translucent hobby tackle box to carry my main tools, glues, tape and brushes, and a selection of paints. Until this year I used a 6 qt plastic shoe-box with an Academy airplane box holding the small stuff on top of the layer of paint jars below. I've flown cross country with it, all the paints are water based, mostly Polly Scale, and the TSA doesn't complain if its in checked baggage. Having the 'stuff' you need for a given stage of the project in an easy-to-carry form is a big plus.

The second trick I use is spreading parts, partially completed models and part trees out on "banker's box" lid. I fiip them over to work like a tray, and any lap-sized tray would do.They're lightwieght, you can put one in your lap and sand, carve, clip, paint, etc, without making a mess. They're big enough to hold a few standard size sheets of paper for references or instructions. Between the kit box and one of these trays, you can transport airplanes up to 1/48 single engine and 1/72 multi-engine, 1/24 or smaller cars, etc. And They Stack. :^)

As much as possible I like to keep the parts with the kit box but some kit boxes are hopeless and some kits just need a lot of space when building, so they live in the tray once started. With about 1" (25mm) rims, part trees in the trays don't touch the or kit box stacked on top of them.

Its also easy to mix parts from several projects on one tray if they all need the same thing- common interior colors, rubber tires, gunmetal, rusty steel or iron, thin or sludge washes, decals, dry-brushing, lights and beacons, etc. When you're done, deal 'em back out to where they came from. For those of us who find it too easy to start projects, being able to make progress on a number at once sure helps!

LOL, I have a 7in TV that is mounted to the back of my workbench.  Its connected to my DVR, and I record a bunch of stuff off the military channel.  So I watch that, wrestling, or Cops when I build.  helps pass time when I have a part in my hand and I'm applying pressure while the glue cures.

I'd like to join this group build, if I could. I've got a Monogram B-52D (I think the pressing is 1990's vintage, though the moulds date back to 1968 or so) that I'm starting as an OOB project... though I'm not sure if it will be a B-52C, D, or E at this time...

Arki, yeah, the tail "folds" down.  But in reality, it comes off, then goes back on in a folded position.

Rob, looks darn good for an oldie but goodie. Thumbs Up [tup]  Does the tail come off as well?  I'm assuming that's the reason for that huge joint.

On my end, I'm slowly but steadily working through the GB's to get to this one.  I should be able to start in the next couple of weeks.

Hey guys, I finally got around to getting some pics of my Skywarrior.  I've been busy with preparations for my club's upcoming contest [now only 6 days away].  And trying to get a couple models finished for that event.  So, here is my classic Revell A3D Skywarrior.  I wasnt able to keep the wingfolding feature, as the pins in the wing broke.  And I wasnt too pleased to find that the decals in the kit, were not that of the box art.  they ARE for a Skywarrior, but not the right one.  They didnt match the instructions, so I was very puzzled on where they go.

Well I got some slight work done on the TBF Avenger and the F4U Corsair while waiting to see if the garage will be warm enough for me to use the compressor or not. What I did was paint the wheel wells on both planes and the interior of the Corsair was painted as well. Now I'll try to see what I can do for the TBF's interior before I try anything else with it.

Jeepers, that's beautiful, and huge! I built the B-36 and had to hanging on my ceiling for some years, before it got trashed in a move. I really like the way you've painted the BUFF. Remiinds me of the 1:1 version at Castle Air Museum, formerly Castle Air Force Base.

I loved working parts kits as a kid- I never could get behind the "I glued all the working parts because I'm a modeler, not a toy maker" comments one used to see in Scale Modeler...  Back in the old days I told people that what I built were 'toy airplanes" because I absolutely intended to make the working features work, it all possible.

Having said that, is this build limited to airplanes, or are cars, ships, armor, dinosaurs, etc, also allowed?

My favorite classics with moving parts, that I build myself, mostly in the classic era, are:

Revell "TFX" F-111A/B - complex, retracting, landing gear; swing wings; detachable escape capsule; radome removable to show generic Revell radar (same as A-11/YF-12 kit...) Still one of my favorites.

IMC Ford GT/GT Mk II race car- doors and hood and trunk (in front) all pivoted open. Steerable front wheels. Issued in the original GT-40 shape, then the -as--prepared-by-Carol-Shelby version that won Le Mans 1-2-3 in 1966, with significantly different nose and aft bodywork. Re-issued again to commemorate the John Wyer/Gulf Oil light blue and orange cars that won in 1968 and 1969.

Monogram SBD Dauntless. Five segment airbrakes, retractable main gear, rotating prop, turning wheels, movable flexable mount machine gun, dropping bomb! I got two of these for my 10th birthday, when they were brand new. What a great kit! They came with TWO bombs and with two kits I had four total- so I glued a pin into one of them and would bomb balloons in the family room.

Tamiya  Matra MS-11 V-12 F1 racer. working suspension, small, flexable, springs represented the brake lines, clear plastic tubing for fuel injection, electric motor inside the V-12, gear box inside the gear box, the engine could be installed and removed, along with the axle shafts. Each axle shaft had two Hooke joints, tires were semi-peneumatic (ie hollow, flexable, rubber). 2 AA cells went where the driver's legs should bave been- with the batteries installed, it could crawl aound whiring...

Tamiya 1/25(?) Tiger tank. fFully articulated  suspdsssisons. My pal Bill S. had one, I loved playiug with it.

No, it's 1/72 but it's bigger than the 1/48 B-17 I have hanging in the garage.  Bigger than the B-24 and B-58 (both 1/48) also.  I'm thinking only the B-36 I'll be building one of these days will rival the B-52.

Good lord that is COLOSSAL! Shock [:O] And it looks GREAT! Big Smile [:D] Just looking at the size of the newspaper it's sitting on...is it 1/48 scale?

I can completely understand why this is going to be hanging from the ceiling. Propeller [8-]
