Viper- I submit the Armstrong Whitworth Whitley as a second model. It's the 1/72 model made by Frog, actually the only Whitley injection set of molds, since then used by Novo, Maquette.

There are some real nice upgrade models on the www, but I want to build OOB, and Coastal Command because of the nice radar parts, so she'll pair up nicely with the Short.

I've been box-ogling this evening, it's a nice kit for it's vintage, and found this one great little part:

I've never seen this before, and I like funny old kits. Bombs away!!

Is it to late to start in the Group Build? I have a 1/48 FW-190 from Monogram I would like to enter. Plus I really like the Group Build Emblem.

Just letting you guys know I haven't dropped out and the Dauntless is finished, I'm just holding back on the pics until i can run to Hobby Lobby or my LHS and get a wooden base and brass tubing for a stand. I forgot to install the gear struts before you put the wings on and could only build it retracted. 

Also, what, or would any, Airfix kits qualify for this, in other words are there any old enough?

Hey guys, builds look great.  Cant wait to see more.  Myself, I am struggling to get e free minute to even set foot in my workshop, let alone work on a model. right now I have the A3D in white, waiting for its gull grey.  The model is NOT an easy one.  A lot of issues, and I still dont like the "cockpit".

Nice work so far, everyone!

I've finally decided to get started on this build even though I haven't finished that whopper of a group build I've been working on since December (P-40 group build where I'm building 5 P-40s at the same time, yack!)

Any way, I'm building the old Monogram F4U Corsair kit.  It's going to be strictly out of the box with absolutely no additional stuff, not even a bit of cockpit wiring.  This will be a nice change of pace considering all the scratch-building I've done recently for the old Monogram P-40 and the Hu-16 Albatross I did for the Grumman Iron Works GB.

So far not much progress.  This morning I put down the interior green.  Here's the picture I took of my limited progress.

I'm planning to have this build done in the next couple of weeks, depending on arrival of some color of eagles paint I ordered last night from Great Models.

Thanks Barry, I can not even get to my bench right now. I bought over 500 WWI & WWII aircraft kits from an estate I am sorting. But on the bench is a Polikarpov I.153 that is almost complete and a Messerschmitt ME-163 Komet waiting for me to fill the seams.

Dupes, the clearcoat I used was some rattle-can clear enamel I had laying around. It worked out real good for me once I learned Not What to Do. I used Solvaset and the "melted" right down over the panel lines and rivets.

While we're on the subject of decals, I ran into a bit of a problem with the old decals in the Mongram AT-6.  I'm trying Talon acrylic paint for the NMF - so far I like it, but that's another story.  Anyway, I tried applying a couple of kit decals to the underside of the wing - the national insignia and the aircraft serial number.  Things seemed to go pretty well - though the clear decal film between the numbers is very visible against the NMF.  I applied some MicroSol so the decals would conform to the raised detail - I've done this a hundred times in the past.  The national insignia came out fine - settled down nicely and looks like it was painted.  The serial number ended up badly wrinkled.  Sometimes repeating the MicroSol application will help, but not this time.  Fortunately its in a place that isn't immediately visible.  I'm thinking of removing the decal and forgetting about the serial number markings on the wings.  Does anyone have a great method for removal decals without hurting the underlying paint?

I usually overcoat decals that are not fairly new with the Testor's decal film in the spray can, or brush on the Microscale decal film.  That is the same thing the decal makers use for the carrier film, and hangs the ink image together while you are wetting and applying the decals.  No ink or paint can survive the handling we do when we are transferring decals, it is the decal film that makes it possible.  You do have to cut out the decals individually once you have overcoated them, but many modellers do that in any case to reduce the possibility of air being trapped under the clear areas of the decal, which can cause "silvering".

Hey Summit, how does the spraying clearcoat thing work? Wouldn't it end up disappearing when you dip it in the water? Or, if it didn't, wouldn't it prevent the decal film from releasing? Never tried this before...but I think I may have to with these ones. They're pretty crusty. Dead [xx(]

ever since I got it my photos are MUUUUCH better. And it's SUPER cheap (and easy) to set up. Give it a try! All of my pics currently are shot with 2 60 watt bulbs, both in standard desklamp setups. Too easy! Wink [;)]

Thanks Guys,                                                                                                          Dupes, I sprayed  sprayed many aplications of clearcoat over this sheet of decals.  After I soaked them I made my First Mistake. Do Not Attempt to Slide it Off the Paper. It will just crumble. That is the reason for No Flying Tiger Banged Head [banghead]  Second Attempt - I lifted the Edge with my Xacto Knife and after I got an Edge up I used my Tweezers to Slowly Lift  The Decal off the Paper. Several Times I redipped it in the water for stubburn areas.  The Grinning Teeth are only about 90% Decal and the rest I painted on matching what should of been.                                     Hopefully someday I will Find a Unit Insigna for this Bird then weather it up some.

Andrew this kit actually took some time with cleanup and fitting, but hey what else is there to do but build Models all day ! Wink [;)]

Steven Your Right about It Was all About Getting it Put Together. Ps My Wife Still has her old TAM Cheerleading Uniform around here Somewhere ! Tongue [:P]

That's probably because you were a lot like I was ... you didn't care about things like "fit", "flash" and the like.  Probably because those terms didn't exist.  It was a model airplane and it was all about getting it put together.

And that's a great job on that P-40E.  I remember building that kit many times as a youngster, and I'd love to tackle it again as an "oldster".

Hi Guys, I have Completed the Revell P-40E Flying Tiger.All options that came with the model works- Canopy Slides, Elevators and Rudder, Cowl Panels & Even The Gear Retracts ! There were many times I wished this Kit was back in the closet. But then it would still be in there Lurking . I can Honestly say, I do not remember These Kits being that Bad (Parts Fit, Flash, mis-aligned pins) as a youngster. The Decals were barely Salvageable , what you see is Is all I could Save. Lots of Clearcoat sprayed over them.... Hope you Like. Have I Earned  the Rights to The Group Badge ?

Here is the progress on the P-40E muscle. I used quite a bit of .010" styrene to fill up the vacant holes on the supercharger body. It did not look right hollow. Found a few pieces of aluminum tubing and drilled them for the spark plug wire piping, and bent small copper wire for the spark plug wires. Addes a few other pieces other piping made out of .031" solder wire and called it good enough.

Here is my latest progress on the Revell, I matched the colors the best I could. Dont have a lot of US colors in my paint supply as I mostly build German AC. There was so much room I did my first attempt at scratchbuilding a harness, I used masking tape and some fine wire to make the buckles. The dash I highlighted the gauges with a White colored pencil then sealed it with a mist of Dullcoat. I have also assembeled the landing gear and with a Lot of .010" shim stock I believe the Gear will stay retracted insted of hanging halfway down.

here are the Nichimo TBF and the Revell/Monogram F4U-4. Started on the TBF last night and will start painting when it warms up enough.

And yes everything will work.
