Here are two photos of the Pershing as it advances towards its encounter with the Panther at the Cologne Cathedral.

I posted a link and some info regarding the Pershing/Panther encounter in the original idea thread, which you can find here.

/forums/5/902386/ShowPost.aspx#902386

as I understand it that was a Super Pershing longer barreled and only one of 2 in the theater, panther first round a miss, pershing first round hit no damage {high explosive not tank round}, second panther hit or near miss no damage {may have been anti tank round}, second pershing hit through the hull probably set off ammo blew the turret loose killed the crew if this is the DUEL AT DESSAU

I mention this because over at Track 48 forum there is a resin super pershing almost ready Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg] I have no conection, other than a possible customer

Different Pershing, different encounter.  The Pershing you're talking about faced a King Tiger at Dessau.

The one I'm doing, which is in the photos, is the Pershing from the encounter with the Panther near the Cologne Cathedral.

SU-76M

SU-76M of the 1223rd Light SP Gun Regiment enters Vilnus liberated by the Red Army. 5th Gds. Tank Army/3rd Byelorussian Front, July 1944

If I decide to join this GB, with a SU-76M, would this be acceptable as urban?

I think you mispoke, option #1 is with a diorama. Option #2 is a stand alone tank. Plus, I don't think I have the skill level yet to do a realistic diorama, but maybe oneday in the future.

I'm thinking I'm going to have to do option #2 aswell as I think it's going to be pretty difficult for me to find korean figures at a decent price, and a diorama without figures is (in my opinion) not much of a diorama.

does anybody have any information regarding the Super Pershing? The only picture I can find is after WWII or before it was shipped out. any idea for a diorama?

This should fit for the build but I cannot find what I should have for decals and I cannot find pictures of it in a city fighting which it did do. this would be a second build for this GB

I'm waiting for hermesminiatures to determine if the original badge idea he posted a while back can be used.  If not we'll go with the one he posted a couple weeks back...both are really cool!Thumbs Up [tup]  I'll put you down for option #2.

yes I have, but it is a post WWII shot {I think} either that or pre shipping to ETO I doubt that it went to war with it's model # on the side of the turret. that site seems to be about all available online

OK SMJ,

I have my build figured out (for now) - I am doing option #2 (no dio) and I'll be building the DML 1/35 scale Stug IV Late (SdKfz 167).

It will be based on an art print I found representing a Stug IV from Sturmartillerie Brigade 249's attempt to break out of Berlin following the death of Hitler.

SMJ UPDATE - talked to him a little while ago, has finished the move from CA to NY, just doing a bit of remodeling to get his house 100% to move in. Said he would be back on the forums in a couple of weeks, and that everyone should feel free to fire away on the first of May! Big Smile [:D] He may not be around for the official kickoff, but very shortly thereafter. Wink [;)]

Wow...kinda quiet around here lately. Whistling [:-^]

Hey fellas - talked to SMJ a couple of days ago, he's still not 100% squared away with his move, but assured me he'd find time to get on the forums in the next week. Wink [;)]

Sounded disappointed that he wasn't around for the "official" start of Urban Armor, but said that it is GAME ON! Big Smile [:D]

I'm sure he'll review the entire thread upon his return, so any of you that submitted ideas/builds will no doubt be added at that time.

Commence Urban Armor! Cool [8D]

Guys:  Sorry I missed the official kick-off for this GB, and thank you dupes for watching over things while I was gone.  I was hoping to be on the forums sooner but my move has been keeping me busy...as you can imagine.  I'm pretty well settled in now and the hobby room is almost operational, so I should be starting my Panther A pretty soon!

This is a small group for this GB, and although it's an especially ambitious task for those of us building dio's, I think the tight knit group will be beneficial.  I already have some ideas for my Rome Colosseum construction...it should be pretty cool, I'll post progress pic's as usual.  I build architectural models frequently so feel free to bounce ideas off me about your dio's.

Let's have some fun!!!

SMJmodeler

I had a chance to review the thread:

browniii:  Please post that picture you mentioned.

corvettemike:  Nice picture, I hope you'll turn that into a dio' build!...let me know.

m42gunner:  I have you down for something Russian...have you decided yet?  Please re-read submittal options too and get back to me.

Hermesminiatures:  We need to finalize the badge ASAP!  Did you ever dig up that origainal picture with the Russian and German tanks?

Will do once I get my laptop back from the repair people. I don't usually install a copy of all my expensive software on every computer in this house, especially not this dinosaur. It would probably quit if I tried to run Photoshop...

Here's my entry, don't know if I submitted a photo yet...

SMJ,

Welcome back.  Glad to hear your move is nearing completion and you are getting yourself organized.  I am not exactly sure what picture you wanted me to post - I suspect it was the artwork of the Stug IV in Berlin?  I'll see what others I have, and will post 'em soon.

I've got a good little start on the Stug.  Just some work on the running gear, but still, progress!  In fact, I think I'll go kill an hour or so down on the bench right now.

Here is the painting I was refering to...

And the caption:

Escape to the Elbe, Berlin, 3rd May 1945 by David Pentland.

Following Hitlers death, the decision was taken by the officers and men of Sturmartillerie Brigade 249 to break out of the doomed capital. Shortly before midnight on the 3rd, what remained of the unit fought to the edge of the city at Spandau. By this time the brigade had been split into two elements, the first under Hauptmann Herbert Jaschke successfully punched their way out to the west. The second group was not so lucky, and its survivors fell into Soviet captivity.

Hey SMJ, sorry I havent replied sooner to this thread. I know I said something russian, but I have a question. I am in the process of building a JSU-122, with berlin markings so I know its 'urban-armor' but the thing is on may 1st I was already into building the tank. I think around that time I had pretty much completed construction of it. By now it has a base coat of russian green, but Im wondering if it was too far along at the start to enter it into the GB? If it is, I just bought a dragon panther G late smart kit today that I think I could do as an urban build, if the JSU doesnt qualify. Either way I think ill be doing just a stand alone tank, because im not sure of a dio now. Although I can always add the tank into the dio later. So can the JSU make it, or should I go ahead with the panther?
