Frank, that looks incredible!

Figured I'd bump this to keep it going.  I'll extend the end date - no sense just ending it when the F4U is such a popular bird.

A little bit of progress on my Korean lamb! Got the flaps scribed off now. Will be drooping the elevators too later. The port wing flap seperation lines between the top and bottom didn't line up, didn't discover this until I had already made the first saw cut through the outboard one!! They are close enough that the mismatch can be hidden, so just annoying is all lol. In th epic you can see the starboard inboard got bitten, but nothing super glue can't hide luckily.

Mike I hope things work out in the paint department on that Corsair of yours.

Richie I had a blast on Saturday and it was great to meet you face to face, if you ever feel like coming along to an IPMS meeting give me a call or check out the website.

Progress on my Corsair has been in the form of figuring out where the heck I got up to before I shelved the project. Cockpit is pretty much done with just some detail painting remaining and I managed to paint the wheel wells and gear doors last night.

Once the pit is assembled I'll post some pics, but in the mean time here is a photo I found on the web of the bird I'm doing.

Soo-poyb, Frank! Realistic, convincing, beautiful! I gnash my teeth with frustration at my own meagre efforts... Blush [:I]

Richie -- thanks for the tip, my friend, I tracked down Micro-Surface on the web and they advised me of the polishing kit to buy for hobby purposes. I might as well use this nobbly little Corsair of mine as a test piece for cutting back the multiple coats of Micro Gloss I brushed on, and we'll see what we shall see!

Cheers,

Mike

Gents if you happen to wind your way over to Hyperscale and check out the video they have posted of Melbourne Model Expo 2009 After Hours, you will see two Finescalers hard at work judging the Sci-Fi category.  I am the ugly mug on the right and Richie (simpilot34) is on the left.

Btw that was a bloody hard category to judge let me tell you.  How do you score a Gundam for realism????

Frank, again, great job!

Guys, don't worry about the end date, just keep on building.  I've had a lot of work realted issues going on the last few months and haven't had time to model much.  I've still got a half-assembled B-17 on my workbench that could really use some attention.  I'm hoping it gets finished by the end of the year, even though most of the hard stuff is finished.

Thanks Darren!

For the wheel wells and covers, I painted mine white as the black and white photo I have of the bird looks like white is the bottom color.  In this photo, the front covers look much lighter than the intermediate blue vertical tail, and these aircraft were upgraded at some point as they have the taller tailwheel usually associated with later versions.  They also wore a three tone paint scheme indicating the upgrade at some point.  Hope that helps! Thumbs Up [tup]

Frank that's great looking work on the Night Fighter she's looking awesome.

Quick question for you though, what color are you planning on painting the wheel wells and wheel well covers?  I ask as I'm doing a night fighter and cannot decide on black or ZC green.

Cheers

Harv- Yes, I did scratch the inside of the cowl flaps to busy that area up a bit.  Some styrene cut to shape and some wire did the trick nicely. Big Smile [:D]

Coming along Richie!  The FAA bird is still waiting for the paintshop, but the night fighter is coming along well although slowly.  Spent some time today painting lenses, installing the flaps, cowl, etc.  I also installed other fiddly bits like the pitot tube and exhausts.  Here's how she looks! Big Smile [:D]

Hi Richie,

An acrylic restoration kit? That sounds the go - I used an acrylic clearcoat on top of the enamels. I'll Google the brand and see what I can find,

Thanks!
