Hartmann -- Tremendous work on a difficult kit! Bravo!
Well, guys, there's no way in the world I'll have time to devote to finishing the Tamiya -1D, even assuming I went with OOB markings. The FAS-219 markings will be commercially available in a couple of months, so I'll hang on for them and finish this kit as planned.
Instead, with a week to go, I'd like to start something new. (Is that okay, Gig? I know it's late in the day, but I can field a new project!) I say new, this old Hasegawa 1:72 -1D has been in my stash for at least ten years. It somehow became detached from its storage carton and has been lying around. Lately it's been whispering build me! So I've given in. Assuming it's okay to field this one for the GB, it'll be quick and dirty, straight OOB and I'll finish her in some old Superscales (the kit decals have yellowed badly and were never all that great by modern standards).

She's the early kit, raised panel lines and all. I considered rescribing them but, hey, this is supposed to be quick! There aren't many, and they don't show up in photos of the real thing against midnight blue very much. Here's the parts:

The markings I'll use are Superscale 72-511, a sheet I took a subject from many years ago, I think it might have been for another example of the same kit. My subject will be VMF-511, USS Block Island, July 1945.

I assembled and painted the cockpit last night, and have done prep painting on the engine and other subassemblies. Does anyone know if the landing gear and wheels for such a squadron should be gloss white or natural metal in mid-'45?
Hope it's okay to launch this one so late!
Best wishes, all,
Mike/TB379
