Mark - my pleasure. Glad to help you out in that regard. Of note too is the national insignea, has the red outline. That dated the pic to early '43.

I will throw out something that I have found out about early Corsairs. Some -1A's were delivered in blue gray/light gray. During field re-paint to tri-color  scheme, the original paint was not stripped off. The maintnece personel often (likely all did) just painted the upper dark sea blue over the original blue gray. Instead of painting intermediate blue over the blue gray, it was often just left until the aircraft was sent to the rear areas for major maintenance and was properly re-painted there.

I have plans to paint a kit like this, and i am ready for the barrage of "it ain't right" comments too

I have over a dozen Corsairs in my stash, I'd love to come aboard. Off the top of my head:

OK guys, here we go-

Mark, looking at the pic (perfect btw) it show several things that ALL instructions don't. first, look at the dark blue demarcation line of the tri-color. It flows straight across the length of the fuselage. It does not bend and extend downwards like the technical orders show. Instructions tell you to follow the tech order, but in most cases that is not how they were painted.

Next was that fighters (not on an attack mission) did not or rarely carry drop tanks. It looks like they are being scrambled by the postures of the pilots, not leisurely walking out to their planes. Notice flaps up (I always put mine down - just for the look screw accuracy) cowl flaps open and controls mostly neutral (rudder exception). That was due to a control lock in the cockpit that locked the stick in the neutral position. It is standard procedure to do that after shutting down on most every aircraft.

As for the dio Mark - sounds great and I can't wait to see it!

Hi Chris ,

Here are a few more of the -5. BTW, the planes at the Lone Star Flight Museum are all working, flying aircraft! While I was out there taking pics their B-17G took off, flew around the field a few times and then landed and taxied right up to where we were standing! Nothing like the smell and the tink-tink sound of 4 hot radials cooling down!

 Navy, I have a 1/32 Trump P38 with the 5" rockets and 500lb bombs. I would be willing to trad for something in 1/32. If interested let me know

Finally got a chance to do some typing.(some comments)

1.James your 1/72nd X15 very very cool (I love the X15)

2.Re the guy with the 98% finished kit...Let him finish BUT he can only work on it if he's drunk 12 VBs (a great beer from Australia this should equalize things)

3. This is my plan  complete (A) RNZAF P40,(B)Build 1/72nd Fokker triplane to put with my Richthofen Bust,(C)F86 as Edwin 'Buzz' Aldrins mount  (D)Corsair... plus various figures I'm a figure painter after all

I'm working on the theory of a steep learning curve as the P40 will ber my first aircraft in 20+ years have done figures and 1 X15 I figure I can stagger the builds

God I need help...
