Hey, Dave!  Nice work on the Cornell - is that a forerunner or successor to the DeH Chipmunk?  It sure looks similar.....hard to grasp that this group is a year old now - has anyone heard from Poppie lately?  Poppie, youlurking about?

Thanks Brian!! :)  I believe it's the fore runner to the Chipmunk - this is more a WW II trainer (at least that's what my research states) - it's the markings that are on the one in the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum out in Hamilton Ontario :)

Took me a while but I finally had something to post here :D

 Cheers,

Thought I would bring this thread / group build back - I've been missing a lot lately but have gotten back into the swing of things over the last few months.  A new girlfriend has, actually, allowed me to focus on some building in my spare time !! :D

Here's the 1/72 Special Hobby PT-26 Cornell done up in the CWHM guise:

Decals are by CanMilAir.
The kit is pretty easy but the canopy gave me a hard time due to the fact that it's vacform (which I suck at currently) - this was my very first "short/limited" run kit and it turned out "ok" but I've learned some valuable lessons with this one on how to build so I look forward to putting those to use on my next kit. I'm currently working on the MPM Hudson 1/72 MK I/III.  I've been reading and note that there are some "issues" with the shape of the cowlings and such but pffffft.. I'm not a purist by any stretch :)

Cheers,
Dave

BGuy, that was one nasty kit you took on. Your results are great!

You completed a model - good or bad, you accomplished what you set out to do. Great things come from those who try. Remember, if you think you can, or think you can't - you're right!

Take this plastic and model it!

Your too hard on yourself Bguy.  That's not an easy kit from what I've been told and it looks like a pretty decent build.  Well done Thumbs Up [tup]

An update on the final status of my 'toot'--it's done, but I'm hardly proud of my build.  At one point after I applied Future I realized the top of the wings were *red* and should really be *white*--oops.  Anyway, here are some pics of what NOT to do:

One or two of the decals are screwed up--I'll let you have the fun of figuring out which--but it's done.  As per an earlier thread I enjoyed being part of, I guess I'm an "inconsistent-intermediate" level modeler.

Thanks for the opportunity to be part of the GB, though.

Well, the snow is finally here to stay and the house is about ready to endure another northern winter. Time to build something! So how is everyone doing? I've been following what's happening here but over the summer/fall I havn't had much time for building, but winter is my build time. Now, where did I put that Mosquito?Dinner [dinner]

My 1/72 Snowbirds Tutor is coming along--decals being applied this week, and should be finished fairly soon.  I'll send some pics then.

I'm not dead yetSmile [:)]  Work on the Spitfire has droped to a crawl due to work, health issues and familliy stuff if everything works out I should be getting some bench time rather soon. Also there is a small change to my build.  Originaly I was planning to do a Mk Vb of 401 sqn used during the Dieppe raid however doing some more research I discovered 401 was using Mk IXc's during that period so my build will be of a 402 sqn aircraft from the same period.

Brian Verry nice work on the Arrow it looks great.

Not sure when I can get to my Lancaster.  The earliest I'll start will be January.  Maybe I can find something else in the stash to get the ball rolling.

As a recap, I have been down but not out.  My P-40 is languishing away on the corner of my bench.  When I get the primer on I will feel better about it.

Have not been building for this GB but keeping up to date,  I can count 11 airplanes in my work area in various stages of construction. I vowed to finish at least half  Whistling [:-^] of them before starting another.

Thanks for the kind words, Dave!  It is a big bird, close in size to the F-89D Scorpion and a bit larger than the F-100D Super Sabre.  I can't compare it to the more modern jets, as I haven't really gotten interested enough in them to build any Whistling [:-^]

Ah, the Lanc - a true classic!  I just managed to nick a Revell 1:32 Beaufighter on EvilBay for $3.99, no shipping as it was close by so I picked it up.....just need to find some a.m. cockpit goodies or do some scratchbuilding on her....looks like it will be a fun build, also!

Brian,  Wow!!  That came out really nice Brian and will be a nice addition to your collection.  I saw a 1/72 scale Arrow at the IPMS Vancouver show last weekend and to see one sitting next to a F-18 was a real eye opener as to the size of these things.  I really need to add one of these to the stash.

Frangkly, I really don't have any information for you, I stick mostly to WWII stuff.  I bet that if you post the same question in the Aircraft and Research sections that you'll get a much better response.

As for me, I opened up the Lancaster box and fondeled the styrene for awhile but it most likely won't get started until the new year.  I still have three builds on the workbench that I want to finish before I start the Lancaster.

Chester, good to see you.  Hope all is going well at school (man I'm glad those days are over)

Ask and ye shall receive, Dave!  Here are the latest and probably final updates on the CF-105 Arrow:

This was quite a fun build overall, and the kit went together almost as well as some much more expensive ones!  I stil need to attach the landing gear covers and the nose probe, and she is done.  Hopefully it is a fitting tribute to an aircraft that "should  have been"!

Just looked at my previous posts and realize I double posted instead of just editing.  Must have been a late night.

Chester, Biology was one of my favorite subjects but I didn't care much for the University style course.  There was something like 1400 students (University of Manitoba) taking the first year course and the Prof's  manage it by taping their lectures.  Yuck [yuck]  The up side was you could always catch the next viewing if you missed or had to skip a class.  Anyway, that was something like 20 years ago so I'm (almost) over it now! I'm at Memorial University of Newfoundland in St. John's. I'm just starting a bachelors of science in biology degree.

Hi everyone,
I got my mosquito finished at the end of August but I forgot to take pictures if it. I've just moved away from home for university and I didn't bring it with me.
I'll post some when I'm home for christmas.

BGuy, Poppie, the GB host, has not been around much in the past few months but I believe both builds would be acceptable and let me be the first to welcome you to the GB.  I think the general intent was anything pre armed forces amalgamation (Feb 1, 1968).  In other words if it has RCAF on it instead of CAF you're good to go.

As for the "what if" Arrow... how bout a diorama with a Russian Bear interception Wink [;)]
