Yo Poppie FYI,

Just reporting in to let you know I'm still in on the GB but I swore (before I ever joined) that I would finish the kits on my bench before I started anything new. I've modified this decree a little but I still have to at least finish my MIG before I get onto my 104...or anyhing else new!

Cheers

Hello Brent. Sorry it's taken so long to get back to you but now that winter has finaly gone, it's just been very busy around here. And now I get even busier as I play on two softball teams. I actually live very close to where you were by the airport. I am right on top of Bonnet Hill on Sommerville Rd and I play ball at the airport ball park, and I work for Canfor at thier Isle Pierre mill. Pretty scarey working in the mills now I tell ya. Our's is the last mill in the entire region to still run 3 shifts, and Rustad will be cutting down to only run 1 shift in 2-3 weeks. I'm pretty fortunate as I have been working the weekend shift since we started doing that, but after 9 yrs. of only working 3 12hr shifts a week I'm not sure if I can handle going back to 5 8hr shifts again, lol. Have to just play it out and see what happens I suppose.

Well, spare time is at a premium around here now so I better get something done on this kit while I still have a few minutes. Now, where did I put that sanding stick this time?

Bullet, you ever get down this way you better be givin me a call! Big Smile [:D]

Actually mine is more likely to look at the box of freshly painted parts and think, these would look much nicer down on the carpet.

Well I have been getting some work done on the Boston Smile [:)] I painted the interior and have the fuselage all together and some assembly done on the wings. There is a lot to do on this one and it is kind of a theraputic build for me also.

I have been in a modeling funk for the last bit, so I pulled out a couple of kits and whipped them off with nothing done to them other than adding paint. I did a basic job on the interior - a light drybrushing mostly - and it seemed to have me feeling better about the hobby. So I have continued that with this build also. I did a simple job on the interior but will be doing a finer job outside for sure. I'll only be getting so far ntil the MDC conversion arrives to make this a true Canadian Boston. That will take a couple of weeks to get here yet.

On another note with this kit (Italeri A-20B 1/48) is that it will be on display after it's completion at the Langley Herritage Museum of flight. My club has been asked to have a display for them for teh anniversary and I agreed to take a few of my kits down for the occasion. Now, this museum has a reputation - once a canadian model comes in, they don't want to give it back! They try to get you to donate it, sometimes it's hard to get it back if it's one they really want to have Evil [}:)] I know I will be hounded to leave this one there and likely will. That's why it has a basic interior. No need to go all out. Hey, it's not all bad - they give a charitable tax recipt for a substantial amount normallyWink [;)]

I'll post a few pics soon as I can.

Man.. days turn into weeks and weeks into months etc. - I've been way too busy Sad [:(] so there's been very little building going on at my place.

That said, with an upcoming IPMS meeting this Tuesday I think I should "crank it up a notch" and have something ready for the meeting.

Jeff, with respect to that Lanc, it's long gone from the pedestal near the lake - but it is being restored (non-flying of course) by the folks at the Toronto Aerospace Museum. It's a 1944 Mk X version that was built locally in Malton by Victory Aircraft Ltd.

I hope to either start painting or finish painting (or both) the Hurricane MK IIc and/or the Beech C-45F this weekend.

Cheers,
Dave

Ok, then put me down for the CH-118 using the 1/72 Italeri UH-1D kit with some Belcher Bits decals. I'm waiting on Squadron for several of the kits but I have a couple of the UH-1D kits already in the stash so it seems like a good place to start.

I got started tonight painting the fuselage and various external parts. I didn't get off to a good start, everything is now soaking in a vat of Superclean to strip the paint so I can try again. Black Eye [B)]

It looks like you've loosened up the guidelines a bit, initially my interests didn't qualify since they are after the merger, but now maybe they do.

I have several Canadian rescue helicopter projects I could use if they qualify, all in the Yellow and Red scheme that I believe was adopted in the late 70's.

CH-113 Labrador

CH-118 Iroquois

CH-135 Twin Huey

CH-146 Griffon

CH-149 Comorant

So would any of these be acceptable?

Hey guys

I just wanted to show you guys my RCAF CF-188 done in the 2006 demo jet livery. I don't know a lot of history on aircraft 188711 and I'm not sure how to find out. I just really liked the design is why I choose it. I will do this model again but next time I will choose something from the 410 squadron in Cold Lake Ab. I was just putting the finishing touches on mine when this GB started so I'm linking to a thread in aircraft rather than posting my pics in this thread. I hope you guys like it!

 Hey Jeff,

Don't forget, for the Chipmunk (if you have the old Airfix 1/72 one) that the Canadian canopy is different than the Brit canopy. Aeroclub makes a vacform Canadian canopy that can be used with the Airfix kit which suits it nicely Smile [:)]

Hey guys,

Man.. still swamped with work and photography stuff - haven't had squat time to myself to build or paint :(

That said, I know some folks here may be looking at building or trying to build a DH 82c Tiger Moth.

Pavla has it in 1/72 and Revell/Matchbox has it in 1/32 - I believe that Aeroclub have a 1/48 version as well.

That said, there was a review posted on the Modelling Madness website of the kit and how, if you use the Airfix kit (cheap and likely easy to find) you could get, to paraphrase the old commercial "two, two, two planes in one!" Big Smile [:D]

Hey Brent,

Why do they call them 'servers' when all they seem to do sometimes act like 'witholders'?  Glad to hear you got that problem sorted out.  It's frustrating as heck when something like that happens.  I have the same thing going on. I have a site that every time I try to get onto I get a 'runtime error' for some kind of Java script on their server. My browser won't accept their script so I had to download Mozilla's 'Firefox' and set it up. I can get on the site fine now, but I now have three browsers to choose from when I boot up????

Well, it's back into the hospital for the next 'hand-job' tomorrow.  Seems like I just got the stitches out from the last surgery---wait a minute--------- it was 'yesterday'!!!  Oh well, eventually I should be able to play the piano.  Only one more operation to go, and I won't be having it until next year as it's a big one and I'll be laid up for quite some time so, I'll have a bit of a break once this one here is over with.  I'm going to change my  name to 'the glove' - I just had this mental image of Michael Jackson flash through my mind.  That's what I need for this hand......a sequined white glove instead of these darned roll-up bandages.

Wish me luck guys, and I may not be doing much typing other than the 'hunt and peck' stuff with my 'other' hand until I get the wraps off. My work on my Spit is Sputtering.

We definatley should hook up, I still have family in CLoverdale.

Well, it sure has gotten quiet around these parts EH?

I found out tonight why I can't get onto the RCAF site with my windows explorer. THere is a firewall somewhere besides my PC that doesn't like my puter. So I am using a proxi server and now get on fine. Models should be here any day..........it's like a-mas in Cali!!!!....except for one small detail.............

HA!! Small world. We did have some fierce rivalry between our 2 sds didn't we? Heck, we might have even met or seen each other before...you were in at the same time as me. I joined the Army in 89.

You flew CAF? If so, did you run into, or happen to know Capt. Mike French? He was in my cadet Sqd and went on to fly 18's out of Cold Lake. For the last 4 years now he has been with the Snowbirds. He flew the #7 bird for 3 years and now is on the #12 as a Standards pilot. Seing and talkins with him again at an Abotsford Air Show back in ...umm...?2003? perhaps, he flew the 18 in for the show and when I went back to Saskatchewan, I fullfilled my life's dream of becoming a pilot with my private license. Unfortunatley I have had to put it on hold for a few years....stuff to do on house!! I soloed on Dec 7th 04 and So far I sit with just over 100 hours on a 172. Drew, well and truly done, Old Chap. That's fantastic.  How would you feel about passing a bit of that back along the line?  They may not let you fly because of a medical, but with those boards, you could sure help steer a lot of great kids along a pretty bumpy road.

At the very least, how would you feel about joining forces with Dave, in tandem or singular, and go out to some of the squadrons (and army units) and show the kids just what can be done with a model. Like I said to Dave, there's a big difference between 'before' and 'after' and it takes seeing a couple of 'after' kits and especially a couple being worked on to inspire these kids to say "Yeah", I could do that.  I won't be ready for your neck of the woods until 2009 but I would be really honoured if I could put you fellas down on my 'volunteer display teams' list, right up there at the top.

I'd also appreciate any ideas of what to include in a demonstration. As you know, having someone come onto an armed forces base to 'discuss and show' things military has to have approval. I'd have to set out a kind of agenda for a CO so he/she would know how much time to allow in an evening, or to advertise a showing and display at the armoury on, say, a Sunday morning.  It would only take once a year for about 2 hours to help get some kids started, and maybe you'd find yourself with a dedicated 'class' of student modelers that would enjoy 'sitting at the masters feet'.  Please give it some serious thought. I'll be be looking for your suggestions and later on, I'll be back to you with the logistics of how we can go about setting these things up.

I'm hoping to recruit some guys from IPMS to volunteer to do some 'dog-and-pony-work here in Hamilton.  We've got 150 - Hamilto Tiger Squadron, 427 -Black Knight Squadron and , why is my mind drawing a blank.  Been a long(er) day.

I think a lot of you fellas would really enjoy doing some display work, then putting in 4 - 6 Sunday Mornings (I've looked for you in Mass Angel [angel] and your not there so there must be a couple of hours available - lets see - 3 hours x 6 Sunday mornings = 18 hours divided by the formative years (psychologists say 12 to 25) is only 0.72 hours worth of contact to bring a kid into the fold of modeling!!!  Can I make you volunteer number 3 from the RCAF Group Build 2008.  My gosh, but there is a lot of good stuff coming out of this build.  By the way, how are your planes coming.  Any pics of work-in-progress we can 'tear apart.

Fair warning all - I hope we don't just give each other a fistful of 'attaboys'  in this build , nor will we be too bleary eyed and proud to accept well meaning advice (even if we don't agree - tell the poor son-of-a-gun-why.

Jeez, I'm proud to be a part of this forum and this build in particular.
