Still a bit of touch up painting needed, but overall, I think it came out well.... I still need to make the FOD covers, attach the undercarriage, hit her with Future and decals.....

Dave,

Thanks a million for that video!!!!  I guess I am just a Canuck at heart when it comes to this a/c and the travesty caused by our government's desire to get the F-101 into Canadian service.  I have a search for the book on eBay as well as Half.com and Amazon.  Just finishedpainting the red areas, assoon as I can handle it safely, I'll get more prog pics of her.  I am building #203.

Brian, the book is called Arrow First Flight.  It was published on the 45 year anniversary and seams to be out of production.  I'll get the full details for you when I get home from work.  There is one avaialbe on ebay that ends today with no bids on it.  I am sure there are other books on the Arrow but this one has some really nice large B&W photos.

Also, have you seen this  http://ca.video.yahoo.com/watch/210755/1234199

The web site I was talking about earlier is www.avroarrow.org  lots of great info on there too.

Funny you should mention the book Brent because I just picked one up at a used book store this week.  It has some great photos of the landing gear and the gear bays definitely look white.  The gear though looks like it is painted grey though they are all black and white photos so it is hard to say for sure.  Let me know if you need any detail photos Brian and I'll send you what I can.

There is also a great web site with lots of photos.  I'm sure you've probably found it but I'll try to dig it up for you just in case.

Looks whitw to me. Being a Canuck moved south, I have also built this model before, and it is a biggin!! Here is a link to a page that will give you the info and phone number for a Canadian Company called Arrow Graphics. Nothing but Canadian decals for all sorts of planes. Specializinbg in the Arrow. They would be able to give you a definate answer, also, I do hear from my friends up there that there was a book published with pics and all about the Arrow.

Thats a fine model, Brian. I've been following your build and did a trivia question over on that thread regarding the model tests of the Arrow on Nikes into Lake Ontario. It certainly brings to mind not only TSR2, and what about that in 1/48?, but also the XF-90.

I built my Lodestar in no small part because of a lot of study I've done about the Pine Tree Line, and USAF bases in Canada and Greenland, esp. at Thule.

Dave, the Lodestar is the 1/72 "Model 14 in Norwegian Service" by Special Hobby. I picked the cheat line from a BOAC decal set I have. This kit is pretty challenging.

My previous Canadian subjects are Montreal Locomotive Works, as RR is my favorite hobby.

Thanks, Drew!  I got the vertical stabilizer installed and a coat of gloss white on her;  as I anticipated, the paint showed a couple of minor flaws to fix, but overall, coming together nicely!

Thanks a million, Dave!  I sort of guessed that white/silver would be the scheme, based on a couple of pics I have seen of the CF-100.  Thanks for the link and especially for the kind words! Yes, the model is a big one, too - just over 18" from tip to tail!  SWMBO keeps eyeballing it......Laugh [(-D]

That's looking really nice Brian Thumbs Up [tup]  It is a big aircraft for a fighter.  As for the colour of the gear bays I have no defiinitive photos but from what I've seen inside of the gear doors look white, the landing gear itself looks silver.  I have yet to see a good photo of the gear bays so I don't have any idea but if the gear doors are white it's likely the gear bays are white too.  Here is a lik to an Arrow someone else did for another Canadian GB.  He painted the gear, doors and bays all white except for a few touches of silver.  Scroll to the bottom of the page for the finished pics.

Bondo, that's a nice looking Loadstar. Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]  Which kit is it?  Got a do one of the hudson's one of these days.

Well, here is the next update on the CF-105 build:

Wings on, fit was near perfect!

Air intakes and exhaust cones on!

This beast is over 18" long!

A question for any Arrow enthusiasts - are the wheel wells aircraft grey, flat white or zinc chromate green?  I haven't been able to locate a color pic of that area....

Comments and constructive criticism are always welcome!

This sounds like what I need to do here. My wife happened to come down here while I was looking at the thread, and she was reading your idea. She says to me, why don't you do that instead of using the window idea I was tossing around.

So, thanks for the idea.......maybe I can get you to talk to her when I go to buy the Harley I want.....Make a Toast [#toast]

Hi Brent, might have a solution for your spray booth venting problem. When I built my booth I cut a hole through the wall (ya, I own this castle, hee hee) right behind the booth and then I installed a dryer vent kit with a louvered cap on the outside. I also installed a heavy carbon screen from a kitchen range hood right at the booth so as to absorb any paint (don't wanna scar the siding) and prevent anything from coming back in. And when "The Boss" eventually noticed the 2nd dryer vent on the outside wall I just casually muttered Whistling [:-^] that it must have been there from the previous owners Whistling [:-^] So far it's been working very well.

Drew,

Thanksa for the kind words, this resin kit comes from up your way (Canada) and is, IMHO, worth every penny that I paid for it.  I think the CF-105 could/would have been the first air superiority fighter of the era, had not international politics reared it's ugly head.  At any rate, more progress pics will be coming soon!

Here is my first prog pics of my Hobby Craft 1:48 CF-105 Avro Arrow. As the kit cockpit is totally devoid of detail, I am using the North Star a.m. resin fron office and I am very impressed, to say the least.  I am used to Black Box, Cutting Edge, etc. resin kits;  North Star is in a class by itself, I only wish that they had more offerings!  Here are a few pics of the pit:

I've been workling on the Boston from time to time. It's getting there. Almost time for painting but not quite. I think this is the most filler I have ever used on a model. And I have built a few of the old monogram jets too.

As soon as I get around to it, I'll take a couple of pics.

I too am still in this build. I recieved both models a while ago, but for me durring the summer and fall months my build time reduces 10 fold. Lots of other thing to be done, and of course hunting season as well. My biggest obstical right now is I am trying to figure out how I am going to vent my home built spray both. I have tried the going out through the dryer vent but too much lint comes back down. I may have to use the small window and replace it with something that I can vent out without making the cold air come in.

Hopefully it will work it's way out as I still have a couple of models to finish here before the Canuck builds start.
