Jacob, I wouldn't recommend making the end date infinite.  Take a look through the GB forums at all the GB's with no end date and you'll see one thing in common.  Most if not all are dead or are in the process of dying a slow death.

Without a deadline there is no motivation to actually complete builds.

I keep an eye on this GB as I may join later once I work through some other builds.

Building Now:

1/48 Academy Bf-109G6 - 100%

1/48 Tamiya F4U-1A - 5%

Upcoming:

1/48 Revell F-14D

I agree with arki30. I think we should stick to our deadline. Deadlines bring out the best in people otherwise we will tend to laze off to other projects.

I just want to ask a technical question. Does the FW190-D's rear wheel steer just like the american planes?

The 190's rear wheel castored just the wheel on a shopping cart.

Thanks for the info. the reason I asked this is. I cut the short shaft in the tailwheel and inserted a brass wire to it. Now it can, in your word "castored" before I realized that I was not sure about wheel being able to turn.

Well, I finally got some work done on this bird over the weekend.  Eduards' puts a lot of detail into this thing, but their engineering needs some work.  If you attach all the parts where eduards says they go, the kit won't go together.  It becomes a game of trial and error of trying to fit parts in and what order they have to go together.

The camera battery should be charged by tonight, so I should be able to get some pictures up by then.

Gratuitous bump to get this back on the front page...

I have some initial work done on my Revell 190, unfortunately my airbrush is broken right now which is slowing me down seriously.  Parts should arrive tomorrow to fix it.  I should have some photos up this weekend.

I'll be doing "Red 1" of 5./JG 300 piloted Klaus Bretschneider.

I'll add some progress pics later. this is to bring you up to spped on what I'm doing. Using the ruttman resin D-11 coversion set to make an accurate 1/32 scale fw190D-11 from the hasegawa D-9. I also have an interior and exterior PE set and resin exhaust mainfolds (not pictured0 The one I have chosen is "red 4" from JV 44 jet defence flight. This D-11 has a good history and colorfull marking, this should be an impressive looking 1/32 D-11 IF I can get it done.

Finally, proof that I have been working on this kit Laugh [(-D]

Kit has great detail, but terrible fit.  I have styrene strip shims all over the place.

This is a stupid question but I don't really know. How do I send photos with my post to this GB? Thanks!

Easiest way is to get yourself a free photobucket account (www.photobucket.com).  Upload your pictures from your PC to photobucket and then copy the link from photobucket into your post.

When you upload your picture to photobucket, you'll see 4 or 5 tag options underneath it - click on the last one and it will say "copied".  Then go to your post and paste it in.  That's it, you should have pictures in no time.

Stan- Looks like a great project, I'll be following with interest.

Fred- Holy cow!  That's some great work, looks awesome!

I was hoping to get some painting done last weekend but with the temps at 100+ degrees the garage was just too hot, maybe this weekend.

Thanks, guys Thumbs Up [tup]

Phoenix, that is the PE that's included in the set.  It's only one small sprue, but it's enough to dress up the interior and add some detail to the landing gear.

I think I've got it now! Here are a couple of photos of my FW build. I'm doing some preliminary painting and some final inspection before I proceed to final painting

ok, after you've uploaded your picture to photobucket, you'll see 4 tag links underneath the picture.  there's "email & IM", "direct link", "HTML code" and "IMG code".  Left click on "IMG code" and it will highlight and say "copied".

Then come over to your FSM post and hit either "CTRL V" or right click and select "paste".  The image code will then be pasted into your thread.  Then you can do a "preview" and your picture will show up in your thread in place of the code.

Hi SC -- the Tamiya Dora-9 wing has an interesting story behind it, I heard it here a couple of years back. The kit builds sweet but isn't truly accurate: everything's the right shape and size, but it doesn't relate to reality. Apparently they measured up an example in a museum (in Florida if memory serves) but that beast had been reconstructed with the wing of the rare D-13, which changed the relationship of the structures around the wheelwells and the visible rear parts of the engine, as well as the guns (I'm dredging my memory here). So while it's a beauty of a kit, purists say it's a funny-looking D-9! Eagle Parts have correction sets for a modest price, IIRC.

With the extended finish date, I might be able to contribute -- we'll see how things look a few months from now.

Cheers,

Mike/TB379

Thats some cool info there T-bolt. I am not one to pull out the old mesuring stick when building or even match parts up to line drawings but it is always nice to know all of the facts about a kit when you are building it. i have heard this story told before about other kits. Using restored planes as a reference has definetly caused many kits to have inacuracies. here is one pic that blew my mind when i saw it. then another forum member filled me in and it turns oout there was a whole story that went with the plane as to why it had the incorrect canopy.

Fred,

That's a great looking build so far.  I haven't even started on my Tamiya F-8 yet Sad [:(].  Maybe this weekend while watching some football.

I may join this build, i have a captured Fw190d to make in 1:48th scale for the Captured types collection so i may enter that. It will be a while off though before i can build it.

I also have the very tempting project of building the two seat Fw190 as preserved at the RAF Museum Hendon, does anyone know of a conversion kit to make this?

Well, here she is, ready to go into paint

I used the "closed position" canopy as a mask for the cockpit.  It'll allow me to paint all the part that will be blocked by the open canopy as well as completely seal the office.  It' attached with thinned white glue, so it'll come off with little effort.

and the bottom, where I'm going to try preshading for the first time.  I decided to use a permanent marker to mark the panel lines.  If I get it to work correctly, I'll do it on the rest of the plane , as well.

Bad choice to use permanent marker.  Do a search in the forums for panel lines and sharpie and you'll see what I mean.

Definetly a big no no! There is no paint made that will cover over a marker pen. The paint will wick away from the marker. Try and remove it though I am not sure what to use to remove it with.
