Fw190 GB

OKI surrender.  I threw the piece of crap in the trash can.  Sometime in the near futureI will be purchasing a new 48th 190 that I will build.

 The reason I threw it out was that I sanded completely through the lower cowl trying to erase a nasty seam.   JOHN

many a dragon kit has seen the trash can I can tell you that. my Me262 is circling the bowl as we speek.

Sorry to hear that John. Still plenty of time left go grab another 190 and start agian. Preferably not a Dragon kit. I have the 1/48 A-8 in my stash. I took it out and test fit the main parts. What a peice of junk. The way the parts are broken down makes it almost impossible to build a nice clean model. They are the strangest kit i have ever seen produced. I have seen kits with great detail and great fit like Tamiya and Hasegawa. I have seen kits with decent fit and ok detail like any of the old Revell Monogram or Airfix kits. Dragon is in a league of thier own. Alot of there kits have good detail but almost every one of them is a complete nightmare to build!

Dragon kits are known for their stunning detail, and their amazing inability to fit together.

I built their 262 a few years back, but having built the Tamiya kit, I would always buy Tamiya in future.

Tried their 190D, now it lives in the cupboard as a paint hack.

Slight change of plan for me, I was going through the cupboard last night and found the remains of a couple of Revell 1/72 A-8 kits which had provided parts for other builds. Having trawled through my spares bins, and decal bank, I have enough spares and AM to build an A-8.

I'll be using an Aeromaster decal set for a late war machine.

Well boys i had a soild 8 hours at the old bench today. This along with alot of crap going right means I mad some excellent progress (for me at least). The Resin fuselage did not get used. NOTHING would work with it. I have found it easier to use the D-9 plastic fuselage and mak all the changes and mods myself. Sh now sits with all the majot componets on and ,ost of the fuselage sanding is done. The wings seams/joints need done and I can paint.

here we see I cut off the upper insterment panel and hood. this will be replaced with a nice resin piece.

 I got the cooling gills and radiator on. I added gill actuators.

here's how she sits right now. gun hood on, wings/tail on. lower shell ejectors in places and modified center support. outboard gun buldges still missing from upper wings at this point. Also you can see I got the IP hood on and painted and detailed as well.

Tomorrow's projects will be filling all the pit marks in the prop and spinner hub and get those assembled. Glue on the gun buldges, sand and fill wing seams and prep for paint.  

Wow Stan you made some great progress there. With all of the aftermarket goodies you added I thought it would take you quite some time to get it together but you seem to be on cruise control! Keep up the great work!

I just picked up the R.V. Resin Fw 190 V18/U1 (C-0) in 1/48 for $60.00 bucks. The detail on the kit is pretty good but dry fiting the wing to fuselage joint looks like a bit of time with the sanding disc will be in order. Other than that it looks like a sweet kit. I don't when I will get around to building it but i always wanted to model this kit in 1/48. it looks kind of like a Frankenstein plane with the pipes hanging out over the wings and the huge cooler under the cockpit.

Haven't built one yet, but it looks very impressive.  Incredible surface detail, even finely done rivets in 1/72!  I'll be doing it after my A-8 is finished up.

Hey guys, just popped in to see how all the builds are going and you lot rule. Another one of my fav Lufty subjects. A question for some of the more experienced amongst you, as you seem to know about the RV resin versions. I have the RV 190 C-0 V17. Is it any good? It says for Italieri. Ive not had an awfull lot of experience with Italieri let alone doing a fairly complex conversion. The kit comes with resin fuselage, Prop hub and blades, PE fret and decals.

Any info would be seriously appreciated as, if possible, ill tag on to the GB.

Hey Guy if I remember the donor kit is suppose to be the ex Trimaster-Hasegawa-italieri 1/48 Ta 152? Both Stan and I have build the kit OOB and it is a good kit. The only problem with the kit is the wingtips are always warped. i guess that will not be a problem for you because you will not be useing the wings. As far as the RV Resin wings are The ones in my kit are clean free from pinholes and well molded. They will require some amount of time to get a good wing to fuselage fit though as there is a lot of resin there.

Making some slow but steady progress. Just have to finish up the canopy with the head rest and wire then add the wheels and covers. I could not wait to post some pics so here she is almost done!

Thank you Jacob and Mike I appreciate it. I'm in the home streach now. Just one hold up. The pilot tube is broken in two right where it steps down in size. Looks like I am going to have to piliage another kit to finish this one. Might as well be the Dragon A-8. its such a piece of junk i do not think I will ever bother trying to make something out of it. Hopefully i will have some completed pics up soon with some better lighting so you can see it a little better.

Looking VERY good, SC! What was your markings source? Yellow 11 is one of the famous ones, or am I thinking of Yellow 10 (D-13, now restored in a US museum)???

Thanks everyone! The makrings are for Unter-offizier Gunter Rey. Furstenau/Germany Jan 1 1945. This aircraft was a very early D-9  W. Nr 210xxx. Early style canopy It was delivered to the 11/JG54 just in time to take place in operation Bodenplatte. it should have had a blue tailband for the JG54 but apparently there was no time to apply the band before it went into service though they did fid time to apply his personal emblem the Cologne Cathedral. The decals are from Life Like and they are about the best decals i have ever used. They went down perfectly over a coat of Future and really settled down great. When I finish I will take some close up pics and you can see how well they conformed to every seam and rivet. I am really happy with these decals.

Hi SC -- Lifelike, now that's a range I'm not familiar with. Do you have a link? Where are they made? Can't wait to see her finished. All this activity is making me really want to join this GB. I have three mdels to work on this afternoon, let's see if I can make some headway!

Mike I found this set on eBay a while ago. Some Trumpeter kits come with then. I believe they are made  in China. Come and join the fun Mike! I have three GB I am committed to also so one more could not hurt right!

Thanks Guy! I have seen you crank out some stunning work amazingly fast too my freind! Unfortunatly the sick bug visited me Thursday and I am under the weather right now restricted to bed duty for the next couple of days. it is tough because my workbench is in my bedroom and all I can do is stare at the 190. It is 95% done but my head hurts so bad I can not concentrate on finishing it. Hopefully I will be feeling better before the weekend and finish it up so I can post some pics. Do'nt ever get old, it really sucks!
