The composition thus far (if this is the end game) is absolutely excellent in my book. Great talent here.

Hey Steve!

Thanks for the catch on the fire extinguisher and the kind words they are appreciated.  Smile [:)]

Lookin' good, Schnobs!!Thumbs Up [tup] The weathering is giving your panzer this very arid, dry feel that really makes the build feel like it's been out in the desert. Just one question, are you gonna add a wash to the machine gun barrel? I feel it needs just a slight black wash to add depth to the air holes. Keep the updates coming.Cool [8D]

PS: I'm still weathering the tracks(started on Sunday), but some of the rear engine hull was worked on.

Hey Build Buddy! Smile [:)]

Yes I plan to go back and redo the MG barrels along with a lot of additional detailing.  I am in the process of picking out stowage, chains and other little items for the overall presentation.  Wbill i ssending me a replacement resin headlight for the one I lost and I need to paint and mount the little headlights or reflectors on the front fenders. I am not sure what they are.  Are they just red refecltors I am not sure?

You are using the kit included plastic tracks aren't you?  I am really interested in how you assembled, mounted and wethered them...  I can't wait to see the post!

Those little lights on the front fenders, I believe are signal lights(possibly secondary headlights) so they would be clear like the main head-light. Thus no need for red.

As for updates, I got one up a few days ago of the PE work. As for the tracks, I'll let you know when I get one up.

Thanks Julian!

This base is my second base I built for my #3 which was a DML Pz.III and I put his little cousin on it last night for a lark but I really like how it looks.  I might use this for a backup if I cannot get the Dionasour dioram done it tiime for the show on the 19th.  I wnat o to concentrate on all the little details and maping that is necessary to bring character to the build.  I plan on making a jack block out of actual wood and PE for starters.

Edmund,

Seriously impressive work...  I'm floored and I'm jealous.

One important question, though....  this pertains to the background images more than your tank...

HOW MANY FREAKIN' BOTTLES OF PAINT TO YOU OWN???? Propeller [8-]  No wonder I can never find the color I need.... they're already at your house!!

Thank you for the compliment!  Andy you are a very humble genuinely nice guy which is rare enough on either side of the Atlantic.

I have a loonnnnggg way to go to even get close to your attention to detail and quality.  Your mapping effects are incredable.  I have about ten questions stored up as I type.  Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

LOL!  I have quite a bit of detailing left on the Pz.1 Jim so if I miss my deadline I will go with the roman road and make the Dio later. I am blessed with a very demanding job and a wonderful family so I make time for this hobby when I can.  I am hoping soon but I miss painting figures as well. I might add another figure to the vehicle.

Build Update:

Panzer 1 Build Hours:

Assembly: 16 hours

Painting & Weathering the interior: 6 Hours

Painting & Weathering the Exterior: 26 Hours

Assembling, weathering, and mounting Fruil Tracks:  10 Hours

Aggregate Build Time: 58 hours

Well everyone I had a couple days off from the workbench tied up in work and family thinking about my next steps and what I decided to do is to scale back my dinosaur diorama for now and leave the PZ.1 on this base that was orginally built for my PZ.III.  This is just a better scale and I really like the smaller tank on road.

I am going to channel that energy into super detailing the Pz.1 or mapping if you will which is a term from the Mig Jimenz F.A.Q book which I highly recommend!

I focused all my energies on the rear end tonight and performed the following detail work:

  • Cut some Blacken-it darkened copper chain down to size and mounted through towing pintle
  • Made a jack block out of balsa wood and Blacken-It PE strips
  • Painted the reflector with Tamiya Clear Red
  • Applied a couple more washes of different tones and a few oil dot filters.
  • Once last Pin Wash

Here are some shots of the back of this little guy. Enjoy!

Thanks Julian I am sold on Blacken-it if I am using Fruil tracks and to rust metal parts it is a great tool in the toolkit!

I really like this Edmund.  Well, I already liked it, now I may woo it, do you know if it is free Friday night, maybe dinner and a blitz?

The chain looks great, the jack block is cool, are those dedicated PE parts, or scrap strips you made to fit the block?  Either way, you better call the cops because I am stealing that one.

I ordered that book tonight, I should have it next week, but, nudge nudge, I would like to try some black uniform painting this weekend.

I'll call you tomorrow some time.  Keep it up, man, your skills are MAD.  Please post some overall pictures, not just her butt.

LOL! Thanks Bill and I am sorry about bailing out of the Dinosaur idea for now.  I forgot to mention when I picked up the Blacken-It I also picked up a product called Weather-it to try out which is supposed to work great applied to raw wood and plaster.  It worked like a charm on the balsa wood block.  The PE came with the kit and I made up a second block with extra Aber PE so I would have one for the next build.

Hey I plan to paint a Panzer black figure this weekend as well.  How serendipitous!  Big Smile [:D]

I am still waiting for the Bison resin headlight that Wbill sent out to me earlier this week so I can concentrate on the front of the vehicle.  I was working on some stowage and Jerry cans last night but you know I might just leave everything off except the headlight and maybe a small chain on the front as well.  I really like how stark it looks!

Talk to you later today I am sure,

Thanks Bill your support and comments are welcome as always! Smile [:)]  I really like how it turned out as well.  It was an experiment I painted up the plastic block as well but it was no contest.  The acrid climate of a desert does some freaky things to wood.  I love how cracked and grey wood can get and tried to emulate that here.

If your headlight doesn't show up today I will just use the one out of the DML PZ.1 Ausf B kit and when yours shows up put it in that box.  I want to do what RIck Lawler did on his and damage the headlight.  I want to take it a step further and include part of a shattered lense if I can.  I am going to strip some twisted pair (Cat5) for the fine copper wire and put that inside the cone to emulate filament or wiring.  It should look cool.  (Hopefully!)

I don't think I am going to put any stowage on this little guy because the presentation is in the paint job and I don't wanto to hide any of it.

Glad you like it Marc yeah that Weather-it is cool I can't wait to try it on plaster or Hydrocal walls it is supposed to make it look like old cement.  Great for rubble from what I read.

I am working on the headlights as I speak but I am tempted to leave them off and call it done.  I am at the stage where I get a little nervous where too much is too much.

Assembling, weathering, and mounting Fruil Tracks:  10 Hours

I mounted the headlight and it was just too small to add any major detailing so I just added some chippng, filters, and some oil dot fading and called it done.

My Badger 100LG Medium blew up during spraying some stowage I was thinking about using but I decided to leave the whole presentation stark and to have the paint job itself be the vocal point.  I tried to fix for a couple of hours and I finally checked out Badgers site and they have a lifetime warranty and directions on how to send it to them so I boxed it up and it's on the way Illinois!

I ordered a spare Badger 100G Fine for 58.00 as a backup.

Thanks again to everyone that stopped by during this build and offered suport and suggestions it is always appreciated and often needed to keep pushing through.  This build was simpy a bear with all the warpage but I am glad how it turned out and getting my feet wet with Fruil Tracks which are great!

Here are some last shots and I will stop bomarding you guys with pics I promise!! Mischief [:-,]
