Hey Guys,

I had a professional photographer friend of mine come over and take a look at my setup today and help me to overcome the limitations of my Digital camera and get the "best" pictures I could with the equipment I have.

We changed my background from white poster board to black cloth and added additional light filters and removed one light from the setup.  The difference in the quality of pictures was startling.

Here are some additional pictures so you an see the true colors. i don't expect all of you to respond again I just wanted anyone that is considering building this model to be able to leverage my work and get the colors right.

Steve:  Thanks Steve.  I wasn't going to WIP or post this guy he was just a mini-project to keep the juices flowing between projects and the frugal German in me could not justify $8.00 for the use of three rifles and four canteens!  Once I started getting teased about not starting the next project I thought it would be a funny and interesting way of saying stay tuned.... 

Wayne:  I have harnessed the power of the sun of my workbench so everything looks a little washed out. One of these days one of the figures is going to fall into a puddle of toxic waste and with the combination of the radiation  he will come to life.  I have a professional photographer friend coming over to help me with my setup sometime this weekend.  I actually used a deck tan so its a a tannish green and looks just about right.

Adam:  I understand the free market concept of concerning the market on an item and driving up the price! 

Great reference picture and thanks again for helping me with the details on this one.

~Yeah, sure, blame it ALL on me. Did I know he's done? aaahhh......... What I told Ed was the equipment would have some "variation" of the colors you see on his trousers & leggings. They probably do, it's just that Edmund's camera seems to whitewash out colors if you haven't noticed. LOL!  What do you mean when I paint the web gear it's painted!  The Middle stone color you were referring to just did not seem right when I looked at the following real world references.

Adam & Bob:  I can always count on you two to give me a Little push!  I have actually been waiting for parts to arrive and so not one to waste time I have been working on a figure. Adam insisted that I have accurate #3 rifles in my build which I whole heartedly agreed so I purchased the DML Allied Assault Monte Cassiino 1944 figure set to get them.  I was so impressed with the DML molded turban heads that I knew I had to paint one up.  I also have only painted four plastic figures the first itme I ever did figures and all the rest have been resin so I wanted to see how good I could make a plain old plastic figure.

First of all I was really spoiled by the resin figures and fig prep was a lot of work.  I also did not like the beard on the figure so I had to give him a shave and remake the lower face and jaw line.  I am really proud of him so here you go amd he will end up in the Diorama.  I might have to paint up a camel but Adam has corned the market on them!

I will be starting the Horch conversion this week!

Michael:  Thanks Michael!  The technique is actually really simple.  I use a small amount Mig Gunmetal Pigment on edges and highlights of barrels applied with my finger and rubbed to a high gloss followed by dry brushing of MIG Oil and Grease Stain Mixture which leaves a metallic sheen behind.  Great Stuff!

 

Thanks for the tips, that effect is amazing. (hmmm.... I think your technique just gave me an idea on another way to replicate that effect....)

Stunning build, Schnobs!! She's a beaut' and those figs look fantasticly realistic. Sure would hate to to be on the recieving end of their guns.

Those metal effects are...WOW. I just have to learn how you did those effects on the barrel and etc. Guess I have 22 pages to read through.

Those figgers are outrageously realistic.....    extremely good lookin'.

Edmund, that rocks my friend. Those figures really add to this vehicle. I love them! I so see this winning at Evergreen this year. Just a thought man.

I was getting a lot of glare off my light box so I did some tweaking and I can see there is more to do. I wanted to share a few more pics with you guys where the color is not washed out.

WOW, WOW, WOW, WOW, thank you so much for that great anwser! man, that sounds like such a great project, I love the reference picture. And you know, with how great all your other builds have been, this will be just amazing! Wait, no, amazing does not even begin to describe how great this new build will be!!! A new diorama, WOW! Too bad that the German convertion did not come around till 1944. Also, some impolite words escaped you, really? I could never have gussed! LOL.
