I love these military truck kits- If only we 'bi scale' civilian truck guys had the choices you guys have!
I'd really like to apologize now for anything I may say or do later that offends you. Thank you.
AWESOME so far Ed, and still all the extras to add too, wow, can't wait buddy. Sorry the phone call was short last night Ed, had to run, wife was waiting on me. From what you said you wanted to add, this is going to be one fantastic looking model when done. Looking forward to seeing that tarp you'll be making.
Rob
Thanks Tony it has been fun so far, I am looking forward to painting the figures and stowage, I have a few surprises planned that hopefully will turn out cool!

Ed this is just too much and you've still got the figures and stowage to go. WOW

Shoot Low Boys They're Ridin Ponys
Bob, Adam, Wayne, Bill, and Dave thanks for the support and the chuckles last night they are appreciated.
Build update:
I finally glued all the components together for final weathering but couldn't;t resist applying additional weathering to the chassis and taking a few shots with only the cab and chassis. I really like it that way!
I then glued the truck bed to the chassis and here is the complete model and I am now Cortez i have burned my ships and I am committed!
I then applied the oil dot fading to the exterior adn interior truck bed using all MIG Abeitilung oil paints. i used Dark rust to simulate oxidized rust streaks in certain key areas
The next steps are stowage and figures!
Dave I want him to bring this and the shari. Because to be honest with ou if they walk pass it during judging I will have to kick someone in the face and bounce a head or two off the display table.
Edmund,
Please tell me you are bringing this one to the Evergreen show for '10. I would love to see this one up close. Oh yes, and the Saharaiana (sp)
Cheers
Dave
With enough thrust, pigs fly just fine.
Mount looks perfectly at home Edmund! Sharp work on the scratch building addition. This one's really going to stand out with all the details you've been adding to it.

"Well...you gunna pull them pistols, or just whistle Dixie?"
No problem. Heck I will even let the judges ahead of time know who is going to win
Something like
" Any freaking tag that says Edmond Schnable wins.............or I jam about 12 Tank resin figures up your you know what!"
LOL!
You will have to bring your weapon and stand by by model at the Scale Model show in February holding a sign that states that!!
Thanks for the encouragement and the chuckles Bob!!
WOW, WOW and WOW
Ed you are a master, end of story and if no one likes it they can kiss my hairy
OK, Im back. Man nothing worse than holidays and family to throw a chink into your perfectly funtioning lifestyle....of course theres that new Iwata I got
ED~~@@@!!!!!! bro........ WoW, you g0t the thing on its wheels, and its the b0mb! SAAWeeeet! the hubs fit perfect. look great, but you spare rack is the tops!. great solution there, now that it s there, it seems plain it belonged there. With your luck you'l find a photo of one like that in a day or so!
That is fantastic! I like the back story and man does it fit. Question: Is the rebar threaded? If so, is it to scale? LOL
OLE
Hey Dave,
I did let my imagination go wild and I didn't have to go far just to my childhood on the farm making do with what we had and the of course the military. I imagined a veteran Supply Sargent getting fed up watching privates trying to load out there vehicles for a long range patrol and just walked over to a scrap pile and ran up a couple impromptu external spare wheel mounts which he then tack welded to the box and walked away shaking his head at the flightiness of youth.
I used some spare evergreen styrene and made myself a square template and after i drilled out the lug nut holes on the rim of the spare ran some spare wire through the holes to simulate pieces of cut up rebar.
I then went into a flurry of painting and weathering and came up with what I know would happen to unpainted steel int eh desert very quickly.
Enjoy!
to bill's suggestion of the placement of the spare tire. I don't have any references for the spare tire mount but........ some Evergreen styrene angle and c-channel stock and some artistic license. Viola! Spare tire mount. Sorry, for getting carried away. Just a thought
Thanks Bill!
I agree I also tried to throw one on the hood but it takes away from the 40's look of the Hood which is so dang cool! I learned how to drive in a 68 Chevy Farm Truck "Three on the tree" standard transmission. I stil remember the shift pattern!
Do you have nay ideas or pictures on the best way to approach scratch building a mounting bracket?
Wheels and tires look great Edmund! My vote for the spare would be the side...since the gun is in the bed, you wouldn't want anything there that would interfere with it I'm thinking...either from a firing or an accessibility standpoint for servicing, loading/firing, etc.
Dave: Thanks Dave for your steadfast support and encouragement during this WIP and there is a lot more to do. I figure I am only about halfway done. i still have quite a bit of weathering and mapping to do not to mention the stowage and figures.
Wayne: You are too kind for a gruff old Sgt Wayne! Yes they are the original kit sand mats that I reworked with Milli-Put. I decided to lean more heavily on my Artistic side when I painted them because they were also supposed to have a dual function as a signaling device and the ends of the matt were red and white. I painted up a sample and it looked like a piece of peppermint candy that the figures stole from my kitchen and were trying to make off with. In fact it looked like the LRDG Patrol That Stole Christmas! I should contact the BBC and see if they are interested in the intellectual rights.
Here are a few more shots that I liked and now I am trying to figure out the the best mounting point for a spare tire. I am thinking one on the outside of the rear tailgate or right on the open panel of the driver side cargo area. I will have two more inside the bed of the truck as stowage.
Absolutely stunning (as usual).
Yes I did get excited over the wheels so I wanted to send everyone out a Wheely Nice Christmas Tree!
Build Update:
I continued with the Hair Spry method and multiple paint layers for the wheels of course. I started with a Citidal Colour Gunbolt Metal coat.
Followed by a Vallejo Flat Brown coat to simulate Primer.
This was followed by three light coats of Life Color Base Portland Stone and then chipping and a couple of oil washes of Brown Wash. I finished this off with just a little bit of MIG Gulf Sand Pigments.
Oooo the wheels! Don't get too excited Edmund, we all know how you feel about those!
Progress is looking good, the wear and tear on the chassis is top notch.
Consider yourself virtually hugged Bill!!
Get those traning wheels on that bike! 1:1 scale modeling is still modeling!
