I had to..... Most hobby store's dont accept "Bootleg" Greatful Dead tape's as payment.

( I also had to "Occasionally" buy food.)

Life would be a lot easier if we didn't have to eat. It makes us work. Speaking of. It's almost time to slap on my pre-Monday morning glum face.

You mean to say that your going to "Scratchbuild" them ?????

Thanks guys for an interesting read!!!

I didn't enter the world until late '69...

I vaguly remember the 'Planet of the Apes' cartoon show but that's about it.

I saw first all the movies back in the '90s when the SF Channel (back when it wasn't gawdawful) ran a 'Planet of the Apes' week.

Thanks for chiming in. You know.. I had faithfully seen all of those early sequels and each movie was progressively worse. IMO. They made some real stinkers. It didn't help that the movie studio kept cutting the budget to make them. I have not seen any of the newer ones since the Tim Burton version. I was not a fan of his movie and it ruined me for any of the others that came after. I should probably give them a try.

I received the MIM window plastic and it's the same stuff as in the first kit. You can see that optically it is nothing to write home about. Secondly, it has a severe bend to it. As best as I can tell--I don't need it warped as such. Here is the worst part. That plastic has an incredible memory to it. You can bend it straight under a strong tension, but it will snap back like nobody's business. It'd need heat treating, and I am not sure if that would even do it. This is not worth the effort. I will find something much better than this.

I think that I am done with fixing the seats. There is some pitting on the seatbacks that I can't get at. I doubt it will be that noticeable once painted.

I did use CA to fill and repair some of the goings on with these. It worked fine. My concern was with the hardness of CA and that over-sanding could destroy the surrounding areas. I followed my regular regime of using accelerator, then an aggressive sand grit stick, tapered down to a finer grit. I had no problems.

These are far from perfect; I think close enough. I usually wait to paint until I am closer to assembly. In this case, I will probably paint them sooner than later. In-between that--I will work on sanding the hull. There is a lot of work to do along those lines.

Timmy-- remember how clean my new WB was in the Seaview build? Well--not so much anymore. This build is reaching interstellar space, near to a large black hole. Everything surrounding this build is being sucked into its vortex. Pretty soon my workspace will be the size of a dot. This is gonna be a wild ride man.

I hitch-hiked all over the place following them. I dont really know why... ( I didnt care for most of their music) It was the "Carnival" atmosphere I liked .... plus some "other stuff" I cannot mention here.

just curious.....

Is the part with the cryo chamber's solid , or hollow ?

If it's solid, you have a  "L O T"  of Resin to remove. You "may" be better off cutting the whole chunk out and scratchbuilding with Plastistruct.

Tim, its solid. And yes. I plan to remove what they molded and build it from scratch. If I can salvage any part of it I will. Maybe the wall at the feet or something. But... I highly doubt any of it will be useable.

I had a thought about the pitting on the seatbacks. Can you think of anything I could paint on that would fill those deformities and leave a smooth finish? I thought maybe something like white glue might work? Any thoughts on this?

I got another stupid question for you......

Does the kit have the "Textured" interior ?

Yes. The floor and the ceiling is. It looks pretty decent too. It cuts both ways though. In order to save that texture it will limit my ability to run wires around. Why do you ask? Any reason?

I found a "Trick" that will give you the "look" of texture, but isn't really textured.

Someone on this forum used "Panty hose" to duplicate the heat tile's on the space shuttle he was building. Looked very convincing.

If there not too deep, MR. Surfacer might work.

Deeper pit's you could use Spot bondo. I'm not sure if White glue will stick to resin.

If I have do any sanding then it's a no joy. It's too small and too tight an area. In that case I'd just leave it as is. Well, thanks anyway. I might test the white glue.

You better get some sleep sir. Me too. Talk soon.

PS: Tomorrow I will have an update on the engine bells.

Later.

Personally, I'd just shove some scrap pieces of styrene like cut up sprues into the larger gaps and then cover it with whatever you're using for putty.

It always worked for me anyhow.

Perfect Plastic Putty, which you can get at Amazon is pretty good for stuff you don't want/ can't sand. It's water based so you can fill the area, wait ten mins for it to dry some, then scrub it with a moist cotton swab. That will take away the excess while leaving it in the recess without harming surrounding detail or being quite as much of a pain to get into narrow areas.

Hi Gam. I didn't do a good job explaining the problem. The issue is not gaps. The issue is tiny air bubble divots from the molding process. They are on the front side of the seatbacks and it is really tough to get in there, even with a skinny sanding stick. The armrests get in the way. If not for the access issues--this would be a no-brainer.

Now--THIS--might work. I have been meaning to buy and try PPP. I just never got around to it. I will go over my lunch hour and see if my local HobbyTown has it. I am pretty sure they are stocking it.

Thanks for the tip. I completley forgot about this option.

Ah, sorry I misunderstood there. I've had resin with the zillion tiny pinholes too.

Hope the PPP works for you.

No problem Gam. I appreciate your PPP suggestion. Btw. HobbyTown did not have PPP. Then I remembered that I already have Vallejo Plastic Putty. It's their version of it. I will try that tonight.

Here is my solution to the engine bell question:

It occurred to me that maybe I could find a very cheap model on Ebay. I found this. After shipping it was $13 and change. I will cannibalize this kit and keep the rest of the parts for some future need. I need to build up a spare parts bin. So, killing two birds with one stone.

Tim man-- you have got to save your pennies for a better PC. You are gonna disappear on me again. I just know it.

Thanks. They are a bit on the wee side of the scale but I wouldn't want the opposite end of the spectrum either. And--after all. This is an advanced lightspeed propulsion system where a little does much. Propeller

When my "Rock with letter's on it " finally dies, it will serve one final purpose.

I'm gonna take a  H A M M E R .... and "harvest" it's Organ's ! ( it should have some interesting part's for a scratchbuilt spaceship.)

I thought they were kinda small, but I wasn't sure what look you were "shooting " for. I bet if you got the 1/144 scale kit, they would be "just right".
