Are you going to make me look and see if that was really in the movie?

 L O L ! ! !

No... not an actual scene from the movie. But when I found that picture I "thought" it was real. Spent a LOT of time digging up the "Real scene...

Too funny. Laughing. To be honest, I wasn't sure. I was fairly sure, but not sure.

Now you see? You just made my case. Look at that console. Most of it consists of digital displays that you can't even read. Look how drab and dimly lit. A lot of work for what. Balderdash. We'll have to do better than that.

Btw. Don't you love that Taylor is smoking a cigar in a high priced, high tech, and delicate, piece of space hardware? It speaks to the (cough) realism of the movie. Yup.

I'm more concerned about him "lighting up" in an Oxygen enriched confined space !!!

..... Good thing they invented / installed  that "whatchyamacallit" machine .....

So a "Turntable" would defenetly be an improvement. It's easy, just cut out a piece of Black sheet plastic, hollow out the area under it for a small motor, and "TA-DA" ..... Tayler listening to Rob Zombie ..... all the while screaming through space ..... at light speed !

(  I was gonna say "listening to The Monkey's" , but I dont think they would make for a very good soundtrack... beside's , Talyer is more "hardcore" than that ! )

Yeah that would be funny. I think retail space will be very limited by how they designed this kit. My primary focus will be to light some things up so they can be seen from the back. Maybe if I am lucky, a little bit can be seen through the windows. That phase of the project will be a few months down the road.

Way to think out of the box,

The credit really ought go to PeterPan, with his AdLib project.  It has really engaged my "found items" modeling itch.

Shortly after my last post (2:44 PM ) my "rock" decided I was under attack an it ducked and covered ..... and we all know how "effective" that is.

I have been "Hacking" my way back in to FSM ever since 3:00..... ( somebody please drop something Heavy on my foot .... that would be Way more fun " than rewriting Javascript code's  ! )

Since I don't know how long my "duct-tape " will hold..... I will  leave you with this.....

Sorry to hear about your puter problems.

There is something funky happening with this website and maybe that is why you had issues yesterday. It's being reported that weird things are happening in the ship section. I went there to check it out and sure enough the page is not displaying correctly. Sigh.

Today I am painting alclad on the chairs. I did not get any sanding done on the hull. Other priorities kicked in.

'These Apes movies are popular. Just buy the rights and get someone to make a monkey and stick it on the bike, do I have to think of everything!?!'

I was a poor "farmboy" in 1973 , so I couldn't afford all the toy's I wanted. But my friend's and I could "Pool" our toy's and together we could "Act out" what we saw on TV .

My neighbor Greg had this

I had these...

I didnt have all 6. I had 4 ( two of them were the same) but I don't remember which one's I had ( They all suffered the same "Black Cat" explosive demise.)

If only I Had N O T been allowed to buy fireworks ..... I also breifly watched the TV series and just had to have this.

I didnt have it very long..... A much LARGER Planet of the Apes fan beat me up and took it !  My parent's then bought me a "Raggedy Ann and  Andy" lunch box to replace it...... Then I "REALLY" got beat up !

Those are awesome Timmy!!! Being born in '69 I only really remember the end of the apes craze. Pretty clear George Lucas learned a lot from it on his merchandising of Star Wars.

Gotta wonder if the fourth cryo chamber broke down from all the smoke in the electronics from Taylor setting his to wake him up every couple lightyears for a smoke break... Wink

Hmm. Glow stick.

I have experimented with these.

Some cool effects, if, annoyingly temporary.

Per the MSDS, you only need rubber gloves if handling the liquid; the activator is simple hydrogen peroxide.

Slightly simpler, if used, to make a tubular holder that can be reloaded.

Upsides:  No temperature change; no batteries; no leaks.
Downsides:  Not tunable, the lumen output is the output.  No "off" switch; Needs like a 12-15mm holder around 15-18cm long.

As cigars go, as nice as a hand-rolled, just in claro when you really wanted maduro.

Hmm, just thought about it--going to need gravity to make a turntable work (else the cartridge floats off the platter).  If there's artificial graity generation, then there's not much need for reaction rocket nozzles  . . . Hmm, probably a good thing I picked up a hand-rolled maduro 6-9-6 yesterday at the gunshow when I got the kitchen knife parts for my next project . . .

Alas, a subassembly is compete.

Below: How the chairs look in the movie prop.

Below: Baksters version.

Paints used, in the same order:

Tamiya Semi Gloss Black

Alclad Aluminum

Final coating is a mixture of 30% Testors Glosscote and 70% Testers Dulcote.

Next up is some major sanding and fitting of the hull. After that I will tackle the window assembly.

Testors make's a "Satin" that might have worked for this .... or did you try it and decide that it wasn't going to work for this ?

BTW: I waited in line at comic-con all day today ...just so I could get you this.

Hey thanks Tim!

To tell you the truth I don't ever recall seeing the satin version being sold locally. So, I used what I have.

Buddy! I would love something like that. Not just because of my history with the movie. No. But that Heston is my all-time favorite actor. I don't think I have ever seen a movie with him in it that I didn't like. Best actor ever. Just my opinion of course. If I had a signed picture of this I'd frame that sucker, and spare no expense.

You are truly psychic. You knew what to get me. Even though it's just ONE BIG TEASE!

Lol.

I'll second that!

I was thinking about this last night. I wonder if we'd be sitting here talking about this movie if Heston didn't star in it. As huge a star as he was then, he brought a lot of credibility to the movie. Take him out of the equation and the movie might have become a blip on the radar screen. Heck--the movie might not have even happened. From what I read Hes had to push the studio to move on it. They were not interested in it.

Btw. You inspired me to google all the toys that this movie generated. Holy apes! I remember some of them, but there is a lot that I don't.

If you didn't find it in your search I've been reading Plaid Stallions for some time, the guy posts a lot of old toys and such stuff. Entering Planet of the Apes I got the following (and I don't know why UFO came up at the top- just scroll down).

http://plaidstallions.blogspot.com/search?q=planet+of++the+apes

I love the Apes helicopter!

PS: You don't think it would have been a big hit with James Francisus as the lead in the first one?  Wink No offence to him but yeah I think Heston's name did a heck of a lot on getting it up and running.

Well... it will be a bit before I can post another relevant update. More supplies are ordered, and sanding will be the norm for this week. There is nothing to show with that!

Going out on a limb here but I thought we could have some fun. Who wants to play, "What's this contraption?" If you do... post your thoughts. If not, please ignore. I will let this run until Saturday. Which at that point, I will let you know what the thing is. Tim is responsible for the prizes. Got that Timmy?

Let me warn you that Tim's prizes are virtual. They may include such things as sabretooth chickens, and/or, nonstop talking caricatures that he cages for the fun it. Oh, and Tim. You can play too. But--I am warning you. Don't try your psychic vulcan mind melding on me. I am putting my thoughts in a lead lined container, and... I am putting it through a mental imagery scrambler.

I will only tell you that it has to do with modeling. I can't tell you more than that because Timmy can see into the ether. I have probably said too much already.  Sigh.
