Currently building the Airfix E-boat. Not nearly as nice as the Revell piece.

Right now I am producing 1:48 plans on CAD for a Flower Class corvette. HMCS Chicoutimi, my father-in-laws' ship. Construction is styrene and prototypical because in that scale I want to leave the hatches open and model parts of the interior. Been at it for about 6 months now and the ship is framed from stem to the engine room. Estimate another 2 years or so.

Tip:
When doing things like this on CAD, print the patterns onto peelable label sheets, then just transfer the sheet to your material and cut away. Just make sure to use the peelable type because the other kind sticks like @!#$ to a blanket.

My cousin is aboard the USS Lake Erie. Since there isn't a model available, I've been updating Dragon's USS Mobile Bay. Not a whole lot of conversion, but enough to keep me double-checking my references!

Currently repairing the INS Alfredo Orinai and HIJMS Tachikaze both combat warships in 1/72nd.
Converting the Captain's Launch from the FNS Surcouf to remote control after taking the guts out of a cheap remote control mouse ( a bit char with a mouse on top) also in 1/72nd.
A Kami Class amphibious Japanese tank to be placed on a combat Japanese LST being constructed by a fellow combatant.
The FNS Surcouf, also in 1/72nd.
Is that it? I think so, way too many projects.Dead [xx(]

Getting closer every day to finishing Banner's 1/350 Arizona.Smile [:)] But today is the 61st anniversary of the Doolittle Raid on Tokyo - what better way to honor it than to start on the Trumpeter Hornet kit?Big Smile [:D]

But I've promised myself not to start ANOTHER kit until I've finished this one Sad [:(]

B. LeCren;
Quite the adventure huh? I posted earlier in this thread that I was doing a 1/32 Schnellboot on CAD and I am now done with the hull lines. started the deck structures and equipment.

BTW that's a good tip.

Derek,
Where did you get the plans that you are placing on CAD for your Schnellboot?
I have a 1/72nd for R/C combat and am working on the Revell S-100. I would love a set of hull plans for an S 38 Class or above.

A TRIO of the G3 class, which ought to make any one in 1/700 salivate. Just for kicks, followed by the HP 1/700 Tirpitz. I'm puttering around on the No.13-16.
Otherwise making money to buy several of the Constellation battlescouts and the SoDak (1) BBs when Imperial Hobby Productions gets the production run going on both.
All of that should entitle me to laser surgery for the eyes!

For Schnellboot drawings go to

and scroll down to the "Schnellboote" picture. Good drawings and even a short German lesson.

I AM CURRENTLY CONVERTING A 1/350 GEARING DESTROYER TO A USS SARSFIELD DD-837 IN THE 1970 CONFIGURATION. MY DAD SERVED ON HER IN THE VIETNAM WAR. HE ALWAYS THOUGHT THEY SCRAPPED HER, BUT I RECENTLY DISCOVERED THAT SHE WAS SOLD TO TAIWAN AND CONVERTED TO A GUIDED MISSLE CRUISER. I WAS AMAZED TO SEE HOW MANY OF OUR 'OLD SHIPS' THAT ARE SOLD TO OTHER COUNTRIES.

The Ship model that is getting the most attention is the 1/72nd scale Japanese LST .
See the build up here,

Where to put a 1/100 scale battleship a problem?
Where do you suppose BShuldt parks his 1/72 Bismark.

Seen here with an R/C 1/700 scale Iowa Class.

Or the shelf that William Terra needs to park his 1/20th scale Graf Spee?

I'm still staring at my 1/350 Hornet by Trumpeter and trying to figure out whether to build it as is or configuring it into the Enterprise. The latter will take some doing as I'm not exactly sure how different these sister ships were. I can't wait for the Saratoga/Lexington carriers Trumpeter says they're about to release.

I'm finishing my Hornet 1:350, but i allready started 1:350 Mini Hobby Models RN POLA.
Its my 8th 1:350 ship. The 2nd smaller and poor kit of all, but i like it the same way, it could be worst.

I'm working on the Academy 1/350 RMS Titanic ( 4-5 years now ), the 1/200 Yamato ( without any kit instructions and missing parts ) and a Billings "Norske Löwe" about 1/48 scale. I have finished the Revell USS Constitution sometime ago, an Academy Roman Galley, U-Boot Mk IXB and most recently PT-117 ( Revell ).

I'm currently working on Tamiya's 1/700 waterline Scharnhorst. I'm fitting her out with her corresponding Edourd photoetch set. Masking and painting her was painstaking and slow due her small size, but I got through it, minus some of my previous good vision, but she looks nice. I bought a lexan case with a walnut base normally used for HO trains, but it fits the Scharnhorst perfectly. I've also had a brass nameplate made for her. I plan on covering the top or the base with "water" made from Liquidex gel medium and have her under full steam in her lexan case. I've got alot done, but there's about 10 things that can still go wrong. (Down from 100) So far, so good. Wish me luck ! :-)

Finished the 3rd Revell S-100 Schnellboote with White Ensign brass set, working on a 1/32 scale S-100 scratchbuilt, and the new 1/350 IJN TONE from Minekaze is next on the list.

After that, I've got a 1/48 HMS Warspite I have to build for a museum, so I'll be out of commission for awhile I'm sure!

Claymore68:
Been a while since I looked at this thread ... Nice to hear there is someone else out there into CAD scratchbuilding. Even though I am still framing the corvette I've completed research on a salvage tugboat and am ready to begin framing another 1:48 hull. This one will be solid, not with the prototypical interior of the corvette.
In fact I'm rethinking the number of spaces to open up on that one ... That's one of the problems with original plans; one tends to get a bit too ambitious at times.
Good luck with your Schnellboot ... will it be static or motorized?
Regards.

Quesney:
I assume you mean things like the figures around the stern lights, scroll work, poop lantern, and such. I am not familiar with your kit, but doesn't it come with these things? In any event, the figures and scrolls are often repetitive so I suggest making a master and casting them. A good reference is "Historic Ship Models" by Wolfram zu Mondfeld.

I am sure that this is the would be the least favorite thing to see from the bridge of your destroyer.

Tachikaze's(P. McKinney) 1/72nd schnell boat
He is also working on an R/C conversion of the Revell kit.

Here are a couple of pictures of the Revell S-100 Schnelleboote that I am attempting to convert to R/C. The engine is the rewind motor for a point and shoot camera. I will be using the Team Orion Flash ESC with a standard Futaba two channel receiver. The battery pack is a four cell 2/3 AA, basically the same set up that I am running in the HPI RS4 Micro car.
I have to modifie the props, they are far too steep in their angle of attack. I have cut the blades off of the center prop and reglued them at the desired angle. I am then going to make a mold of the modified prop ( so I have extras for other projects) and replace the prop with the new casted unit. I plan on running just the central drive as it would increase the weight too much to make a gear box to run all three drives. Plus experience tells me that I do not need to run three drives to get a good speed with this motor and prop combination.

I have also seperated the deck behind the bridge to allow easier access to the interior of the boat.
More pictures to come as the project progresses. Right now too many things going on with Combat R/C Warships.
Phil

B. LeCren,
I am planning for R/C but there a couple things I need to work out, running gear layout access hatches, etc. I may do a static after.

Umi, if I were a destroyer captain I wouldn't worry too much about a topedo boat.

Oops forgot to mention that I'm working on a C. W. Morgan.

DD Captains worried about S-boats
Posted by Jeff Herne on Saturday, June 21, 2003 12:13 AM
I dunno Claymore,

If you've read Steve Wiper's Warship Pictorials on the S-boats, you'd think otherwise...it seems the Germans had a field day sitting in wait and ambushing British DDs at night...since the S-boats were mostly wood, they had very small radar signatures. Still, trying to hit a small target moving at 42 knots with something substantial enough to stop it would seem daunting to me...
