Night ambush - the best tactic for any torpedo boat! You would have to be mighty close to a DD to score a kill with a torpedo due to the DDs speed, rapid turn rate and small size. this would bring the S-Boot well into range of the main guns and 40mm Bofors. Might be hard to hit with a 5"/38 but the quad, or even dual mount would turn it into a large patch of flotsam.

Ever notice the best patrol boats are (mostly) civilian designs.

Here is a photo of the drive line stuffing tube for my R/C conversion of the Revell S-100 Schnelleboote.
The plan will be to utilize the Team Orion Flash ESC from my HPI RS4 Micro car with a standard Futaba two channel reciever. ( I may have to use a Shredder if the weight becomes a problem). The battery pack will be a four cell 2/3 AA pack with a micro servo for the rudder.

Well I'm not building at the moment but I have built HMS Polyanthus, a Flower in 1:72, a working conversion of the Matchbox kit, a Billings Dragon Class yacht, MV Mercantic 1:50 scale Billings kit, the HFM kit of a Thames Barge Kathleen, also a working model and last but not least Revels 1:96 Cutty Sark. The Cutty Sark is finished to tally with a photo in B Lubeks "Log of the Cutty Sark". Note that some of the kits colour instructions are wrong... the lower hull in monnel metal not copper. There are many companies in the UK that sell plans for model ships check the net. TTFN Dai.

I finally finished the Schnell, an article and photos will be posted on the site within a few days.

Next project is a whirlwind build of the Panda Burke, then probably the Minekaze 1/350 IJN Tone...or maybe I'll keep plugging away on my scratchbuilt IJN Takao in 1.350.

Maybe I'll just take the summer off...

Im jumping around between a few kits... but right now the revell 1:72 flower class corvette: snowberry has top priority. I recived some parts from SIRMAR models. not long ago, and eaven thou some are really good (hedgehog set), there are ALOT of work to be done on most parts (so ask around before ordering).
And some general scratchbuilding aswell so i have no idea when it will hit the water. (RC naturally)

I am in the midst of restoring my Revel Cutty Sark. I built it originaly to a photo in Basil Lubecks Log Of The Cutty Sark. I also got some info from the Cutty Sark Museum. We agreed to disagree over the paint job (They coppied a paintingwhich i dont think is accurate).
But did agree about the under water plating Monel Metal a brassy colour. The reason for refurbishment ...I smashed the rigging,by accident.
When this is finished I will start on a 1/100 sctatch build of the SMS Thurigen.
I have several,whisper...,aircraft on the go too.

Jeff,
Impressive! I've seen the Revell kit in the box, and was duly impressed by all the detail; the finished product looks great! So does the Kagero and the U-boat. How did the Revell kit go together? Did you build it out of the box?

Gip,

In the Features Section of Modelwarships.com is the full article I did on the S-100.

It's a very nice kit right from the box, with only a few minor corrections that need to be made. It's lightyears ahead of the venerable old Airfix E-boat released decades ago, at a fraction of the price.

If you add the WEM photoetch to it, you've got a model that really can't be detailed any further aside from doing an interior!

Regards,

Jeff Herne

Well for the last two years I've been starting my "Snowberry" but so far haven't washed off the plastic yet.
Every time I think of starting it an unusual aircraft, Triple A gun or car catches my eye. Which is a good thing I think... this week I found out about swiping guns from the RAF launch. If anyone has ant other tips I'd sure like to hear them.

Right now I'm working on the Nichimo 1/200 Type IXC U-Boat. I like the kit and it can be motorized.

I'm currently doing a "Ship-Alt" of the USS Douglas H. Fox, a sumner class DD 779 for my father. It was his first ship out of Annapolis in 1959. He told me all of the places where I fot it wrong and now I hope it will be a fitting tribute.

Nichimo's 1/500 Nagato, an old kit with molded railings, I mean it's real crude. Gotta rework her in many ways, including sanding off the fixture & rescribing the deck. Doing her up in her final configuration, when she surrendered. Does any one has more pic on her at the time of her surrender kindly pls keep me posted. I've got some pic from the web as well as the photos in the Gakken series.
Moving on next, Nichimo's 1/200 Yamato? or the old Imperial Chines ironclad "Ting Yuen". I've completed my research on the Yamato, while I'm still collating info on the ironclad. Does any one know of any good plan on this ship. All I have is her top & side view plan drawing, a good number of photos & of course the crude kit by Zheng DeFu. I guess my next project will all depend on whether do I have sufficient info to start scratch building the ironclad.

Hey guys if you're interested in a website to post perm. pics of a WWII ship. Try
http://www.bismarck-class.dk/shipmodels/shipmodels_menu.html
I have the Tirpitz and the Hood to build and mentioned it on my guest book entry while researching the Tirpitz. He said send pics when I finished it and he'd post them. That was nearly two years ago though. He got a nice gallery though.

Numerous.
1/350 Titanic, Enterprise,Essex, New Jersey, Yamato...just to name a few.
I'm also researching and building every incarnation of the USS Enterprise from the Star Trek series. I'm up to NCC-1701 A right now.
I'm planning a an armor diorama featuring the Tamiya Hummvee, an Abram,a Bradley Fighting Vehicle, and a few Marines from my former MP Unit.
The big plan? A scratch-built, 1/350 waterline model of the Bonnehomme Richard (LHD-6). I served aboard her briefly back in 2000.

Submarines... 9 in fact...fleet boats...currently USS Baya as an AGSS sonar test platform, USS Barb as she ended WWII, USS Parche early in WWII, USS Perch as an APSS during Korean War, USS Croaker as an SSK, USS Torsk as a fleet snorkel, USS Clamagore as GUPPY, ex USS Blueback as the Fleet Snorkel that was transferred to Turkey I think, USS Seacat as a Fleet "Gunboat". All are from the Revell Lionfish kit (I actually have 6 more of the kits sitting around for further work) . Right now I am making masters for the periscope shears and guns so I can cast them in resin. Been working on and off on the subs for 2 years. Can't do too much while I'm plying my day job (and night and weekends) as an officer on a US 688 sub, but I have ben known to take the kits down to the boat on duty days and get some work done during down time. Oh, and after all the subs are done...then I'll start my next project... a model of the USS Abraham Lincoln and numerous models of the planes in her airwing during OIF... little tribute to my wife (also a Navy Officer) who is for some reason willing to put up with my modeling addiction.
