My most expensive in the CH Tiger I with Wittmann markings at £75. Second was my current build, the CH Panther with Pz IV turret at £70.

The one that will take up the most space is my 72nd B-52D. Though i think the 32nd Ju 88 will run it close.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

I have the Tamiya Yamato, the new kit. its probably the biggest and most expensive (as I have all the photo etch). To be honest its going to sit in the stash for a while as it scares me a bit Embarrassed

A close second would be the Zoukei-Maura A-1J Skyraider for size or the Airfix Mosquito.

My biggest kit is a Tamiya 1/350 New Jersey, which should also be the most expensive, but it was a gift which makes it one of the cheapest.

My most expensive kit would probably be the Eduard 1/48 Fw 190A-5 Profipack, which I made the silly mistake of buying locally instead of getting it from overseas.

1/350 Hasegawa Akagi    biggest and most expensive

I've had it in the stash for a few years, and I won't build it until I retire and make my final move.No way do I want to spend months on it,then wreck it in a out of state move.

Well, I'm not sure of the most expensive, but the biggest must be my Gene Hooker 1/72 vac C-133 Cargomaster!  It's going to be a beast someday... :)

My biggest and most expensive is the Trumpeter 1/32 F-14A.  Bought it for myself for my birthday this year. A bit intimidating to look at.  Will wait until i get more experience (and shelf space) before building.

Bronto - that 1/35 Dora is a monster! Hope you post some pics when it's built.

Largest kit and most expensive kit "at the time of purchase" is the Minicraft/Hasegawa P-2 Neptune I have to convert into the AP-2H. At the time I bought it, it cost 6 Hasegawa Phantoms (first tooling). After years and years, I have the conversion, Zotz released decals, and I have the parts for the flares I want to load it with.

Most expensive recent kit is the new tool Hasegawa F-4G Wild Weasel,,,,,,I found one of the "Blue Box" kits at a show, and was okay with paying the collector's price for it,,,,,,,just months before the kit got released for only the second production run in that molds' history (the old decals didn't come in the new release, though)

almost gone

Wow, no one here does garage kits???

Most expensive is a Star League Gunstar from the mid '80s movie 'The Last Starfighter'. Giant hunk of resin about 1/48th scale I think, cost me something north of a hundred.

Plus a bunch of other SF kits, from Babylon 5 and other series - all limited run and insanely expensive...

My most expensive kit in my stash is the 1/48 scale Collect-Air XP-67 Moonbat.  Got it around 5 years ago for $150.  It's in stark contrast to all the Monogram kits I have surrounding it which are around $20 or less.  Surprise  The Moonbat was my one guilty splurge.  When it comes to model kits, I like 'em cheap.

Full R/C option 1/16th scale Tamiya Tiger I model kit I won in a random drawing at a now-defunct modeling website (kithobbyist.com). It was 11 years ago, and I still haven't gotten around to it.

Original retail price was $1000, but was on sale for $750 (as per the sales invoice that came with the kit). Shipping was free.

I see a couple listed on eBay for $655 + $120 shipping, so the price has remained about the same in over a decade.

Not my kit, but someone's auction for one just like it:

Most expensive is easy - Fisher's 1/32 F7U-3M Cutlass. Pricey, that...makes any other aircraft I have in the stash look cheap, even the Tamiyastangs.

Biggest...well I recently finished HK's B-25, but it was a commission build and so it's no longer with me, but in terms of sheer footprint it was probably the biggest. Outside of that, my 1/144 Revell of Germany USS Fletcher. One beast of a ship.

On the Bench: 1/32 Trumpeter P-47 | 1/32 Hasegawa Bf 109G | 1/144 Eduard MiG-21MF x2

Modelsvit 1/72 Antonov An-124 for size and price. Next would probably be tied between the old Aurora Screwdriver Assy. 1/32 B-25 and Eldon 3D Moon Survey, with the B-25 the larger of those two.

The most expensive kit I have is the resin 1/220 Kotobukiya Buran, from the "Goiken-Muyo Abunai Mechanics Series"(!).  I think it was something like 22,000 Yen ($275 USD in today's money, a lot less when I bought it.)  The only other kit I have in that price range is the Accurate Armour T28 super heavy tank ($200), seemingly rendered redundant (maybe, maybe not) by the DML plastic kit.

The biggest model I have is the 1/144 Bandai HGUC Dendrobium, which is something like 39 inches long.  It is too wide to fit into my display case, so it never got finished.

I think the title of biggest, most expensive plastic kit must go to the Soar Art 1/35 Dora rail gun.  A friend bought one and said that the box was almost too heavy to carry into the house!  What the heck are we thinking when we buy stuff like that?

Most expensive would have to be either Tamiya's (original) 1/350 HIJMS Yamato, or the Aoshima 1/350 HIJMS Maya-1944 fit. Both were purchased on sale at LHSs and even on sale cost over $80 each.

My largest in the stash has to be the Revell 1/48 B-1, with the Monogram B-29 a close second... The biggest built so far are the old Dragon 1/35 SS-1 Scud on TEL, Monogram 1/48 B-17G, and Academy 1/350 Graf Spee.

My largest and most expensive is probably my 1/200th IJNS YAMATO by Nichimo and nearly 5 feet long and nearly $800.00.  I was in Tokyo in 1982 and paid around $50.00 for it.

Aircraft kit would be Tamiya's 1/32nd F-15 for most expensive, Monogram 1/72nd B-36 for largest.

Biggest at a little over 3 feet long, and most expensive ($75 for the kit and around $50 in accessories) would be the Polar Lights 1/350 Refit Enterprise. That kit's been out.....what-8 years now?  Still not quite ready to assemble it.  Soon!  ;)

Most expensive- 1997 release of the Academy/Minicraft 1/350 Titanic, and all the Tom's Modelworks and Gold Medal Models aftermarket stuff to go with it.

Largest- depends on how you look at it, but either the 1/72 Revell/Monogram RB-36H or the 1/72 Megatech balsa and tissue paper Hindenburg (48" long). That Hindenburg is also honorable mention for my most expensive.

There is a thread on another forum about the Dora that Bronto is talking about. It's something I would never attempt and hats off to Bronto  for even considering building it. That thing is a beast for sure!

Most expensive kit in my stash is going to be my next build: Eduard 1/48 Fw 190 A8/R2 Royal Class-$170.

It's gonna be alot of fun though.

Hey there Bish. This one doesn't come with a mug but it does come with alot of goodies. First off, as with all Royal Class kits, it comes with two of everything as follows: Two complete kits, Two Big Ed kits including color photo etch, regular photo etch and masks. Then it comes with the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves and then lastly a piece of aircraft skin from an A8/R2 that was shot down in Normandy. I comes with a small story behind the plane and the battle that took place the day it was shot down. Really neat kit. Here's a pic:

Hi! I would have to state, truthfully that the 1/72scale, old release of MATCHBOX,s  version of the CORVETTE (U.S.S.SNOWBERRY ) kit.. It,s big to start with. Now factor in all the work and hardware for radio control that remains hidden under the stock kit parts and that is the most expensive kit (and biggest) in my stash.I figure the kit cost plus about $600.00 for radio gear and there you have it.Unless you want to figure my very old  U.S.S. CONSTITUTION in wood.when I bought it the price was over $1,100.00 bucks. And it,s four and one half feet long tip of bowsprit to end of spanker boom.Still have a fit of time trying trying to get it displayed after three moves. It,s BIG      Tanker-builder

Let's see.  The most expensive might be the Trumpeter T-34's  in 1/16th scale.  I have 2 of them, the 76mm gun and 85mm, that I got at over half off a few years ago.

They aren't the largest though.  I also have the  1/350 Star Ship  Enterprises, and Revell's large 1/96th (I think that's the scale),  U.S.S. Constitution and the Italeri 1/35 Elco PT Boat.

I have built the Revell 1/72 Gato and U-Boats and they take up quite a bit of shelf space.  In fact, shelve space has stopped my finishing of the Trumpeter 1/350 Hornet.  It is mostly done aside from rigging it and finishing the aircraft, but I have no good place to put it, unless I move a whole bunch or 1/35 tank models around.  It's getting near critical around my place.  I have even started putting built models on top of my wife's baby Grand Piano, much to her displeasure.  But I think it looks neat with a phalanx of tanks charging the keyboard....fun to dust though.

I tend to hold off on kits over $100, and wait until some sales happen.  I used to buy a lot of Accurate Armor kits, but now all the stuff I like is out in plastic.  Which is good, because as I loath working with Epoxy or CA.  (I knew I should have built all those Valentines years ago.)

I have to say that even some inexpensive 1/48 Bomber kits take up a lot of space, like the B-17 and B-24  I have built.  They even take up a lot of ceiling space.

That Megatech Hindenburg is either not 1/72 or it's not 48" long! A 1/72 Hindenburg would be about 2 1/2 times that length.

Not sure why I thought it was 1/72- I rechecked the box and no scale is actually listed. It does say it's 48" long.

When I was a kid, my parents got me a 1/32 B-1 bomber for Christmas. The box was almost as big as I was. I never started it, mainly because I had no clue as to where I'd put it if I ever finished it. When I left for school my parents divorced and a lot of my stuff disappeared, including all of my models. Now the biggest model in my stash is probably a 1/72 Tu-22M Backfire (I only do 1/72 aircraft now). None of my kits were particularly expensive when I got them, that I can recall.

For me I have bought both the Accurate Armor 1/35th U-boat VC-IIC and the quayside set for just over a grand. Calling it my retirement project and with the sub alone measuring out to 6ft in length finding a spot for it presents a problem.

2nd runner up and something a little more manageable is the Trumpeter 1/200 Arizona w/ the KA Models Arizona deluxe pack.

Currently the biggest kits in my stash are a couple of 1/24th FW 190s (one's an Airfix and the other is a Heller) and the Monogram B-36 kit box is the same size as the 190 boxes!  The most expensive kit is the WNW AMC DH-2 my wife gave me for Christmas.  (I do have some other kits that the MSRP is higher but I didn't pay the for them.  eg. I payed 30 bucks for an unopened Revell of Germany 1/72 U-Boat)

B-36, cv-65, or the mighty mo.  Started the b-26 years ago, then realized i had nowhere to put it.  Afraid of the two boats.

The biggest would have to be the Italeri 1/24 Mann cabover with reefer trailer. As for most expensive it would be a tie between the DML 1/48 JU88G Nachtjager and the Pro-Mod Me310 both due to the amount of a/m resin and p/e goodies I've rounded up for them.I was pretty embarrassed thinking what I've spent on just 2 kits until I saw how much a resin Ju388 went for on evil bay recently,do'nt feel half bad about it now! Thanks random big spender whom ever you are!

My biggest is probably Revell's F-15 D/E in 1/32. I haven't built it yet. I picked it up for about $8.00 at a local craft store. They used to have a few shelves for models but decided  to get rid of them so they had a clearing out sale. With the large size I would really like to detail it but first I need to get a few planes kits under my belt before I start.

I have two Revell 1/72 scale U- Boats and a bunch of photo etch to go with them. So they are both the most expensive and the biggest.       On the other hand I have a 1966 issue of Revells Pine Island seaplane tender thats worth $145.00 But I started it in 1995 and I messed it up so as soon as I fix it it will be worth $1.98!

My most expensive is the 1:400 Karel Doorman Dutch aircraft carrier. But when I take my biggest model and the after market stuff, the Tamiya 1:350 Yamato defnetly wins. The model was € 75, Eduard etching €50, Gun barrels was 3x €10 and zome small stuff also a total of about €50. So €210,- what is about $280,-

The Yamato is halfway his build, the Karel Doorman will be the next ...

On the bench: 1:350 Yamato + I-400, 1:48 F15 strike eagle...

My biggest and most valuable kit is a 1/8 scale Pocher Mercedes 500K molded in redfrom around 1980.  It was passed on to me when my friend Roger passed away several years ago. It is very rare because Pocher was not allowed to produce a red body version and was forced to stop the kit. I believe it is worth about $1,000.

My largest is probably a scratch built 1/25th scale Lombard log hauler pulling a pair of logging sleighs. its overall length is slightly more than 48". Other large kits would be the RoG Simba crash truck, RoG Neoplan Cityliner bus also the most expensive (about $150) and the AMT payhauler. All are 1/25th scale.

Most expensive?  Heck, if I pay more than $30 for one, it's too much!  I would have to say my 1/96 Saturn V (Revell's History Maker version).  It was $100 back in 1980 something when I bought it for myself for my birthday.

Biggest?  1/72 Shuttle with ET and boosters.

My largest model aircraft completed is my 1/72 scale B-*36 Peacemaker that's hanging on my ceiling, followed by my two completed B-52's. My largest unbuilt aircraft is my Trumpeter 1/72 scale Tu-160 Blackjack bomber.

May largest armor model is currently 96% assembled: My Hobby Boss 1/72 scale Dora railgun. I'd say that was my most expensive model as well.

Finally, in ships, I have the 1/350 scale Tamiya USS Enterprise that was given to me by a friend.

I also have a 1/12th scale 1911 Christie firetruck completed. That would be my largest automotive subject.

Those are my largest models in my collection and stash.

The largest would have to be the 1/9 scale Esci BMW R75.  the most expensive would be a special edition Fujimi  1/76th JadgTiger  it featured P/E engine screens and white metal spare tracks cost was $20 def. not worth the additional expense.

I have the Tu-142, a later version of the Bear in 1/72, and yes, the B-36 is larger, but not by much. I also have the Tu-160 Blackjack, (as mentioned) and is is at least as large, if not larger, than the B-36. So far, I haven't started either one of those. I really should; those boxes are huge. To date, the largest plane I've finished is the An-12 Cub, but my DC-6 is getting close and that is slightly bigger than the Cub.

Largest and most expensive are one and the same. Tamiya 1/32 F-14A, purchased when first released in the early 1980's. I,ve dragged it around through 3 states and a half dozen homes or more.

I've purchased *lots* of aftermarket accessories, decals and references over the years; but always worried that I wouldn't be able to do it justice. After seeing the cover article of the 1/32 F-4  in FSM a couple of months ago, I decided I needed to do something bigger than my recent 1/72.  Started the rescribing project a couple of months ago, and while it has moved off the bench to finish (and start) a couple of passion projects, I am committed to getting it underway in a serious way later this year.

Largest: the Revell/Monogram 1/48 B-1. I stil do not have a clue where to put that monster if I build it (fortunatly I have 150+ other kits waiting in the stash)

Most expensive, probably my Azur 1/32 Polikarpov I-16. Not that expensive but I buy all my kits cheap at verndor tables or at sales. For instance, I have paid only € 10,- for the Hasegawa Ki-84 Hayate "visible edition" with PE and white metal. I think the retail price would be much higher.

I to have been working on a monster, 1/35 Dora railway gun. I am about 75% done, but every time I think I am getting ahead I add more scratch builling items that someone has done, and I try to improve mine. As for the cost it was purchase on E-Bay in total for $635. I think this was a great buy.

I don't know if this counts but...... I am combining several 35 scale kits together.  Trumpeter BR-52, K5 Leopold, Karl Morser with Railway carriages, two gondolas and two flatcars all loaded with various stuff ( Tamiya field kitchen, AA guns and various resin from Black Dog).  When finished it will be 12 foot 8 and with figures and extras and a scratch built track I hope to break 10,000 pieces.   Price will be close to $750 and three years of enjoyment.  Would have liked to go bigger, but ran out of wall.

I also likem cheap, most of my stash comes from model swap meets.. The most expensive has to be the Revival metal bodied Mercedes 163 prewar Grand Prix kit I got as an anniversary gift, about $120. I like smaller scale kits so none of them are particularly big, maybe my vacuform 1/72  TU 22.

Biggest would be the Revell B-1B as well.  Most expensive would probably be the Trumpeter F/A-18E.  But it came with default VFA-143 decals, so I see that as a win/win considering I transitioned them into that scheme.  :)

I have a few other big kits in the stash like the 1:58 C-130J , and a couple of Monograms vintage bomber kits.  Those have always been nice big kits.

Revell Monogram 1/48 Boeing B-29 "Humpin Honey" . Ha, you can check it out in all it's glory in this forum, just search "Revell Boeing B-29" to view pictures.   Most expensive...so far, gotta be my Academy 1/400 Premium Edition Titanic, ($225) what a super cool kit! Photo-etch, wooden decks and correct bow anchor tub to name a few.

I'll toss in my lot. The most expensive kit is the Academy 1/48 MH-53 Sikorsky Sea Stallion. Paid $95.00 for it when it was released. Not a helicopter enthusiast but the kit has the markings for my brothers squadron, HM 214, of which he was the commander. My biggest kit is a close one between the MH-53 and the Tamiya 1/350 HMS Prince of Wales. I'm honing my modeling skills a bit before I tackle either of these. especially the MH-53.

Biggest is the Heller Victory. The hull is pretty much done, but the addition of the bowsprit and masts will make her at least 1 meter long by 1 high.

Theist expensive is a Combrig  1/350 Scharnhorst (WW1) that I'm in for $ 250 for the basic resin kit and have not started sourcing out details for yet. Plenty of PE in the future.

I could pay for whatever kit I want, but it's the principle of the thing.

Therefore, I keep my cutoff  right around $65-$70.

The only exception I made was for the International Space Station, which was a tic more expensive.

One of the most fun builds I've ever had. I truly enjoyed my time at the bench with that one.

My biggest is the Revell 1/48 B1-B that I built in the "Swing Wing" GB a while ago.

Most expensive is the Tamiya 1/12 Ferrari Enzo.  Hell of a kit though...

Now I remember that one. Good to see you back, where you been hiding.

1/25 Revell (GmbH) Peterbilt Fire Truck....Household-6 got it for me 15+yrs ago as a Christmas present.  About every 4-5yrs she asks when I'm going to build it...I tell her when my skills improved.Huh?

Hi Bish,

I have no excuse for my absence other than that sometimes "life intervenes".  I've built a few kits in the interim, most notably the Enzo that I mentioned.  Been thinking about scanning the GB pages to join in again.  Always did enjoy those group efforts.  How have things been with you?

Grey Snake,

Go ahead and give it a go.  Half the challenge is finding a table large enough to build it on!  :)   There were 3 or 4 of these built in the Swing Wing GB that occurred ~ 2years ago.  Check the archives if you're interested.

Life does that at times doesn't it. Things have been good for me, the modelling has picked up since I join civilian ranks. The forum has had a bit of a change, there are lots of new faces and a few of the old gang are missing. We had a little hiccup late last year, I thought that was the reason for your absence, but when I looked I realised that was after you went AWOl.

But things have picked back up now. Plenty of GB's going on, I am sure you will find something.

At this moment in time, my largest kit, physically, would have to be kind of a toss-up between my 1/96 Revell Saturn V, my AMT XB-70A Valkyrie and my two 1/350 starship Enterprises (TOS and refit). Those are all about to be diminished when my 1/72 Saturn V finally arrives, any day now :)

Most expensive kit, hands down, would be the 1/350 TOS Enterprise, because I also purchased the full accessory pack.

A civie now, eh?  Last I recall, you were off to the Falklands.  But I figured you must have found some free time, since it appears that you're currently running or co-running several GBs.  Anyway, welcome back to civilian life!

Also, I figured that there must have been another seismic event on the Forums since I don't see Mannstein and several of the other old timers posting any more.  So new blood comes in and the Forums move on; that's what occurred with the hiccup before the last.

I'll have a look through the current GBs to see what's going on; might have something suitable for the N. Africa build.

My wife bought me a Pocher 1930's Mercedes convertible in 1988. At the time they were going for £250 for a brand new one, but I still haven't finished it!

For a while the largest model in my stash was the 1/24 Bandai George that I got on Ebay, factory sealed for peanuts but it lost it's place to the Revell of Germany Type IX/C in 1/72 which is about 45" long.

I know earlier in this thread, I reported having the 1/72 Dora, Flowerclass Corvette reissue, and the 1/72 uboat as my biggest and most expensive kits.

But now, as Santa Clause has managed to find the house a couple of days earlier, the most expensive kit has to be the 1/35 Vosper MTB sitting in my stash, with the addition  (added as of yesterday) of the big Griffon set of photoetch for it (huge kit of etch!) and I still want to crew this boat yet, so this easily takes the position as the most expensive kit.

Largest and most expensive Trumpeter's full interior Tiger II 1/16 scale.

My longest (and up till I got the KT) biggest and most expensive is/was Tamiya's original 1/350 Yamato.

What do you make of that Griffon PE set. I got the Revell S-100 the other week and was looking at the full Griffon set. But at over £100 is damn expensive. I was thinking about maybe getting the White Ensign set instead. I am just trying to work out if all that extra cost is worth it.

I am happy with it, it is a huge set. I had bought the Italeri 1/35 Schnell boat earlier, and the matching Big ED  kit for it, and was pining for the Vosper to match with that. No sooner got the Vosper, and saw rumors of the Griffon set for it, and it moved to the top of the must have list for me.

The whole kit comes in in a box about the size of a vhs tape, and weighs about a pound or so, there must be about 2 dozen separate frets, with extra wire, rod, and resin parts (honestly I opened the pack when it arrived and though "oh crap, what have I done now") at 170 dollars it was not cheap. But with this and the Schnell I plan to take my time with and do the best I can on them. So they will be put aside while I re-hone my modeling skills on less expensive kits first.

So is it worth it, for me yes. For someone else, they would probably be more inclined to add to their regular stash or tool collection, but  over the years I amassed a great selection of tools and I have a healthy stash already of about 40 kits. But I splurged on the Schnell and Vosper, as those have that "show stopper" appeal to me.

Largest right now is my Anigrand Star Destroyer at 28 inches and $298. Soon it will be surpassed by my Christmas present to myself, the Salzo TOS Battlestar Galactica at 37.5 inches long and almost twice the cost of the SD.

The biggest kit for me has been Revell's 1/72 Gato submarine. My smallest has been Trumpeter's 1/350 SS John W. Brown Liberty Ship, which my eyesight was really challenged! My current build, 1/96 USS Constitution, will probably be my most expensive build since I have already purchased upgrades such as eyelets, barrels, better quality threading, wooden deck and I'm sure there will be other items!

The most expensive one I have is the 1/35 Hobby Boss SS-23 Spider.

The biggest has is either the 1/35 Dragon Scud kit or the 1/35 Academy UH-60 Blackhawk.  I thought about motorizing the rotor on the Blackhawk; but I can just see it sitting on a table at a model show and some little kid sticking his fingers in it...blades going everywhere taking out other models nearby.  Boo Hoo

My largest and most expensive kit is now this-

Mike Salzo 37.5 inch resin Battlestar Galactica model. Over 3 feet long, nearly two feet wide, tips the scales at just over 19 pounds, With the ammount of detail on this it was worth the five bills.

A pal o' mine bought me a gigantic C-57D starship model from Forbidden Planet a couple of years ago, The box alone is so big I had trouble finding a place for it. Comes with the entire crew as well as the Monster from the Id, which is molded from clear plastic and would be fun to light from underneath. That's if I ever get around to building the monstrosity, which is so daunting I tremble at the very thought. I got him back, though, by getting him a 1/350 TOS Enterprise last Xmas. Serves him right. :-)

Right now it's a 1/48 Ju-88 A-4 which is going to be built as a D because the markings it came with are for a long range recon version based in Norway.

Considering that I'm finding myself wanting to build medium WWII era bombers, I'm hoping to have some bigger ones soon. Also would love to build the 1/350 UUS Enterprise (carrier, not TOS). I've wanted that model for years. I just don't have room to build it let alone display it when it's done.
