Am I facing more problems with the flaking on the canopy?

I had dipped the canopy in future.   Then masked, and then applied future over the masks.  Applied the paint.  Then used my blade to cut free the masks and welcome flakes and problems.

Overspray happens Chris!! As mentioned before, mask the good areas & over-spray with the white. A little shadowing showing through is just shading, right? ;)  And I almost always have something to touch up on canopies, likely one of the things that slows me to a crawl as I get into that "95% done" zone. Looking really good overall though!

Chris, when this has happened to me, the only remedy I've found is just to remask, and reapply the paint.  You can cut very thin strips of masking tape, and outline the problem area, then use bigger pieces until you've got everything else protected.  Then respray with your airbrush.

This kind of set-back is demoralizing, I know.  It's happened to me more than once--doing, and re-doing, and re-doing the re-doing.

don't feel alone. i usually get the "this is crap" around 80% done on a build. unfortuantely right now i have 5 going in 4 GBs and 3 of them are crap to the point i didn't even look at them yesterday.

I would touch up the canopy with a 5 or 10/0 brush.

I'm not very happy with the arrow to date.

The masking for the canopy has flaked apart, and apparently when I applied the black paint I missed the masking in several areas including the wings.  You can even see where I noticed on the wings that I missed with the mask, added more tape to try an make sure I didn't compound the problem but now the problem area is bigger.

I don't know what I'm going to do about the canopy, I just hope a shot of white paint will go on over the black mist on the wings

have the hull finished.  I'm going to take a Typhoon break before getting started on the turret.

Yes, that is the "Canadian Red Ensign" which was carried (and of course displayed everywhere) before the current maple leaf.

Cdn Colin, shivinigh, thanks for the links. I'll check them out before I hit the 2nd Sabre. I hadn't really intended to start the first one so soon, I kind of got ahead of myself but was on a good roll, so I winged it a little. ;)

I'd rather see money go into recruiting new troops for the reserves but that's just me.

Alright, my quick photo search has shown me a couple of things.

1- camouflaged Sabres seen to have the underside roundels FREQUENTLY, but not all the time. Think I'll be using them here.

2- I haven't actually come across pics ( yet ) of an RCAF Sabre carrying the sidewinders?? Odd. I think I'll leave them off the 2nd Sabre.

Won't be using ALL the stencils, some are silvering, and most are TINY!! Will need to add the wing-walk stripes from the kit decals though as they seem to sync up exactly with the raised panel lines.

I seem to have picked up some sort of "dusting" effect on the tail markings. Microsol reacting with un-cured Future??

Had it happen once before on the all-black P38 night fighter, added a little more Sol & if disappeared. Crossing my fingers...

Underside was brush-painted Vallejo, topside was masked with poster-tac and airbrushed Tamiya acrylics.

Today's update:

Pardon the sloppy iPod picture, BUT, several coats of Future are down, decals started. Trying to decide how many of the stencils I'll bu using. The Leading Edge sheet is pretty comprehensive. Still need to verify if these Sabres carried sidewinders. The underside. Instructions show NONE, but include six??

nice. i use MMA, PolyScale, and Tamiya interchangeably. just finished a big ship hull in enamels (brush painting instead of airbrushing) and now i know why i use acrylics for most stuff.

don't forget to touch up the air intakes. speaking from experience i forgot to weather half a turret and didn't realize it until i took some pictures.

Tony, the plastic may be hard - but I had very little in the way of fit issues. Everything is basic compared to new-tool kits of course, but the fit is spot-on.

The camo on both the F-5 and Sabre looks very good. Good work.

Vance - I've always found the plastic to be very hard on those early Hasegawa kits, so I'm amazed at your progress.

Thanks! The gray is a little more blue than I would have liked, but it still has a good contrast with the green.

Sorry I've been a little MIA lately.

But the builds are coming along great.

Except the Arrow, I'm sad to say its still white, and that's it.  Once I get caught up in the forum then I hope to do a bit over the next couple days I finally have off.
