Seems we skiped spring all together and went from winter directly into a very hot very dry summer!

Temps hang around the mid to high 30's with no rain for quite a while now, city's water supply is running below 40% ....interesting tomes ahead!

Wow, screwy weather. We are just getting into cooler weather.

Theuns

Hi all. My progress on my 1/32 P-51d has just about come to a standstill  :-(

I don't know what it is lately but my motivation to build this modek has just dissapeared....maybe related to work stress - who knows.

Hopefully I wil be able to get stuck into it soon as I need to be completed by end of jan for the MOY.

I am starting to tink this deadline I set for myself , and this being an intence build is what is affecting my build "need"

Maybe it is time for a quick "shake and bake" kit that is a no brainer LOL.

Theuns

usually when this happens to me i use the time to clean up and organize my work area. Having a clean work area usually does the trick...

The work area is actually clean, the model components are in the box packed away...I just can't find the moejoe to sit down for a few hours and build something.

For those of you, like me, who want to detail their Packard Merlin's, here are some pics I took this morning.
Top of engine showing ignition harness from the right magneto.

Left side harness from the left mag.

Right side harness from the left mag.

Supercharger.

Carborator.

Front case with gear reduction.

Cutaway of the RR Merlin, a little diffrent, but not by much.

That is one good looking engine there Steve!

I have forced myself to do a little work on the Mustprang and have the basic cockpit floor assembly completed, I just added wire harnass to the radio stack. The pic is not very good, the light here is extremely bright.

I just saw now the guy who gave me the kit for this 1/32 P-51 did not install the nut on the inside rear bottom of the engine. Now I do not have a way to attach the engine with a bolt to the firewall....any ideas?

This is my second kit I'm building of the same exact model.  IMHO, some CA will definately do the job.  Once the piece is inserted into the fuesalage, there will be no structural engineering integrity at all.  It will be solid.  I hope this helps.

Cross your fingers, there is no going back to this.  Here is the Merlin AB with Vallejo Silver 70.997, I also incorporated Vallejo Airbrush Thinner 71.261, a drop of Dawn Dish Soap, then sealed with Testore Lacquer Gloss Coat 1261 to match the exterior silver plating of the P-51D.

Next up is the cockpit.

Thanks Toshi,

It's just some pieces of solder and 30ga wire. Does wonders. Your engine is looking good as well Yes

Theuns,

Is that what the nut in the supercharger is for? Hmm I would go with Toshi's idea with the CA.

Now moving on to the next step, I have spruce D of which consists of the majority of the cockpit.  This will also be AB primed of which you see here, AB Silver, and then with Testors Gloss Lacquer coat.  Paints and codes will be repeated unless otherwise stated.  thank you for the time and patience.

Man, this is such a great kit. Bravo Tamiya!!
Like I said, I usually lean toward the inexpensive side on kits, simply because dropping $100+ on a kit kills me financially. So it either has to be my birthday or christmas. Then I get cash and want to spread my gift money as far as I can. I sold some stuff on eBay and the 51 is my wife’s favorite plane so I could get away with it.... this time.

I was like a kid on Christmas breaking into this kit.

Congratulations ModelCrazy!!  That's very cool.  For my birthday Mrs. Toshi bought me a Iwata NEO Trigger Gun Airbrush Gravity Feed TRN-1.  I love how it allows you to get better control as it's very ergonomic.  I guess we both scored!

I've been wanting that engine since I saw Bish build his DB 605 for the Me-109 build.

Steve, your engine is looking amazing and many thanks for posting the photos of the prototype.

Theuns, your cockpit looks great. I wouldn't worry about the lack of motivation; we all hit a slump sometimes. It's a hobby, it should be fun and not a chore. Build when it suits you.

Best to all,
Larry

Speaking of building...

I've made a little progress on my Accurate Miniatures P-51B. I finished the cockpit and closed up the fuselage. Love the Aires P-51B cockpit set! I also decided to try something new on this model: I want to drop the flaps. I have a pair of the UltraCast flaps that were meant for the Tamiya kit. That meant modifying the AM wings to replicate the Tamiya mounting system. I think it worked out OK. Quick question, though: part of the inside of the wing and the leading edge of the flap will be visible. What color were those parts?

Hi Larry,

I am in the same boat with you having a Hasegawa kit. I too have bought the ultracast flaps (waiting for them to arrive). In the meantime I went ahead an bought the book "Building the P-51 Mustang" by Michael O'Leary to help me out. According to the book, the interior of the wings were bare metal. Hope that helps.

Best Regards,

George

Larry,  George is correct.  NMF on the leading edge of the flaps and usually  aluminum inside the wings interior at the flaps pockets.

Looking sweet Rick.

Toshi, that is some small stuff. Looking at my instructions the belts look pretty involved.  Too bad they aren't fabric though.

Yes, it is.  Plus unlike Eduard PE which is brass, Tamiya PE is nickel plated steel, very hard to work with.
