i haven't been over here in quite a while. i've started the carraige for the K-5 but it's on hold until i get a good block of focus. the SCUD is ready to decal, wash and weather, and add a base. apologies if i already posted these pics. PS the LAV took a first in local contest 1/72 wheeled armor.

the atomic cannon is ready to prime. i will prime and paint in syb assys because there too many nooks and crannies to get into. looking like color modulation between the tracrors, carraige and gun

No worries Wayne, the GB still has until April 15. You have been a busy man. Nice looking builds there. Is the Scud done?

Oops,  I just need to read.

speaking of artillery i just picked up the Trumpeter 9A52-2 SMERCH MRL. 930 parts. $85 USD less than the Meng version due out soon. between that and SA-8 plus stash i have plenty of soviet/russian warwheels.

Well, what the heck. As long as I am going to build the K5 in the RRGB, I may as well build it for here as well. So here it is. Cute little thing with wee little people. I actually bought the kit for the figures to modify and join the Kriegsmarine U-boat force and sail on my 1/144 Type VII. The K5 kit is less expensive that purchasing figures believe it or not. Anyway I will be starting it on Tuesday.

An update on my diorama. The watchtower is in and I've trimmed out the base board. I'm working on figures and finishing up the main gun and that should be it. There should be 4-5 figures in different areas mostly guards and maintenance personnnel.

As a complete novice, would the QF-25 Pdr work for this?

Terry: Coming along great!

Steve: Pretty cool, I suspect she's long even in 1/144th, close to as long as the U-Boat even?

Hi Jay, and again welcome to the forums. Sorry about the posting delay problems, I just saw this post.

Yes, the QF-25 Pdr would work fine. Would you like to join in? Let me know my friend and any questions you have. We can get through this posting delay mess.

Yeah i think i would like to join, i just started the Tamiya Ford Quad + 25Pdr combo. Only thing ive done so far is the wheels on the truck since im just getting my "work" area all set up. Having looked at all the other builds on here, its a bit intimidating for a novice but ill do my best!

Great, glad to have you aboard Jay. Don't let anyone's build intimidate you although I certainly know how you feel.
I'll get you down on the roster, and just post progress pictures when you feel you’re ready. I will look of the kit and box art to put on the roster. I assume this is 1/35?

Yes that's correct, it's the 1/35 Tamiya 25Pdr and Ford Artillery Tractor. Any suggestions on resources for British Camos for the North African Campaign?

No I don't know of any, you may have to Google it, however you can also post that question in the Armor forum and sit back as watch the answers come in.

Jay: I like it! I've looked at that kit for years but somehow never got around to buying one. And I thought my gun was big until the guys brought in these giant railroad guns and SCUDs so don't feel intimidated! Surprise

Haha thanks. It's not as much about size, but quality that intimidates. Haven't done a model in years since I was younger and didn't have much patience then. This will be my first with using an airbrush and PE parts.

No worries Jay. As for my entries, I know how to take a picture to make them look good.

Well since now i am going to do QF 25Pdr as well as the truck, i went ahead and ordered the PE set for it, was only $10 shipped. In the mean time i've been working on the Ford Artillery Tractor to go with. Going to post a couple pictures, the tires didnt turn out the way i wanted, going to have to find a way to mask it better.

I typically don't mask tires myself. I hand paint them with Grimy Black acrylic. I found that to be a close match to tire black IMHO.  After weathering with an oil wash with black and then dusting with brown pastels they turn out pretty nice.

Thanks for the tips, ill look into that. Haven't tried any type of weathering so far in my experience.

i don't mask tires either. i prime and airbrush or brush paint the hubs. i brush paint the tires MMA engine gray and wash them with burnt umber or black oils when i do the hubs.  if they are rubber tires i "paint" a heavy MMA engine gray wash to tone the black down. as MC said after weathering with powders they look great.

Searchlight is painted and installed. I stuck the battery and switch to the tower floor and covered it with a piece of netting for now. I think I'll keep it b ut I need to comactit a bit.

It's throwing off more light in the dark than I thought.

You should try that Dragon 1/144 K5 that I'm starting tonight. That should be small enough.
