Gamera
It's just something about the squared off wingtips and tail that makes the whole thing look angular and boxy to me.

That's because it is. Good eye Wink
That's the same reason I don't care for the Hellcat or, shame on me, the Fw-190. Their tail just doesn’t look right to me.

I think the Mustang looks fine with the square wingtips.  Now when the Spitfire appeared with the squared off wing tips, that just did not look right.

As for the engine in the P-51, that would be the Rolls Royce Merlin, which also produced engines for  the Spitfire models.

I guess Bish is a bit more patient with me, and did not seem to mind when I intially had  thought of doing a Seafire, which is just a naval version of the Spitfire. Stick out tongue

Jack

Bish,

I'm going to change my entry. Not sure what it's going to be now but I'm thinning my stash and the Pershing was the first to sell.
I will update when I find something...There's just so much to choose from.

Steve, not a problem. Shame to not see the Pershing, but these things have to be done. Just let me know once you decide and I will change it.

Dammit Bish, if you don't do the Coelian, then I will, in 1/48 ! I'll vote for you to do the Coelian though :)

Cheers

Meh, the P-51's alright I guess. Yet it doesn't come any where near to matching the sheer beauty, elegance and elan of an F4U Corsair. Enjoy:

I would like to jump in with my Tamiya 1/48 Do-335, will be converting it to the B-1 (heavy armament) varient, and will go with a late war camo pattern.

<Matt

Matt, is that an AM conversion set for that kit. I have seen it converted into a 2 seater before, but not the B-1.

Bish, it is the CMK resin kit.  Will post some pics once the build starts.  Think that I am going to open up both engine bays as well.

I think that I bought it a couple of years ago and was supposed to build the 335 for another GB.  Never got it done though, so this is attempt number two for this kit.

That was the one.  Thought that I would have the time before going overseas, but didnt.  Should be easier to make the time this year, no long trips scheduled.

Bish,

One thought I had was a Bell 47D, but the 47a was available in 46, which looks somewhat different than the D. I may go with a B-29 or even a DC-3 or DC-4.
Still deciding.

I'm in. Planning on kit bashing a 1/48 B-29 into a Me 264. Lone Star models had a resin kit of this plane but it is now out of production and was wayyy expensive. The B-29 and Me 264 were very similar looking aircraft. I have the Monogram B-29 and have been looking for Ju 88 kits to get the engines from. Need some inexpensive ones since I only need the engines and props. I may cast resin ones if I can't find some cheap kits.

Now that sounds ambitious. I am surprised there is not a 48th plastic kit of the 264. Will look forward to seeing this one.

Welcome aboard.

Wel, if the GB carries one like this once it starts, it should be a good one. We have 10 pages already and there is still 2 weeks to go before kick off. Thanks for all the imput and enthusiasm guys.

And on that note, the current vote for my armour build stands at

E-100 Jagd 4

E-10 3

E-75 and Coelian 1 each and still none for the Lowe. So as it stands, i will be building the monster of an E-100 Jagdpanzer.

Hi Bish. I have a question: I have decided to do a 'never left the drawing board' version of the Me 264 , is that acceptable?

Bish,
I think I have narrowed it down to the 1/72 Martin PBM Mariner (which I received for Christmas) or a Nakajima Ki-84 Hayate of some scale. The PBM was used until the mid 50’s and The Ki-84 would surly have been in service into 46.
Let me know if either of these would be acceptable

Ok all, we have 3 full days before this kicks off, i know with you bunch it will be a good one. I will be kicking off on day one with the Arado, first job will be to modify the bomb bay and add an entry hatch underneath. As for my second build, looks like i am doing the E-100 jagd. I guess i better get planning a dio for that beast.
