Gentleman,

I dug out the Type 4, and didn't realize how many 1946 subjects I actually have!

I have two other kits I want to finish, but, I think I will start this one soon after the new year.

I'm really looking forward to the WIP picture from everyone!

Bish, sorry to keep changing my mind here, I'm typically pretty decisive. I received some gift cards for Christmas and I'm going to order something I think you would appreciate.

The DKM Prinz Eugen cruiser.  She was a war prize in 45 and was used in the atomic bomb test at Bikini twice and can still be dived on. If its OK with you I think this is my final decision. The Prinz Eugen would probably have survived into 46 had the war continued.

Steve, thats fine. I did mention the Eugen in my write up. She would work either way, as a what if or as she was during the bomb test. Which kit is it your building.

Also Bish, put me down for a Tamiya 1:35 scale Nashon 8.8cm Pak43/1 (Sd.kfz.164). This will also be a dio.

I did mention the Eugen in my write up.

Oops, yes you did, sorry.
It will be the Trumpeter 1/350 with the Pontos wood deck AM. The kit comes with PE and the reviews are pretty good. Another cruiser this year for your build like the Indy. She will be in the water at Bikini awaiting the nuke test.
The kit is designed as she was in 45 when she was taken as a war prize. The dementions were taken from the US Navy after her capture so se will look like she did at Bikini.

Looking forward to seeing that. I have just ordred the Revell 350 Bismarck and was thinking it would be nice to get the Eugen as well. I am sure there will be some inof out there to back date it to 1941.

Despite this sad end, i was hoping someone would do the Eugen. have you added to roster and not going to allw you to change it now. Whistling

Good man. Keep me honest, besides my wife will see to it that I finish it since it was she who purchased it...in a roundabout way.

That always a good incentive. My other half is always asking me when i am building the kits she got me.

I just found a review on tha kit which says its easier to back date it to 1941 than it is to make a 1941 kit into how it looked in 45. So a good move by Trump there.

Hi Bish. I have a question: I have decided to do a 'never left the drawing board' version of the Me 264 , is that acceptable?

hey RED what model is this? i have the Special Hobby one but need to reinforcer the wing roots to hold the wings on.

Bish,

The Luft 46 and the Paper Panzer are two great builds. I have had my eye on a Paper Panzer for a couple of months now.

I'm looking around for aftermarket stuff on ScaleMates, and I noticed something weird. All the other kits and aftermarket barrels of the 12.8 have a different shape from the one used in Trumpeter kits. Notice that the Voyager aftermarket barrel and the GWH set have an extra "step" in them, while the Trumpeter barrel (bottom-most pic) does not have the extra "step":

I suppose maybe the GWH gun is a different variant?

Moff, i am pretty certain its the same gun, should both be the L/55. My guess, Trump got it wrong. But, of course, this is a what if, it could be a newer version of the gun.

If those are the L/55 variant, what's the L/61?

FYI, I have basically the same conversation going in my Gun Designations thread, if you just want to post there.

Moff, ye i saw that thread. But just to keep it simple, the 12.8cm L/61 was the gun fitted to the Sturer Emil. I am pretty certain the gun on the vehcile you are building was the L/55. As it mentions in the other thread, the L/61 was just longer than the L/55.

Oh, ok. All the photos of the Jagdtiger barrel (and aftermarket L/55 Jagdtiger barrels) I had seen looked way shorter, though I guess that's because of the enormous mantlet and superstructure.

I could have sworn the Emil had the same muzzle brake as the Waffentrager, but after looking online I guess not.

As you can tell, I'm not very good at historical researchStick out tongue

Don't worry, anything to do with Germany in WW2 often leads to a lot of confusion. I have ben studying it for the best part of 30 years and i still get baffeled.

Also note that on the Jagdtiger, there is no muzzle brake, so that will make it slightly shorter. And of course, much of the gun is inside the vehcile, unlike on the towed pak gun or the Waffentrager.

Thanks for all your help! The Germans seemed to have made everything so organized it's confusing.

I still don't know what's up with the difference in barrel shape between the Trumpeter kits and  all the other kits. Hopefully nothing important.

I had to look hard to see the differance, but i have not found any proper reviews as this are usualy really helpful. And welcome to the world of German armour. prepare to have your brain scramebeled.

I think what most people are seeing is the inside of their eyelids.  Cool

On the other hand, I have been working on some plastic, but not for this group build unfortunately.  Want to see pictures of a Mossie? Drinks

I'm sure the members will soon be stumbling to their benches, if they can get out of the bathroom first!  Big Smile
