I see what you’re saying. Hmm, I need to do some research on the tower. I need to take a look at my U-boats in action although it doesn’t cover the type IX very much.....and I may need to change which boat I build, although not the 505.

Ok, problem is, as i understand it, the deck gun was removed at a certain stage. So really it isn't missing from the kit as the boat as portrayed didn't have it.I believe the deck guns were removed in 1943, but i can't find when the later type of tower that the Revell kit has was fitted.

I was thinking of getting that gun, but for the type IX i want to build, i know i need an earlier tower for the one in the kit.

Bish,

The Eduard AM was designed for the Revell kit.

"The Eduard Brassin German Submarine 10.5cm gun kit, model 672053, is the answer to the missing deck gun in the Revell #80-5114 kit especially for those looking to create alternative depictions of the Type IX U-boat. This Brassin kit consists of cast resin and photo etch parts which, when constructed, will provide a viable option to the wanting modeler."

Nice start on the sale Crown, Just keep under 10% started.
Three more days!! HA! I hear the U-boat calling. I’m going to order the Eduard 10.5 cm deck gun to convert the U-505 into the U-527. I wanted something different. The U-527 had an unremarkable carrier but better than some. I was debating between the 527 and the 557..why? well, reasons. I like the shield on the 557 and the wife likes the shield on the 527, so I do the 527, again, reasons.

Anyway for those of you who may be interested, here is the link to the 527 page.

HF-  The first two were on the small pond ( U99 and the pounding she took before her loss, and the early attacks on the US east coast).

This Sunday they move to the Pacific and US boats, that is what I've been waiting for.

So far I like what I've seen, but wondering how long the series is.

For those with Smithsonian Channel, they are starting a new program on July 17th @ 9:00 PM (eastern).  Called "Hell Below" it is on subs.  Looks to start in the Atlantic on the trailer I've seen up to now.  Just in time for us here.

Hey, GH, I've taped 2 of the Hell Below shows, however, I haven't stopped to see one yet. Have you seen one, and if so, How did you like it?

You got it MailDude. Good to see you again!

BTW There's a new badge added to the badge seletion. A Gato, or what looks like a Gato/Balo except for the conning tower, in a mine field.

modelcrazy, please add me with this old Renwal Products Inc. 1:200th Thomas Jefferson.

Backstory on this: I found this while we were cleaning out my grandmothers house after her passing. My father remembers getting it when he was in his late teens, maybe very early 20s. He went on to serve 4 years in the Navy, some of which he was on the USS James Monroe (same class as this sub)in the early 70's. He recalls building the Renwal kit of the Monroe. My intention is to build this and present it to him when complete!

You got it armornut. GB's are easy. No pressure, just enjoy yourself. Like I said in the rules, this is not a contest.

Well since Gold hammer helped me figure out how to post pix, I guess the next logical step is to get involved in a group build. Sign me up for a 1/350 Hobby boss Typhoon as well. That kit is way more accurate than the old Dragon one I have awaiting decals. Man I can't believe I'm doing this.
