Toshi, those Merlins look amazing and you havent' even started painting yet. And keep those tiny magnets bagged until you're ready to glue 'em in! Stick out tongue

Steve, your Zero is just great. Chipping is convincing and it is simply an overall neat model. Also, a unique addition to our GB. Good luck at the show indeed. YesYes

Beav, you're coming right along.

Bossman, as Toshi said, nice job on the save. I wonder if I've grown up enough to deal well with an important lost part like that yet? Confused (I hope not to find out anytime soon)

Armor, your chassis is looking fine.

To to my fellow forum members,

Believe it or not, there's still some twenty more or so parts needed to complete the Merlin engines.  The other parts are to be installed after they go into the engine mounts of which is a whole affair in itself.  So far, I've got them partly weathered and there are a few more things I'd like to do with the Merlins prior to installing them into the engine mounts.

There are twelve steps or three pages full of directions that are very interesting at best.  These I will document per each step with the assembly process for whomever can utilize them in the future.  Thank you so very much forum members for visiting my Mosquito thread!

Toshi

P.S.  Just a FYI, the bottom engine looks more black than the top one does.  This is just due to lighting.  I'll take better photos later.  Please except my apologies on such poor quality photographs.

An active GB for sure !

Toshi - those Merlins have a lot of nice detail.  I'm sure they'll add alot to the final impression of this model.

Scott - that wood grain looks very convincing.  Nice to see a biplane added to the mix.

Check - Nice job on that Hampden tail.  Cool bonus that you were able to get it together and still have it be poseable.  Looking forward to seeing what you can do with this airfix kit - I might try it if I can find one.

Steve - What an awesome Zero.  Love the chipping and the uniqueness of the subject.  Great duplication of the reference photo.

Tony - "She who spews forth flames" is looking really good.  The PE harness is a nicely detailed touch and the IP looks great.

Castel - Great cockpit cage on that Harvard.

DasBeav
The interior is quite bland and will require some scratchbuilding which wouldn't be so bad IF I HAD EVER DONE IT BEFORE!!! I have purchased some basic Odds and Ends styrene and have been practicing my sprue stretching.

Beave - nice work so far man.  I have no doubt that your scratch building will easily make additions and changes to the kit parts that will be a significant improvement.  I was surprised when I found out how easy it was to just cut styrene card and rod stock into shape and get nice results that added to the detail.  Don't hesitate to try anything !  Boldly model where no injection molded parts have gone before !

Armor - That refueler looks nice - and like Bish's diorama - I'm sure you'll be able to create a cool "moment in time & place" with the different models.

Greg - When you gonna jump in ?   There's this really nice Beau calling your name . . .

Well, I got over the hump of "the lost part".  Sometimes things like that cause me to shelve a model for a while, but it was simply the next thing to be done before I could progress - so I bit the bullet.

Here she is in a bad cell phone shot:

Nice interesting work All !

Thanks, Bish.  Yes, that's all of them.  Actually, I think I'll try to post another one, see if I can get this right.  Making progress on my Albion refueler, working on the engine and drive train, albeit with major fit issues!  The drive shaft, which is supposed to connect to the differential and another piece of the drive train, was about 2.5 mm too short.  So I had to drill into it, stretch and cut a piece of sprue, and add it to the drive shaft to make up the shortage.  Sad

On another note, thanks, that was a fuel cart and an accumulator trolley, both packaged in a box from Pro Modeller, but I've since bought an Airfix kit with the exact same pieces, so maybe it was orignally Airfix?

Right, a fuel cart, thank you. I have some 72nd German ground equipment which includes an oil cart, so i thought that was somthing similar. But not seen one of those RAF ones is 72nd.

Glad to see you got the pics sorted, nice work on the Albion.

Toshi, Bish, Jack, BK, Greg, Bossman thanks, it seems to be a big hit.

Toshi, those Merlins are looking great. I don't think I did as well on my 1/8 scale Merlin.

Bish, I'm back to fire spitting subject now that I have my beautiful airbrush back.

I saw an older British made program on YouTube yesterday on just that subject....insperation you know. Anyway, it had Douglas Bader on it. I see your point on the British point of view on it. They made it sound like the eliptical wing thing won the war by itself, all other planes were targets.

I still think its a beauty though.

Chris... Nice recovery! I work in garage so I have the dreaded concrete creature that get my dropped pieces. I have picked it an apron from a local dollar store, stapled the lower hem area to the underside of my bench, so now I'm able to catch most all dropped parts... If I'm wearing it , that is!

Steve, great finish! Like the unusual builds!

Toshi, amazing as always! Keep up the good work...going to be an awesome build!

Thanks guys . . .  "recovery" seems to be a common theme among my last few builds - usually recovering from bonehead mistakes.   It's just a hobby Chris - just a hobby.

Thanks Doug - I usually model in my basement - so I hear ya.  Rough concrete floor with a few rugs in places.  So there are some corners of endless abyss, carpet monsters, concrete gremlins, decoy pieces of sprue and wood chips that decieve me - and then laugh in my face and say "Ha ! You silly styrene clipper.  I'm not the part you're looking for".

That apron idea sounds like a great defense to face the forces arrayed against me.  They're ruthless I tell ya !

I’m done with the Zero. I worked until I was done. Even though this started out as a bad paint job I think it turned out well. I believe I’m taking this to the Sep contest.

Hey Steve that paint job came out great! Very unique markings and it makes for a very interesting build. Very well done!

Thanks for the encouragement Greg and Bossman. I also had a concrete floor in the basement. Parts bounce farther than you'd think. I got a really short pile dark blue carpet with alittle trepidation IE "carpet monster". Might be my most important modelling purchase! Haven't come close to losing a part!

Bossman:  nice fix; very effective

Das Beav:  looks like quite a project; good work on the cockpit and added bits

mc:  extraordinary Zero!  looks all scruffy and great

AA:  a very interesting build; been thinking of adding some ground equipment so will be instructive to watch your build

Toshi:  highly effective weathering on the engines; very realistic

Great work on the Zeke MC, I think it will do very well in September. I think it looks realistic, the ultimate test in my opinion. Just one question, do you know what the letters ATAIU stands for ? I'm guessing that SEA is South East Asia.

I've got a Hasegawa A6M-5 in my stash, and a set of RAAF decals for it, but that will be for another GB I guess. They'd make a good pair.

Cheers

Tony

I'm just taking it one GB at a time.

I'm still going on fixing the seams on my ICM 1/48 Spitfire VII. They're filled with a combination of plastic card, Tamiya putty, CA and Mr Surfacer 1000, depending on what was most most appropriate for each seam. I'll have to reinstate some surface detail once I'm done, but not too much. I've still got a bit to go on this phase though. I have another ICM Spitfire IXe in the stash, and it's been beckoning, I can't imagine why :)

Cheers

Chris, I did finally make up my mind. I'm holding off on the Beaufighter for right now and ordered something yesterday. If and when it gets here I plan on joining in. Thanks for checking in on me, that was nice of you!

Rigidrider

Doug, I've been wanting to try that for a couple years now. Maybe you'll be my incentive to go find an apron. The downside is first time the boss sees me wearing it and fastened to the bench, if she has any doubts left, she'll be assured I've finally lost my last marble.

Toshi, you know the drill with the engine mounts and next assemblies. Be careful and precise so everything fits later. Everything is looking good as usual.

Tony, looks like you're seams will be taken care of in no time. Never my favorite thing, doesn't seem to have fazed you.
