Geez it takes a lot of time to mask up the Catalina!! And I think I have the weighting problem resolved ... careful placement of fishing weights Smile [:)]

Hopefully close it up over the coming weekend, and get the airbrush cracking on the outside colour scheme!!

Brian, seems you have a pretty good excuse...err...I mean reason to put the Herc on the backburner, we'll let you get away with it...this time! Big Smile [:D]

Thank you for your kind understanding, sir! Wink [;)]

I ain't quittin', mind ya! Just back-burnering, that's all!

And of course, I'll still be checking in here on everyone's progress.

Brian, a poor excuse is better than mine Smile [:)]. I've got too many builds going at once & making only minimal progress. But I'll get there !

Shock [:O] Holy cow! things are looking great!

Model Grandpa, the Herc looks darn good! I saw 'The Aviator' on Saturday and I tried to take note of the coclpit colors. It looked like natural metal or silver.

Quagmyer, the Catfish looks like a beauty! The design has a surreal look to it.

Swanny, Igor would be proud!

John, your Felixstowe looks as complicated as the real one!

Frosty, you balancing your projects better than me!. Looks great.

Hi guys,

Can I join?
I'll make a 1/72 Spitfire Mk. IX Floatplane.

It's the 1/72 PM-models Sptfire Mk.V Floatplane mixed with the Revell Spitfire Mk.Vb...
Some kind of conversion, I'm going to use the PM spinner, prop, nose, tailrudder and floats...
And all the rest from the really nice and cheap Revell kit...

Greetz

PS: how can I get that logo that you guys use, in your signature, from this groupbuild?

Just figured out the whole pic posting thing and I wanted to show you my progress so far on my 1/72 Mach 2 Mariner. This is definitely my most challenging build to date. A ton of fit and flash problems. Most of my time has been spent sanding and filing.

cossack - Thanks, the kit is injection molded
Model Grandpa - Thanks. Now that my fiance bought a new digital camera posting more pics won't be a problem

Since fiting the halves together I am now filing all of the seams with putty and sanding them down. After that I'll fit the wings on and then fill the huge gaps that will cause between the wings and fuselage.

Rob,

The Mariner is looking good. The Mach 2 kit maybe giving you a workout but it looks like it's paying off.

Rob, any one who is willing to tackle a Mach 2 kit has to have some big ones. It's looking like you are making good progress but that nose turret looks a little odd, like it sets in too far.

I want my 'Mavis' crewed and I'm probably going to need modify model railroad figures. What railroad scale closely resembles 1/72?

Aurora-7:
British 00 scale is 1/76, about 4% size difference from 1/72...
closest scale, but hard 2 find in the US, u may have 2 go w/ HO scale (1/87) figures
in forced perspective mode... or start checking out UK model RR mags/sites.
good luck w/ ur search !

HO is 1/87? Think people would believe my Mavis was crewed by an Imperial Japanese basketball team?

Thanks Swanny, still trying to fix the nose turret which in my case is one of the most important parts as this is where my grandfathers station was. This kit sure is a pain, but a lot of fun.

They aren't as plentiful as HO, but S scale is about 1/64. Might be easier to make them shorter than taller. But do a search at Squadron or Great models, there are a surprizing number of 1/72 figures available that could be used or modified.

Looks really good, Frosty !!!!
If my Felixstowe were finsihed, it would feel menaced ....
I have always found the rudder on the W29 interesting -- one would think they would want it out of the spray, etc, area. I don't know if they did it this way for field of fire or something else.

Frosty,

I've never seen a WWI mono-wing floatplane! Much less a fighter version. It came out great. So know there'll be more time for the Tuskegee build, eh?

I only really need 2 crew figures for the tail turret and a waist blister window position since the kit came with 3 cockpit figures. The smaller scale would work for the tail turret and the larger one maybe better for being noticed in the waist blister.

Frostygirl excellent build, thanks for sharing. Big Smile [:D]

Gee I think I need to get my rump in gear here and start putting some time on my build. Just been swamped with other life issues lately and a miserable cold Yuck [yuck].

Cheers
