Hey Mike its made paper weight status already.Smile

Ben my paint booth vents out the window and that window is on the north side of the house. Its been so cold since Christmas I just didn't want to open it up and let that Arctic blast in here to finish painting the Brummbar.

Rough spots got the hammer laid on them Ben.Big Smile

Aaah gotcha,

We are having the coldest snap for years here in England at present. LOTS of snow (which is very rare over here these days) and also record lows of 20 below.

Brrrrrr!

The new build is looking stunning btw-the PE really sorts it out!

Marc I use "Sequin Pins" 1/2 inch long. $3.40 for 800 count box.

That's one of the main reasons I use Friuls Legs,I don't have to worry about the things falling apart on me.Yes When ever I do happen to do a green machine I hear they don't fit the bill to well but we'll cross that bridge when it gets here.Wink

Tony this one is really taking shape.

I've never used fruils but that will change soon. Nice tip on the pins. Did you have to drill out the tracks or did the fit right in?

Speaking of shape these two look like they may be relatedWink lol.

"HELP"

Now that the base coat is on, do I now just finish it as a normal gray scheme and then over-lay the white wash?????

"OR"

Work the white wash in as part of the paint job and then do my filters, washes and pigments to finish up?????

Thanks for your technique knowledge                                                                                                                  Tony "Dumb as a rock" Lee

Tony,

I think the best answer is "both". Big Smile It depends on how fresh you want the white wash to look of course...but ultimately if it were my build I would apply the white wash over the paint scheme and do the weathering, washes, etc. over the whitewash to prevent it from looking too stark in the end. Again, it all depends on how much of the whitewash you want to have left on the vehicle.

Being my first white wash I was hoping to have it turn out somewhere between this:

Tony, glad I saw this in time!

You should DEFINITELY go for a "hairspray technique" finish on this one for the whitewash! Her's what to do----

Finish your model in the gray scheme--weather it with washes, drybrushing, etc--but no pigments or anything like that YET. Then, seal it with dullcoat or Future---here's the key; if you want the hairspray to come off in bigger chunks, seal it with a gloss. If you want a little more resistance to the hairspray, and a rougher whitewash chipping, use a dull coat. The sheen of the sealer determines and affects how much ofthe next paint layer comes off.

Next, get some cheap hairspray., Give the model a GOOD cover with it. Hairspray tends to come out pretty heavy--it might skeer ya at first, but fear NOT (!) Mighty Lee! That's what you want!

Let dry completely for about 4 hours. Now, put a few small "squares" of tape down first---about 5mm square---as "masks:where you know that you will definitely want the whitewash "removed". This will be necessary to "get under the paint" with the next step. Next, take some acrylic white paint--doesn't matter which. Spray it in a sloppy coat, heavy here, lighter there, and cover the tank.

Now comes the fun part. Get a stiff, short-bristled brush, First, take a wide soft brush and wet one hull panel or side with a good swipe of regular water. Let it sit for a few minutes, Now, use the stiff brush to start scrubbing away the white layer, brushing away the tape squares. You will be able to degrade the white wash in an amazing fashion. Take a look at my MIG KT here for how I did it there.

/forums/t/106709.aspx?PageIndex=3

GO FOR IT, MAN! It will look great!  GOOD LUCK!!!

I've done some shading today. Now don't really think about the white wash that's going to be put over this but think of it as just a panzer gray paint job ok. This machine hasn't been sitting in the sun for years and years so in my way of thinking the paint wouldn't be oxidized all that much but is it light enough to still show up if the wash is not very dark?

Thanks for your opinions                                                                                                                                   Tony Lee

Looks like a good foundation to me Tony. The first batch of 24 SiG 33s were sent to Stalingrad as soon as they were built by Alkett so they weren't very old by the time winter had rolled around.

Even if you don't do the white wash, the grey will look good with the way you broke up the monochromatic paint job.

Cheers

Right back again but today I painted the details, muzzle cup, wood, tail lights etc. etc.

I guess I let this dry overnight and then tomorrow seal it up and apply the decals and then the hair spray.Smile

Nice base Tony... perfect for the steps to follow.

Keep in mind that the hairspray technique is not a "one pass" deal.  The initial removal of paint is really only the starting point for lots of brush work that comes next.

Let the fun begin!

Rick I kind of figured that. I never ran across an actual sbs tutorial on the process but from just looking at what I think are really convincing white wash camos it looked like there would be a lot of brush work to follow.

I'm not a real fan of white wash but I need one for the collection to at least say i've tried it.Smile.

Thanks for coming by to see me.
