Thanks for the welcome..
I do have a site, but it is a work in progress.. I have also moved house, so most of my stuff is in storage... Feel free to have a look.. I model alot of different subjects.. My Planes Album is somewhat bare, as it is the latest album that I have started working on, and havnt had a chance to get everything out and photographed.. I have also done the odd Aircraft carrier, am about to start my first Armour diorama of the Japanese Ground Defense Force in Iraq!

Well Bandha Boy, I actually went to school at Amberly State School.. So I grew up looking at Mirages and F-111.. Infact I think the Mirages were gone not long after!.. Living in Willowbank, I was used to having low flying F-111's going strait over my house... I ended up working as a contractor on the F-111's when I left High School...

As for my modeling.. I did an F-111 in the grey RAAF color scheme a few years ago. And as my skills have improved since building it.. I plan on stripping it down and completely re-doing it!.. My biggest fear is, that I dont want to remove the Australian RAAF decals, as I cant get them here in Japan.. I also have an F-18 that is waiting to be re-done, but again, no RAAF decals.. I live in the land of model kit manufacturers, and I cant get my hands on Australian decals. RAAF, Army or Navy.! Sad [:(]

I agree with most on the forum that the 26th of jan is a good start date for the gb. if it was a long gb that would also be good. W e would still probably leave it all to the last minute. Big Smile [:D]

It's good to see all the aussies caming out of the woodwork in this place. We may eventually take over the place. Wink [;)]

Another Aussie Group build?!! That's a good excuse for me to build a RAN A-4 skyhawk. Or maybe a S-2 Tracker (does anyone know of an S-2 kit in 1/48). or maybe a Neptune or sea fury...... all these things I'd like to build but never realised I wanted to. I'd like to build something that I used to watch flying as a little kid at airshows in Nowra (used to love those RNZAF skyhawks).

As big Kev would say..... I'M EXCITED!!!!!

Chris- You should be able to order Aussie decals over the web & get them sent over, give me a yell if you think it'll work out a lot better to send them to me & I can send them on. Try these sites:

Hawkeye make an awesome range of F/A-18A Hornet markings. I just got the Hawkeye Operation Falconer 1:72 Hornet set for a mate in the US and at AU$28, it is real value for money. Now I am getting a sheet for myself!

Hi again guys.. When I was back visiting family in Aus about 2 years ago. I actually bought some Aussie decals from Voglers in Ipswich.. ..I bought a set for my Hornet, and a set for my F-111.. They cost me $6-$7 a set. So although Hawkeye has a good range, they seem a little expensive at $15 and up for a set... Ad to that postage...

I know what you mean, but there is not much price difference really between Hawkeye and the big decal producers like Aeromaster, Cuttling Edge and Eagle Strike. The really expensive but very nice decals are the Model Alliance ones,. The Hawk sheets are over $30 each!

I have a few Hawkeye sets now and will get more, they have the best range of Aussie stuff currently on the market

Do the RAAF still only have F/A-18 A's & B's? Most of the kits around now are for the later versions & the F does look tastier, although I know we don't have those guys.

Mirage: I'm desparately trying to get some colour pics of Mirage IIIc cockpits & wheel wells, can't find the buggers anywhere. Anyone know of any reference sites with these? (I'm going to cast a wider net on this in the reference forum on this as well.)

Yes, the RAAF does only have the F/A-18A/B Hornets. With only minor work, you can convert a F-18C to a RAAF F/A-18A. There is a great article a Model Art Australia mag converting the recent 1:32 Academy f-18C to a RAAF Hornet. Minor mods are all that are needed.

I'm trying a little experiment. I need some heavily faded WWII Aussie markings, so I'm trying to do it the natural way. I've cut a couple out and left them on the widow sill in the sun to see what happens. It'll probably be a complete disaster, but what the heck. Might work! If not, then I guess I'm just going to have to paint them on! Whatever the end result I'll relay it on here eventually. I have an interesting photo of an airman on the wing repainting the blue outer on a roundel which has faded so badly as to almost just be a white disc!!

Hey guys.. Here is a curly one for you.... I have a few 747-400 models that I plan on rebuilding and re-doing in a new color scheme.. Now after living in the US, and having lived near Dobbins AFB in Marrietta (Atlanta) I had the great pleasure of getting to see Airforce One.. Then after a few years, I had thought about doing something similar for the Australian Government.. I saw somewhere that the Prime Minister now flies around in a 737.. Or does he still use the 707?.... Even Japan has an executive 747-400 that looks just amazing!

Anyways, what I am getting at is. . Have any of you thought about this subject?.. And if so, what would you like to see as a design for an Australian 747-400 Airforce One of soughts?... I am interested in hearing your thoughts, and if you are good at throwing pictures and designs together. I would be happy to see what you come up with!..

Tweety 1, If I can remember my RAAF History the first Aircraft the AFC ordered was a B.E. 2a. I think the intial order was for 2 Aircraft, plus a Bristol Boxkite.

Wayne I enjoy getting older, especially when I consider the alternative.

I never wanted to bring politics into it.. I am a big fan of Airliners and the like, and so as I live in Japan, we sometimes see the Japanese government 747-400, and as I stated before, I have also seen Airforce One.. Regardless of who's Prime Minister, President.. I feel that our leaders should fly to other countries in a plane that symbolises our nation... And not in a little business jet or a noisy 707.. But something that shows the world that we are proud and are happy to show it!.. Look how recognisable the Qantas Dreamtime 747's are!.. I was just curious as to what you guys would like to see if this was to be a reality, and we all had some sort of say in it?

Agree with you there Mike, I have the Op Falconer set in 1/48. I think it cost about $40 but it was worth it. I've got a Hasegawa 1/48 F/A-18A in the stash along with a true details cockpit just waiting for the urge to get going. I'm already doing a CA Meteor for the Aussie GB, but if I finish in time I might give a 3 Sdn Hornet a bash (to go with my 3 Sqn Mustang).

Chris, sorry for the political slant.
But as far as 747's, I dont think they will ever do one that actually symbolises Australia.
Yeah the Qantas Dreamtime looks ok to most, I personally think it's a bit tacky.

I'm kinda Ol' Skool, and have always, and will always, prefer the TAA and Ansett designs.
I'd like to see that on a 747 again any day!

just joking, in reality i think the Prime Minister whomever that may be should be flown around in a 747 that symbolises our nation, as far as a scheme goes i'm not really qualified to comment, airliners arn't really my thing, i like props and machine guns with the occassional jet thrown in like the CAC Sabre and the ME 262 My 2 cents [2c]
