good to see so many modellers here!!!
hey i got a question someone here might be able to help me with. has anyone here used the NUTECH(?not 100% sure, but its nu-something) 1.5 hp air compressor from BigW. it costs $88 dollars atm, has a 6lt tank(blue), and the motor is covered in plastic.
just wanna know if any of u other ozzies have used this compressor and whatdya think about it? theres a bigger one for only 10bucks more, but i just want a small one that i can use mainly for ab'ing, maybe one day do some small spraying of furniture with something like those automotive spray guns. and also can anyone here tell me how loud it is? a comparisson to something maybe?? they wouldnt let me turn it on in bigw
:(
thanks in advance!!1

tominator, First of all Sign - Welcome [#welcome] to the Aussie Modeller thread.

Second, I have also seen the type of compressor you are talking about at BigW, although I haven't used that brand of compressor I have a similar type under the brand name of "Arlec" there is also now a range of this type of compressor under various different brand names available. Most of them have regulators fitted that will allow work at pressures that suit airbrushes, it is also advisable to fit a separate moisture trap as these compressors aren't fitted with one. The connections on them are quick connect female air line types, you can usually obtain the fittings that you will required to set up in the same area as the compressor or from hardware stores. The compressors when operating can be noisy, mine is about the same as my wife's vacuum cleaner. The noise is only generated when the compressor is pumping up the pressure in the tank, once it reaches max pressure it turns off, then restarts when it reaches its low pressure setting. I can usually get up to 10 - 15 minutes airbrush time from a full tank. My tank is a 24ltre one, the larger the tank the more air it stores so if you are prepared to pay the extra $10 may be worth it.

Hope this helps.

hey u got me thinking...
if its got a bigger tank it has to run less often.... i probably will get the bigger one now, and 1/2 a HP more shoudnt make to much noise.....

Tweety - another P/E question for you. Do you clean the metal before use & if so, what with. I've seen some of theother forums recommending various alcohols which , I think, aren't available here under those names. Bit nervous about dropping it into the wrong stuff.

Another option is the DMC 1:5hp tank compressor from Bunnings Hardware (you eastern staters have Bunnngs over there?) It usually sells for $99. I am getting one shortly as it has two outlets, each with a regulator and guage. Beats the hell out of my Paache clunker.

cheers

Mike, yes we do have Bunnings over this side. Don't forget, if you don't already have one, to get a moisture trap as the regulators on these compressors aren't a moisture trap type.
Before I brought the Arlec compressor, I had a compressor that was so called designed for airbrush use, probably the same as your Paache. All I have to say is that I am glad that I brought the Arlec, its more versatile than the other, works better and cost me a lot less.

If I need to clean PE before use, I just give it a light rub over with a fine grade wet and dry paper before removing it from the etch. No worries about nasty chemicals then. Hope that helps.

Yeas, I was going to use my hoses and water trap from my Paache compressor.

Seems a bargain and I know of two modlellers using the GMC compressor and they love it!

Hi
I'm David from SW Sydney, and have been back modelling for a year or 2 now, not managed to come up to FSM standards but getting there slowly (thinking of air brush as painting is the bit I am least good at and leave until I have a pile to do!)

Main interest is flying boats then civilian aircraft (prop and pre WWII in the main) currently building the Heller Citroen DS19 1/16 kit (I stray when things trake me fancy, though cars I find a real challenge, this one in particular!) whilst I finish painting a Martin Marlin and work out which kit from the pile to do next!

Anyone know where can I buy FSM off the shelf in downtown Sydney?

Didn't know Canberra had a Lancaster, saw the one at Hendon and its awesome!

Cheers D

Cheers buddy. I'm actually thinking of doing the bird the transfers you gave me are for as it appears to be the one I really wanted to do all along and have a couple of really good photo's of. It's a heavily weathered bird, so it should look pretty good. The problem is badly weathered colour schemes in black and white photo's don't come out too well!!!!! Thus the need for the colour guide.

Sign - Welcome [#welcome] Paulss & David, always good to have some more Aussies join us in the forum.

Jules, if I didn't mention it before in the BoB group build forum, count me in for your North Africa and Heavy Fighter group builds, I have a couple of Beaufighters waiting in my stash.

Tominator, did you end up getting your compressor from Bunnings?

Cheers

Love the badge!!

This will be another excuse to build another Ansett airliner. I am thinking The Airbus A320 with the Olympic torch markings. Sort of compliments my Ansett 737-300 build.

Oh, yes and the Chinook as well!

cheers

Hi D, Angus & Robertson in Pitt St usually have it, but I see it around at lots of the larger newsagents. I gave up & subscribed though, you never know if it hasen't hit the stands yet or they've sold out.
...........

So guys, when does the 2005 Group Build start & how does it work?

Carl i don't know exactly when the GB will start but i'm hoping it will be from Jan 1st 2005 until about September, that gives us plenty of time to do multiple builds....
There's a Forum just for GB's and thats where you will find the 2004 Aussie Gb, basically we all get together and build something Australian posting progress pics along the way......
Anyways pop over to the GB forum and check out the 2004 Aussie GB, the thread is still active and we will probably keep the 2005 GB in the same thread.......
hope you will be joining us for next years buildThumbs Up [tup]

Chris the instuction sheet i have isn't very specific i'm afraid, it's for a F4U-1A Corsair

The colours are in Humbrol enamel.......
Upper surface-90% 96 + 10% 28
Undersurface 34 with 144on the underside of the wings at the wing folding join to the end of the wing......
BTW wern't you doing a Corsair from GuadalcanalQuestion [?]

The one I REALLY wanted to do was the one in the transfer set you gave me, but until you did I had no idea anyone did that particular aircraft, and I was still at that time faced with the problem of coming up with RNZAF insignia!

In the queue: 1/48 Beech Staggerwing (RAAF), P38 (RAAF), Vultee Vengeance (RAAF), Spitfire Vb (Malta), Spitfire VIII x2 (RAAF), P39 x2 (RAAF), Martin Baltimore (Malta?), Martin Maryland (Malta), Typhoon NF1b, Hellcat x2 (FAA)

Thumbs Up [tup]Like the badge Jules, you got my vote.

Carl, the rules for Aussie Group build are contained on the first page of the "All Subjects - Aussie group build" thread in the Group build Folder. Although these are the rules for the 2004 group build, apart from the dates, I can't see any changes being made for the for the 2005 build.

I was going to throw up for discussion a start date for the group build at a latter time but as it has now been raised. My suggestion was going to be the 26 Jan 05 (Australia Day). One of the reasons I picked this was if, and its looks like it will, the Aussie group build continues over the years this would be a date all the builds could start on each year and be easily remembered. It is also past the Xmas, New year holiday period. Haven't thought about a finish date at this time. Awaiting now for your feedback on this idea and finish date.

Still working on keeping the current GB thread open.

Hi guys.. I am also Chris.. I am originally from Brisbane, lived in Ipswich, but have spent most of my recent life in the US, and now living in Japan...

I model just about anything.. From Airliners, Sci Fi, Airoplanes, only in 1/72, both WW2 and Modern. Cars, Motorbikes, Gundam, and now I have just aquired my first Armour vehicle... So I basically model what takes my interest at the time... I also use my contacts overseas and trade, auction Japanese kits in the US and then trade auction US kits here in Japan..

Anyways, just wanted to say hi, and introduce myself to everyone!

On the bench:

South the start date sounds OK to me, as far as the finish date goes i'd like to have another long one, maybe August that gives us about 7 months......
Cheers Jules.....
