Good news today fellas, the slab for my new house is down and it should have a roof on it by Xmas, finally gonna have enough room to make that work bench, making models in the kitchen is wearing a little thin......Jules......

Yes I got it ok thanks. Thought I had already let you know. Sorry. Combined with some other info, I reckon I now have the finish sorted. Now to reproduce it!!!!! Incidentally, I since found out Ventura do a set of 1/48 decals for an RNZAF Corsair!!

Tweets i'm gonna go the whole hog on the bench, spray booth, airline connection on the back board with plenty of lockable cuboards all custom made by melength wise i'm thinking about 2 and a half meters at about the same height as the kithcen bench, that way i can either sit on the stool or stand......
hopefully there should be enough of the framing pine left over to build it

Chris i may have to see if Ventura do a decal set for a RNZAF P-40 i'm thinking of doing for the Anzac GB......
But i did pick up a Chevy truck from the LRDG in Kiwi markings so i may do that one...

2 and a half metres of bench, that could be a production line mate
Could have 4 or 5 kits on the go at once, plus one in the booth!

Yeah i'm gonna have plenty of room Tweets, It's going to go in the double lock up in the back corner with a small airconditoner to help remove some humidity as well as an exaust fan/filter in the back of the booth to try and combat fumes and dust, I've already started spraying water around my work area in the kitchen to help with the dust problem

I've just come back from the LHS (Vic Hobby Centre actually) and picked up a little early Xmas present for myself, the Tamiya Brewster Buffalo - Pacific Theatre and the Red Roo decals for 453 Squadron RAAF.
OK, the aircraft may not have been a world beater, but I always like to grab another RAAF subject to build and from the very quick look inside the box that I got the kit doesn't seem too bad

Guess it would help if I stopped working so hard, and did some light reading.

I have the old but excellent Matchbox one, are there 1:72 RAAF decals for it?

btw, pics of the new and cheap (5.95) Trumpeter 1:144 F-86F-30 Sabre. How easy would it be to fill the lower gun trough and dress it up with the new upcoming 1:144 CAC Sabre decals I have seen! At this small scale who cares about wing fences and deeper intakes!

Not a detailed in the cockpit area as the Ozmods release (plenty of detail though with seat, tub, joystick and panel) but has a 2 piece canopy, positionable airbrakes and drop tanks

Gentlemen (and any ladies I happened to miss who read this forum!!)

Hi to you all. Relatively new to the FSM fora, so thought I would drop in my own greeting. I am an ex-pat Kiwi living in Sydney, so please forgive me - both sides of the Tasman!!

Personal preferences are for WWII aircraft - mainly Allies, but also developing a small collection of Luftwaffe items as well - enough to whet my whistle on any way!!

Modelled as a kid, and am now regressing into my second child hood!!

Also have a bit of a passion for RNZAF models over time ... and am starting a bit of a collection of these as well. (Thanks to the Wigram RNZAF museum and curatorial staff - they are a great font of knowledge and information )

One of the particular aircraft I am struggling to get my hands on in 1/48 is a Lockheed Ventura. I have only found two possible manufacturers - both in vacuum moulded plastic. (That scares me enough anyway, but will overcome that fear if I can source the model!!). One is Fonderie Miniature in France, but their website does not seem to work - a missing page perhaps. The other is Koster out of the US, but I can only seem to find a snail mail address for them. My question for all you experts in here - have any of you seen these manufacturers here in Australia? and/or Has anyone seen a kit available for this aircraft??

I can't help you with the Ventura but one of the other boys may have some info for you

If you're interested we have an Aussie GB happening in the Group Build forums at the moment which is to be followed by an Anzac GB, basically we all get together and build something Australian and in the case of the Anzac GB we build Aussie and Kiwi subjects........
Once again to FSM online and i hope you have fun building with the rest of us larakins

in regards to the Ventura, you will find it difficult to find one down under, the only two I know off are like you say, vacformed. I have seen the Koster one built up and it looks mighty fine!

If you can get hold of a copy of "RAAF Camoflage and Markings 1939-45 Vol 1", on page 40 there are two photo's of Buffaloes of both 21 and 453 RAAF squadrons at Singapore in 1941. However, if you want something in Aussie colours rather than RAF scheme, page 110 has two photo's of a 25 squadron example in WA in 1943, and it's in Aussie colours serial A51-13. There's also a colour plate on page 17 of a 453 example. Hope that helps

be careful with the light reading tweety you might find that we also had Kittyhawks and Catalinas.

Weren't a great many Walruses CATapult launched??

Walrus aircraft were the standard seaplane launched from RN Battleships and heavy cruisers.

They were launched via athwartship catapaults and recovered by crane

Paul, there is a good possibility that it is, be brave and build it for the group build even if you have to put RAN decals on it, just convince yourself that the roo in the centre of roundal is a Kiwi.

Paul i just picked up the November issue of FSM and in the new products section there's a Lockheed PV-1 Ventura 1n 1/48 made by Fonderie Miniature...
This one is a multi media kit with resin and metal parts, markings appear to be Spanish...Its available from Squadron mail order NO. FN6040 for $64.95 USD.....
