What's with the Hawkeye website? The only military stock links they have on their homepage are US, 1/144 & choppers - where's the good stuff? I know they have loads of RAAF & RNZAF 1/48 product because it's listed on the Snowy Mts site but I can't find it.

Carl

Hawkeye have reduced their line considerably. I do not know if he is going to bring back the deleted lines either.

Hope to find out more and why shortly

cheers

G'day chaps.

I have a question for all of you fine fellows. Did the RAAF ever use P-40B kittyhawks? I know they used later models but not sure of the B model. The reason I'm asking is, I bought trumpeters kit the other day and I suddenly realised that I might be able to do it for the up coming Aussie GB. Otherwise I'll do it in the RAF desert scheme.

Thanks.

pingtang they didn't use P-40B as far as I'm aware , I think the only one used are..
A29-1 to A29-163 P-40E or Kittyhawk IA
A29-164 to A29-203 P-40K or Kittyhawk III
A29-204 to A29-389 P-40M or Kittyhawk III
A29-400 to A29-704 P-40N or Kittyhawk IV
A29-800 to A29-1221 P-40N or Kittyhawk IV
maybe someone else knows more ..

check this site out its full of great info http://www.adf-serials.com/
hope this helps..

Thanks mate. I didn't think we used P-40B's, but I thought I'd check anyway. Now I've gotta find something else for the Aussie GB.

I've had a look at the site that mgbriggs mentioned and found this:

http://www.adf-serials.com/aa12.shtml

Now, the kit I have is of a Tomahawk Mk.IIA. I might be able to convert it and build one of the Mk.IIB's used by 3 sqn RAAF. Does anyone know where I might find some photos of these aircraft? And were there any major changes between Mk.IIA and Mk.IIB Tomahawks?

Thanks again.

Pingtang, the only change between the P-40 B&C is the addition of improved equipment such as the provision for a belly drop tank and internally sealed fuel tanks. As far as I know there are no visible differences in the airframe.

Check out the following link for some pics

To catch those Filipino's all we need is some conversation starting statements. Such as:

Do Queenslanders learn to play Rugby league badly? Or are they born that way?

I know that'll get Jules talking anyway.Whistling [:-^]

BTW, thanks for the help with my questions fellas. Now all I've got to do is find some generic RAAF decals (roundels, codes and stencils etc) and I have a subject for the GB. Anyone know where I can get these?

Thanks.

The only decals that comes close that I've found so far are from AeroMaster 1/48 the only problem is that they represent a plane AK461 I don't think this was piloted by a Aussie , well according to the ADF web site there is a AK462 , I haven't found any other pics of an aussie P40-MKIIB as yet but still looking..there is a book called hurricanes over tobruk By Brian Cull with Don Minterne , it is concerned with the role played by the Hurricane squadrons in the defence of Tobruk. All of 3 Squadron's , Hurricane operations are included, and there is much material from the diary of John Jackson. A fine record. if you can find it I'm sure it will give you some good info on the aussie planes .
I did find this review by some some one for the AK461 , here's a link to it http://modelhangar.virtualave.net/tomahawk.htm

We will catch up to them in no time.Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

G'day fellas, I am about to venture into the world of the 1/48 Aussie Spitfire (Untrodden ground for me) and so far have decided on getting my hands on the Hasegawa Mk VIII Seac kit and mate it with a set of Aero imageworks "Shark Attack" decals. Hopefully this combo will build into a 457 Sqdn "Grey Nurse" Spit like the one I saw flying at Temora a couple of months ago. As I am no expert on Aussie Spits, any comments or advice on my choices here would be welcomed. I noticed that ICM have an Aussie "Clive Caldwell" kit and it would be nice to build one straight from the box but from what I can research the quality control on these kits can be very hit and miss, although it is supposed to be closer to the correct dimensions than Hasy kit, but that doesn't bother me personally. I must say I am tempted to grab one out of curiosity as the price is very reasonable. By the way, I recently got hold of a set of 1/48 decals from Red Roo for 3 different P40's called "Milne Bay Trio" and they look great, even has a set to do "Polly" as she stands in the AWM, now I can't wait for Hasegawa to release thier new P40E kit early this year.

Cheers.....Snowy

Hi Snowy!

If you are happy to build the Hasegawa kit then fair enough. However, the nose profile is wrong. The ICM kit, of which I have an example waiting in the queue, is supposed to be a far better kit all round.

In the queue: 1/48 Beech Staggerwing (RAAF), P38 (RAAF), Vultee Vengeance (RAAF), Spitfire Vb (Malta), Spitfire VIII x2 (RAAF), P39 x2 (RAAF), Martin Baltimore (Malta?), Martin Maryland (Malta), Typhoon NF1b, Hellcat x2 (FAA)

Snowy G'Day mate, havn't seen you in a whileBig Smile [:D]
Here's a Pic of the Hasegawa Spitfire MK-8 i did for the 2004 Aussie GB
The decals are the Shark Attack Series made by Aero Image Works and are a fantastic set covering a wide range of Aussie Spit8's, good value for $25:00Thumbs Up [tup]

I also have the ICM MK-8 which i'm doing for this GB, in my opinion the detail in the ICM kit is a little better than the Has kit but the Parts fit isn't as good........
The good thing about the ICM kit is the option to open the gun bays and engine panels....
Cheers Jules........

Thanks for the input Chris and Jules. You haven't seen me in a while as I've had massive work overload in the second half of '04, at the moment I'm on holidays for another couple of weeks so I can indulge myself a bit and wind down. Hopefully the new year will see me participating with you guys more as you are all a great bunch. Thanks for the tip on the decals Jules, I can buy the set with more confidence now Cool [8D]. As for the kits, I might just snap up both, stick to my plan with the Hasy kit and try the ICM as the Caldwell build OOB. I love your MkVIII build Jules, I don't care if they reckon she's got a Barbara Streisand nose, if I were flying a Zero 60 odd years ago and spotted her I would be duly concerned! Thumbs Up [tup]

Cheers....Snowy

No worries SnowyThumbs Up [tup] The Shark Attack decals also give you Caldwells markings which are a lot better than the ICM offering, the only problems i had was the actual Sharks Mouth decals themselves, i ended up cutting most of the black out as well as 2 teeth and touching it up with the A/B once on.......
Cheers Jules......

Yeh Mike, they are releasing a new 1/48 P40E in about Feb or March. If Hasegawa are up to thier usual standard this should be new benchmark kit for those of us who want to build an Aussie P40E. If you are thinking of getting Red Roo's "Milne Bay Trio" set I wouldn't leave it too long as they are a limited edition. (Or so they say). They also come with an 18 page booklet with some 75/76 Sqdn history in New Guinea and profiles for 3 75 Sqdn birds ("Polly", "Cleopatra" and "Stardust"). Luckily I have "Polly" as a reference on display in the War Memorial just 20 minutes from home.

Cheers...Snowy

Um, I hate to interject here, but the scores are level!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There was one match that was played between the Queensland(Yeah!! [yeah]) and NSW(Yuck [yuck])
teams that was a muck around match.
Naturally NSW want it counted, but those in the REAL world know if it's not 3 Origin games, it aint nuttin' at all.

I could ramble all night about the less than acceptable umpiring in the last Origin, but we already know that!!

My 2 cents [2c]
