Jules, I take it the bottle is to help you survive working with the PE for the Uboat.

Looks like an interesting project don't forget to post progress reports and photos as you build it as I think there would be a few of us here that would like to see how it goes.

Jules, nice 1/72 bottle of Corona (?) you have there. The scale effect is outstanding.

While we're dumping on dickhead drivers, a week before Xmas this young jerk refused to move over in the back lane & ripped my outside mirror off. Now the catch is I was on my way to get a pink slip (rego checkup for interstaters) on the arvo prior to my shoulder surgery. So no pink slip, no rego, no car insurance as I haven't been able to drive since the surgery & all expired in the intermin. @*#!%$#*

I get out of the sling tonight (I hope) but the arm is a long way from working reasonably, so not sure when I can drive again. Hopefully I'll be able to airbrush as I just ordered a new Badger 100LG (I've been using an Aztec to date).

First of Capricorns rule! I can't believe how many birthdays there are at this time of year in this forum, I just had mine a while back and turned the big four oh. Hang on, I've just got to move my walking frame a little closer to the computer, ahh that's better.

Jules, how much is the extension you're going to have to put on to your house going to cost Big Smile [:D] That is one monster kit [:0]
Seriously have you decided where to house it?

My weapon of choice for grog is red wine, or a scotch or two and in summer a cold Boag's or Cascade goes down very nicely.

Bandha, I hope your arm is well enough to model with soon.

Cheers

Fellas i think it's safe to assume that we all consider the road to be a dangerous placeDead [xx(]Every time i drive whether it's on the bike or in a car i seem to be on a contsant alert status just waiting for the next wanker to do something idioticAngry [:(!]

I'll make sure i post pics when i do something to the U-boat i mean i gotta show someone right, the missus doesn't give s- -tLaugh [(-D]Laugh [(-D]Laugh [(-D] Thats what i like about this site everyone is interested in modelsThumbs Up [tup]

Darren i plan on putting the U-Boat in it's own special case, the house wer'e building at the moment has a formal lounge and we have bought a lowline entertainment unit which is only about 800mm high and about 2Mt long, the plasma is going on the wall so the U-Boat will go on the unitThumbs Up [tup]

Carl hope your arm starts working soonBig Smile [:D]Wink [;)]Thumbs Up [tup]i can imagine how hard it would be to model with the use of only one armDead [xx(]

Carl, sorry to hear about your arm, hope it gets better soon and you can begin modelling again.

Where did you order your Bager from, being trying to chase one here but Im not getting anywhere. Like you I have been using an Aztec but would like a Bader to the tool box.

Love your pop up giraffe in your signature.

Thanks for the sympathy guys. I did get so bored I figured out a way to do a bit of work on the Mirage with the right arm in a sling. It's amazing how innovative you can get when you have to.

I ordered my airbrush from Bear Air. The courier fees are a bit silly but it still works out considerably better than the local rip-off merchants, I shudder to think what margin they're working on. I also include a few goodies in the box that you can't get locally & BA are good to deal with. They hit me for about US$50+ for UPS (including a hose, a couple of quick-connects, some paints, cleaners, etc) but 'YouCanShopSecure', who have the best Badger prices, came up with > US$170 Shock [:O] just for shipping one airbrush via UPS!!!

The Peak brush looks nice but it's a Bear Air special so I passed on that, at least you can get Badger bits from Front Line & others.

Thanks for the info Carl, I also didn't know that frontline where stocking badger parts as when I was based at Williamtown that didn't carry any badger items apart from the cheap external mix airbrush.

G'day guys heres a few progress pics on the mustang P51D, I figured out the problem with the decals on the last effort , I think it was impatents that got the better of me on that one , this time I let the pledge dry for 40+hrs before putting the decals on , they are the decals that came out of the box ..I'll use the other one that I ordered from Red Roo on another project..I wasn't going to let this one beat me .

Mike, the mustang looks good, a take the bronze tint is a result of the lighting on the aircraft when the photo was taken.

Thanks guys the finish is AS12 tamiya , but I removed the paint from the can and air brushed it on , for the shaded panels I just added several drops of flat black to the AS12 . when all the decals were done and dryed I gave it a final coat of pledge and thats the finish you see . I sprayed AV acrylic flat clear on the antiglare panel .

I'm no way experienced enough to use BMF .

thanks mike

I had a feeling it was good old AS-12, my favourite BMF, though I would not go down the path of decanting and airbrushing it!

Well done Mike, looks the bees knees

Hi all

A trio of sneak peek pics of my just finished Kamov Ka-27 Helix ASW Helicopter. I took these whilst the Kamov was residing in it's new home.

Flat coat was finished on Sunday morning using Pollyscale clear flat acrylic and in the afternoon I did final detail painting and added replacement fuse wire step-rungs (the kit offerings were out of scale, chunky and entirely wrong!)

Canopy and side window masking was removed and the blunt end of a shaped toothpick used to clean up some errant paintwork. The window wipers then needed to be painted as well.

I had to use a brass tube section to correct the sit of the rotor head, this has really improved the final look of the model.

The whole model was then treated to some selective pastel chalk weathering, which really lifted the model more.

The flat coat reduced the wash effect somewhat, even removing a little here and there, but nothing really bad and certainly something I am not annoyed about.

Still, here it is, so I hope you like what you see. I will post better pics later this week when I can set up my photo corner.

Time to get on with my BoB and SF Ground Assault GB entries

cheers

$170 for postage Shock [:O]Shock [:O]Shock [:O]Shock [:O]. They have got to be stark raving mad. I paid $250 AU from Dixie Art for my Iwata (with extra needles, nozzles and caps) and that includes shipping. I'm to embarrassed to mention what I paid locally for my old Aztec.

Jules, Plasma, did you mention Plasma, boy you're lucky you live in QLD or you'd have me around watching movies at your place all the time Laugh [(-D]Laugh [(-D]

Mike that's a great looking Mustang, what decals did you use for it?

Mike J I love the chopper, great job. Now how about posting a couple of shots of the Panther that's hiding in the corner of some of the Helix photos.

Cheers

No problems Smile [:)]

Kit is a Matchbox 1:72 F9F-5 Panther from VF-144 aboard the USS Boxer in 1955. Decals are from Microscale and needed rescue treatment with Microscale decal film to prevent shattering. The kit decals were dead as the kit had been stored in a shed before I got my hands on it via ebay.

I used Tamiya AS Spraycan dark sea blue for the overall finish, which I decanted for touch ups. Other paints were from Aeromaster, Vallejo, Citadel and Humbrol.

As you can see, the Microscale decals performed like champions, bedding down without silvering! I used Superscale white decal strips to replicate the prominent white canopy seals.

Build-up was excellent with only moderate amounts of filler used. The use of a Flex-i-file paid dividends here for fuselage seam work. Thanks Thommo!!

I used the kit seat with Tamiya tape belts to simulate the harnesses. In fact the cockpit was the only place I had difficulty with. More me than the kit I guess!

cheers
