fun...

I've just recieved the mustang resin 1/72 update set and the vac foam canopy for the sutherland that I'm going to do in the float and fly group build never used these before this will be intresting . Also recieved squadrons 2005 catalogue lots of goodies in there ..

To both Mikes, decanting paints from spray cans, never even thought about that technique. Guess you learn something everyday.

Question for both of you as I noticed that you both built the Tamiya Matilda II for the Commonwealth Armor GB. I am thinking of building this (as one of my builds) for the Nth African GB and wanted to know what is the kit like. I know it is old but does it still build into a reasonable looking kit?

Darren the Matilda 11 is not a bad kit at all, it goes together fairly well but the exaust system is a liitle trying, the only other gripe i have is with the colour guide, i want to do the 3 colour Caunter scheme but the instuctions are hopeless there is no colour guide at all only a B/W pic of the finished model which is not much help, i asked about the actual colours on the armour forum and was advised to go to the Review forum and have a look at the Stuart Honey in the Caunter scheme so at least now i know what colours to paint it, but i do still need to find out exactly where the colour demarcation lines are.......other than a vague colour guide it's a pretty good kit Thumbs Up [tup]

OH yeah BTW you will have to fill up a couple of holes where the old motorized bits used to go.........Jules............

Gday all

Here is my belated greeting. I'm from Sydney and would count myself as one of the lucky ones who has a wife who also models. We both usually dabble in 48 scale military aircraft with the occasional foray into other scales.

One question I have always wondered about is does anyone make a scale 1968 Dodge Charger either built or kit? I have never seen one.

Here are some progress pix of the Mirage. Cockpit tub almost ready to go( it's not glued in here, just sitting loosely). The seat was a whole deal in itself, pity I didn't think to take some shots before I stuck it in.

Panel & instruments (sorry for the crap photos):

Some of the PE goes onto the wall rather than the tub:

The front wheel well is the reverse side of the tub - obviously sans wheel at this stage:

There's a whole bunch of detail up the jet pipe although you need an arthroscope to see it, which begs the question...

It's all from the Eduard IIIC Royal kit. Some wierd things they do, eg all of the instructions are written for the 'Profipack' (a level down from the 'Royal') so you find, for instance, a resin seat in the kit that is quite different to the one in the instructions and not mentioned anywhere at all. I think the plastic one is an MB4 & the resin an MB5, but consequently some of the PE doesn't easily fit onto the resin seat. All up though, Eduard do a wonderful job.

I added a few pipes etc to the wheel well after looking at the RAAF IIIO, which has absolute spaghetti in there. I'm doing the SAAF scheme but couldn't find any pics of their interior of the IIICZ, so I've copied bits from various sources, eg the multifarous seat colours are from a Sea Vixen as it was the closest seat design I could find to the resin seat.

Darren; I agree with Jules that the Matilda 11 is not a bad kit but it does suffer some of the minor problems of early Tamyia kits including overcoming the kits provision for mounting a motorizing kit. If you decide on the three colour Caunter scheme the instructions will not be of any great help, as Jules has highlighted. There is a debate on hyperscale that the blue in this scheme does not exsist, at least on the honeys, but I have photos of matildas that show blue in use in this scheme. Im using these photos as a reference although it will be a guess about the top of the turret as the photo don't show this very well. Ill post a photo of the completed model when I finish painting it.

Possible colours for the Caunter scheme are;

Desert yellow = Tamyia XF 60 Dark Yellow, you can added a small amount of XF 49 to darken it
Dark Green = Tamyia XF 61 Dark Green
Slate Grey = 60% Tamiya XF20 Medium Grey and 40% XF 23 Light Blue.

Well fellas i figured i'd keep you posted with this U-Boat build so here is a pic....
All i have done is open up the drain holes in the hull by sanding them out from the inside, i still had to spend a couple of hours cleaning them up with a file but i reckon it was easier than drilling and filing Thumbs Up [tup]

Jules I'm in envy of you commencing your U boat. I was reading Great Scale Modelling 2005 the other day and one of their profile sections is on a diorama builder, one of the featured ones being the 1/72 Flower class corvette in a dry dock. Just fabulous, keep an eye out for a copy and check it out.

There is also a very nice detailed Sabre which you guys who have built such beasts would appreciate. I did find one glaring error in the text for one picture of the Bob Jane T-Marts Porsche 956, it says that Bob Jane T-Marts are a "retail clothing line sponser" Laugh [(-D]

I'll throw my name up here.

I'm Stuart from Melbourne grew up making spitfires and the like with my uncle.

Started modeling Tamiya bikes and cars for something to do when i quit smoking about 6 years ago after a long time away. Had a large collection of Bikes mainly but my ex got custody of them for some reason.

Anyway... I'm into 1/35 Choppers now... and about to get into 1/35 figures. Can't wait i love a challenge.
