Awesome Bish! I know you'll enjoy that Conqueror II!!! It's a great kit. Just read the instructions- there are some parts for the Conqueror Mk I in there too- and being a stupidhead I used them by mistake- no big deal but I could have saved myself a lot of trouble by just reading the fine directions...

And hope you'll go with the bike Mongoose, I really would like to watch yours before I try to start mine.

Thanks for the heads up.

Just OOB. I'm going to try something diffrent then my usual for the deck.

I'll be painting it in Operation Rheinubung colors to match the Bismarck I'll get to hopefully sooner that later.

I'm in 2 minds about that AM set. If it had a rifeled barrel, i would grab one, but for the effort of cleaning up the barrel seam and painting the decks, i'm not sure iots worth it. Can't wait to see yours and get some ideas.

Bish, a Scharnhorst turret is going to be about the same size, as she was designed to be upgunned to the 15" twin as a drop in replacement.

I know, thats would be a big one. But even the Spee's turret would do me.

Pat: Like your Lil Coffin. Nice bargain for sure.

Bish: That turret is bangin'! I am excited to see you build that.

By the way, what will the FSM Mob be building first from their haul?  I bought only one kit, so it's simple for me.

Not sure which I'll get into first. Although I did have the Panzerkleinzerstoerer kit from Andy's t-shirt give away opened up on the bench and giving it some thought. Definitely of some interest.

I do like the looks of that La-7.

Ordred this christmas tree for posing pictures of my drag cars - should be fun.

This was 'technically' ordered by me, but my wife is giving it to me for my birthday next month Cool

The just released Meng 1/24 GT40.  Can't wait!

Have my eye on that GT 40 too.

Are you useing the AM set with metal barrels and wood deck or just OOB. I plan on doing mine at the same time as i bild my Revell 350 Bismarck, but that won't be for a couple of years yet.

I knew it would be big, but the size of the box took me by surprise, its going to be a big beast when complete. Which scheme are you going for.

Nice pick-ups Bish. I'm building the Turret right now as a welcome light relief to the stern business of building ships and planes. It goes together nicely although I've seem to have lost that one token part one must always loose during a build. If it doesn't show I'll scratch it.

Some nice hauls there guys.

Had 2 new additions show up. I know the large scale naval weapons kits are not to everyone's taste, but i like the idea. When takom released their 72nd Yamato turret, my first thought was i hope they release a Bismarck one. And soon enought, one did follow and i have now picked that up.

I hope they continue with this theme. Personally i'd like to see a triple turret from either the Scharnhorst or Deutschland class as well as a 4.5inch gun as used on RN ships over he past few decades. I already have the 35th Sea Wolf and Sea dart on my wish list.

And i also picked up a new addition to my British armour collection.

And i was glad to see a few weeks ago that a Caernarvon is to follow soon.

Ya know, I was thinking the 335 as captured by the US, OOB. That one may make it to Omaha.

A Monogram L'IL Coffin. From ebay here in the UK for £10 as it is already used/started etc, as you can see it's in bits. The owner painted most things gold and tried to stick the chrome parts on top of the paint, but also without removing the chrome plating. I'm stripping the paint from the back axle/driveshaft and the engine block as most of the chrome parts began to fall off once I handled them. The hinges on both the doors and body are broken in one way or another and I will try to replace them.

A new kit complete here in the UK is about £50 - £100!

Remember , common sense is not common.

Alright, It is now my turn to share my pile-o-plunder from the Nationals. I was blessed with being able to drive and to have ample room in my car for a slew of choice of items. Being as this was my first Nats, I was completely in awe of the vendor room. It was also a magnified experience being able to shop and browse with fellow FSM Mob members. With that, let's begin shall we.

Here is the big picture of the haul:

This was my big purchase as this has been on my wishlist forever. The coup de gras for my Corsair collection.

Then this was simply an added bonus as far as wishlist kits go. Not pictured is the Tom's Modelworks PE set I also got for it.

I won one raffle and picked out a grab bag of kits. Nice score!

Here are the bonus kits I picked up while oogling the bounty of choices.

My Andy's T-shirt kit

Books and magazines:

And with part of my jackpot winnings I treated my self to these books:

Now, I am faced with the task of where to put all of these in my man hangar. I have pretty much run out of space. It may be time to annex the wife unit's walk in closet.ConfusedConfused

ENJOY!!!

Nice scores.  Don't be surprised if you find Gam breaking into your modeling cave for the A6M book and the matching kit.

OK here are my Nats purchases. The vendors loved me I think.

Books first

Decals

IPMS decals

787 decals

Photo etch and after market

Finally kits

CR-42 I've wanted for a while.

A guy was selling vintage kits for very little. Got this for $5

Something I remembered I wanted

And of course I can't get out of a vendor room without a ship

I wanted to do a 51A in Burma so I picked this up

Then I saw this and it blew my mind. I bought this back in 83ish when it was a new production thinking it would go up in value. The only value that went up was inflation so I sold it 30 years later. I saw this and almost had a coronary. The likelihood that it was the kit I sold around ten years ago is very high. Mine had that first production run sticker with one edge slightly pealed and the box top and bottom was crushed in due to stacking. I bought it for $15, probably what I bought it for in 83. It's got to be mine. What are the odds?

Then I found a 1/32 Zeke which has been on my wish list for several years. Now it's not!

Finally, I've been wanting a 1/72 Seahawk....I saw this and didn't want a 1/72 anymore

Well, that will probably be a bit of a wait as I've also ordered a 1/700 kit which will be the "test Dummy". I figured to abuse the little one so I don't overly screw up the big one.

But, I'll post the progress on that one too.

So, I ordered an ALASKA through Amazon, which means it's coming from China. I got a confirmation for shipping through Yanwen  .  .  . Updates are not particularly accurate or forthcoming. I figured that it hadn't left China yet or at best was stuck in transit or customs. Then today, Fed Ex shows up with a box with a USPS tracking number  .  .  .

In hand, one Hobby Boss USS ALASKA  .  .  .   Yea!!!!

Here are my IPMS Nats model-related purchases:

Two of the smaller kits are for friends, so actually I only bought one kit and one accessory for myself.  Still, I'm content with my purchases.  And yes, me and my friends like weird subjects!

Believe it or not, I do have a "normal" streak in me, much like the vestigal limbs left in animals that returned to the sea.  The resin props are for a ERTL F7F Tigercat that I have had for many years.

Oh wow guys, those all look cool!!!

Mongoose, picked up the same Kawasaki Ninja kit, only done a tiny 1/35th US Army bike so this should be interesting. Still in the shipping box, intend to open it on my birthday in two weeks.

Stik. There's something to be said of older kits. The Fury looks cool. I built the F-80 last year. Its a very build able kit with modelling required

TJ, I agree wholeheartedly about older kits. Many of the new ones turn me off with their over engineering, high parts count, or extra high costs.
As far as the F-80 goes, I've built a couple of them previously, so I won't be having any surprises on this go.

Well didn't get any pix however it is all over the internet. Yeup I pulled the trigger on the Das Werk 1/16 Panzer 3 Ausf G. Biggest tank I hope to build....I will build it. It is a beautiful kit with just enough interior to look really good. My norm is 35th so like going to the Nats " stepping outta the comfort zone". Also scored a few books on weathering techniques, one was a gift from the FSM MobBig Smile, and how to diorama. Snatched a 1/32 HK Mobious Do 335 Phiffel Trainer, and my lust of the show , a 1/16 Fujimi/ Testors Lamborghini LP500S to which I may make an Idaho or Washington State Patrol car.

You know I'd totally forgotten about this thread until ModelCrazy reminded me of it this week! Some cool finds here. And I ran into the same situation aggieman did a few years back over and F-5E from Kittyhawk. Fortunately got my money refunded as well.

Day 1 vendor room - got in right away looking for some specific models of course at a good deal. Found 1 of them, Trumpeters A-10A In 1/32nd scale! Guy was selling his stash and was taking cash only. $80 and it had 4 extra sets of decals in it.

won a half dozen small things in the general raffle, 2 models and 4 sets of vallejo paints. The Mega raffle they had was $5 a ticket. I won on 2 of my 5 and they were super worth it.

the 1st one had me using the UPS shipping they had onsite!

Sorry Joe lol

She's going to mirror her successor, The Big E, in my case next year maybe lol

Then I picked the 2nd one based on a seminar I took while here on how to apply carbon fiber graphics. I've ogled the scale Motorsport decals at shows for a couple years now. I couldn't decide what i wanted more on the raffle table till it hit me, hey this one would be perfect to try out a new skill!

sorry Steve lol

The Grex airbrush class was great. Tamiya and Airfix supported them so they gave away a pair of models there. Picked up an Andy's Hobby HQ shirt and that got us a free model if we showed up at his booth on Friday in it. This looks pretty cool

Maybe Armornut will jump on here and show us the 1/16 Stug he preordered!

So that was the show! Lots of fun and a full suitcase coming home. Looking forward to seeing some updates from the rest of the gang Blind Fold
