I said I wouldn't buy anymore kits this kit this year until I'd reduced my stash a bit.

Well I already broke it a few times.

And I got my Covid-19 vaccanation shot early this week and felt like rewarmed krap the last couple days.

So I did some retail relief.

I've been playing a lot of the wargame 'Order of Battle: Red Star' so I wanted something Russian.

Something that doesn't involve accordians or folk dancing though...

Yeah, this'll work...

Rubber band tracks and fiddly bit tracks- your choice!   Oh yeah!!!

Bought an extra set of crew. I love the leather jackets on the top set. It's supposed to be for heavy break-though tanks as well as flame tanks so I'm not sure it fits here. In any case I have the other set too.

And bonus!!! Like Real G's KV-II this one also has a quick-fried tower!!! I'm not sure what that is but it sounds very important! Plus main firecrackers- why? Because warlike vehemence that's why!!!

Those are cool John!

I ended up with the same Marivox kit from one of the guys in our club that drove a Saab and was crazy about anything Swedish that passed away years ago. I really need to pull the darn thing out and build it in his memory.

Just got these delivered over the pond from Hannats,  I see lots of scratch building and fine tuning in my future!

My first model I bought was the Aurora version must have been early late 60's!

Joe, nice collection there. How does that Sword Avenger look. They do a British boxing i'm eyeing up.

Hey Bish, It appears to be a fairly nice kit with decent detail and fine panel lines. There is some flash to clean up, no locator pins and no option for an open canopy. As such, from my initial inspection I'd recommend snagging one.

Thanks, sounds typical for a short run kit, not to much to worry about. I built the Academy kit a few years back in Midway markings, but really fancy the British one. I meant to grab the Sword Ar 196 but never got around to it, now i can't find one. So deffinetly going to get the Avenger before its to late.

I grew up about 70 miles away, my sister had a home near Stead.  Went to the races in '69 or '70 as part of my avaition classes.  Days of Bob Hoover, Blue Angels in Phantoms, and more Pitt's than you could count.

The purple is a standout, haven't seen any decals for it though.  Especially the 2008 checkerboard scheme.

Yeah, that purple scheme is a knock out.

I am a huge fan of Rare Bear. That purple scheme is indeed choice. i attended the Reno Air Races in 1991 and thought this scheme was boss then.

Greenamyer's was more in my day and time.  He ecomomized on aluminum even more than Grumman did.

Been thinking about a Bearcat done as Rare Bear.

Gold or purple?

The Bear is my favorite Reno racer, although she doesn't win as much as she did in the 90's and early 2000's. The Seafurys seem to get the gold anymore.

Yeah, great stuff there guys!

And that's an insane haul Joe!!!

I picked up the Fugaku in an alternate boxing. Looks like a nice kit in the box and it's friggin' huge even in 1/144th! And love the Alaska battlecruiser and the Bearcats- hey the whole darn haul is awesome!

The Kai looks like a six engine cross of a 17/29.  I like it.

Knowing your skills, you'll do it proud.

HOLY COW Joe!!!!! What a haul Stick out tongue

You don't see too many Bearcats or Hustlers. There's nothing in that haul I wouldn't take.

I want to get the Guam. My wife's father was in the Navy and stationed in Guam when she was born.

Not much into paper tigers of what if's either but what the heck.

Neat decals Pat

Not kits this time but Car/Truck/Trike logo decals. These are Nail Art decals and are around 1/24-1/25 scale. I've used the Ice Creams on both The Ice Cream Truck and more recenly on The Ice Cycle Trike. So I bought more Ice Creams/Black & White Palm Trees/and new soda/lemonade sponsor logo's, Coca Cola/Fanta/Pepsi Cola and a lot more. Easy to lay up and good quality. Prices are from around £1.35 - £1.75 per sheet from ebay.

Remember , common sense is not common.

Well, it is high time I updated the latest kits I've acquired.

I just got this 1/144 Fujimi IJA Super Heavy Bomber Fugaku Kai. I'm not normally into prototypes or what ifs but, this was way too cool.

Since I have not been able to make it over to my nearest LHS in over a year I figured I'd order these from them and have them shipped over.

Then I've added these from ebay or FB auctions:

And then I got this from Free Time Hobbies:

Nice take homes Steve. I've been curious about the quality of the Revell paints. That Spit is a righteous choice.

Thanks Joe and Stick.

All I tried was their acrylics. I found them kinda thick but I'll be happy to give their enamels a try. The acrylics go on fine and don't lift like Vallejo does but in my experience, they take a bit of thinner.

I've been using Mission Models quite a bit lately and really like em'.

Thanks Joe!

RG, I think the charm of the Chaika is the beefy build, like some of the between the wars USN Yellow Wings types, mixed with that upper gull wing. It looks like it's a bird spoiling for a fight.

Steve, if you give the Revell enamels a try, you won't be disappointed. They are quite good in my experience. Not to mention that they have several German RAL colors not easily found elsewhere.

Hey Steve - I've used Revell paints a couple times and they are really nice enamels, think Humbrol.  I like the big Spit!

Thanks,

John

I went to our local Hobby Town to exchange my display builds out and saw that they had Revell paints! Wow, awesome. I'm not a big Revell paint guy, but it's so cool that if I want some, I won't have to order it. While I was there though I wanted to try the Revell glue, so I bought some as well as a 1/32 Spitfire Mk.IVc. It was a toss up between the Spit and a 1/144 Airbus A321 Neo...the Spit won this time.

A Very Happy Birthday to you Stik. Nice presents you got there. It will be fun to see your new run at the A-10.

Chops: Well done on obtaining the new Phantom. Mine came the other day, (Which reminds me that I've got some sharing to catch up on). It's a beauty out of the box for sure. Enjoy!

Stik,

We have eerily similar tastes -  I have the 1/32 I-153!  I got the ski version and am planning on doing a Finnish bird.  I wonder what is the secret behind the charm of the "Chaika"?

Real G
The Kahala Mall Woolworth's was not as well stocked, but they were one of the few stores that carried those ESCI 1/48 jets, the ones with the crosshairs on the box art.  I got the Mirage F-1 from them.  The Viggen at $10.50 was too rich for my meager pockets. I look forward to seeing that old Revell A-10 get built.  I understand the attraction of older kits as well.  I hope to get the Monogram 1/48 F-102 done before someone does a new tooled kit.

With the recent demise of Kitty Hawk, I think that you're pretty safe about building that Monogram Deuce before another new tool kit comes out. They were the only folks starting to cover the non Vietnam Century Series types in 1/48.
Im with you on those ESCI 1/38 jets. I couldnt really afford those with my paper route or lawn mowing money from the local shop by my old house. Built a lot more 1/72 back then. Or it was AMT, Hawk, Monogram, & Revell for 1/48 jets. And that A-10 is coming...

in the meantime... Happy (belated) Birthday to me Pt.II: My other eBay bargain score arrived this afternoon! Woohoo! All the way from Lithuania in less than two weeks. I’ve been wanting one of these for awhile for my 1/48 Red Air Force

I opened the box and had a peek inside… oh what a lovely looking kit! Even the decals don’t look like the old ICM stuff. They sure have stepped up their game. Now to get a PE rigging set for this little beauty…

Real G... Kahala Mall... that is a name I have not heard in decades. When I was a kid, we used to vacation on Oahu pretty much every summer. To keep me busy in the evenings in the hotels, while my folks would go out on the town, I would usually get a model to build during the vacation. One year was the 1/32 Hasegawa Spitfire V from some shop at the Ala Moana mall... I do remember getting something at the Kahala Mall another year, but not what it was...

Ala Moana had a Pete's Modelcraft as well, but most of my models came from the Woolworth's next door.  Apparently, their buyer was really good and ordered all the right stuff.  Pete's might have had the bigger, more exotic kits, but for a kid with pocket change, Woolworth's ruled!

Hutch, I'll certainly be posting my speckled Hog here when it comes time to build it. I love those experimental 70's schemes. For some reason, these older, simpler kits are more appealing to me right now.

Happy birthday, Stik - nice present!

stikpusher
I built this kit when it was a new release

Yeah, I had it, too, bought from a fire sale in Liverpool (1980-ish?) but it was OK apart from the box smelling of smokeSmile  Unfortunately, I made a mess of it with a rattlecan paint job and it went in the bin.

stikpusher
I’ll have another go at it now, and theoretically do a better job now that I have a lot more skills, experience, and tools

I've no doubt it'll be a cracker, I look forward to seeing it.

Vell, Zaphod's just zis guy, you know?
