Oh wow, somehow I missed you saying it was your honeymoon!!!

Congradulations and hope you guys will be celebrating your anniversary in fifty years or so. Stick out tongue

And cool that the kit comes with the figures. Hope they work out for you. If you don't like the sculpting on the faces you might be able to replace them with Hornet replacement heads. I thought they did a 1/32nd line but now I'm only seeing 1/35th. They ought to still work without giving the figures the tiny pinhead look.

Congratulations.......and when is the divorce?

Thanks for the congrats, Greg, and the trip to the model shop was quite safe, as Mrs 6390 (title is now official!) is very supportive, and has even built the odd model herself!

I waited a long time, but I picked a good oneBig Smile

Thanks, Gamera, I think a base or small diorama without the carrier might be the best idea.  The gun does come with crew figures, but I haven't had a close look at them yet.  If I don't like them, it'll be the gun by itself, maybe in an abandoned/overrun scenario.

I've been a very naughty boy.  Despite my recently-declared moratorium on buying kits, I was in York (on honeymoon!) this week & made my ritual visit to the Monk Bar model shop.  On special offer was the 17-pdr anti-tank gun in 1/32 scale, by Airfix.  It was the last one he had, and it was about half-price.  It's now in the stash.  Does anyone know where (or even if) I can get a 1/32 prime mover to go with it?  A Bren carrier would be favourite, as these were used together at Arnhem, where I visited last year & saw two 17-pdrs outside the Hartenstein museum (formerly a hotel, and used as a HQ by both sides during the course of the battle in 1944).  Would a 1/35 scale carrier be OK, or would the scale difference be too obvious?

You went to a hobby shop whilst on your honeymoon?

Congratulations.......and when is the divorce? Wink

Nice light there, John. Yes Looks like you have a nice deep bench. I thought mine was deep enough at the time. Sigh.

Hmm, the 17pdr sounds really neat.

But I think I'd just put it on a base by itself. Maybe add some 1/32nd figures. I'm not sure if the old Airfix 'Multipose' figures are still available or not.

You can put 1/32nd and 1/35th stuff together but having some space between them helps. I built a dio years ago using 1/35th Japanese Imperial Army figures and a 1/32nd geisha. Which I separated, if I'd put them close together you'd notice the geisha is about six feet /two metres tall compared to the soldiers! At a distance the eye does not notice, together it does.

Maybe you could just have the 17pdr with the Universal Carrier parked a little bit away from it. If you have the Carrier towing the 17pdr the eye will notice the difference in scale though.

Nice lamp - I could do with one of those!  I presently use a large, floor-standing magnifying glass with a few LED lights round the frame, but it has nothing like that output, and it has to be "looking over my shoulder" to illuminate what I want.  Is the light as even & well-diffused as it appears in the photo?

Set up the lamp tonight.  This is with no other lights on in the room except the aquarium lights.  Pretty pleased so far

Thanks,

The Santa tank is awesome!

Picked this up to aid my tired eyes

Bruce: Oh WOW, love that Yamato turret!!! That is the coolest!!!

If picked up a few little things. I'm trying not to buy anything hobby related until Christmas but aftermarket stuff is okay. I already had the Tamiya T-55 in my stash but I wanted it ready for a quick, cheap, and dirty build as a break from some of this more complex stuff. So I picked up aftermarket tracks since it's a lot of work getting the 'rubber band' ones in the box to lay on the road wheels correctly. And the turned metal gun barrel was pretty cheap so I went with both. Only twenty bucks between the tracks and the barrel.

And I had a set of aftermarket decals for the T-55 in my stash. I went ahead and bought two tank crews, not sure if I want to build it as stock Soviet or Middle Eastern as yet.

I also had the Caddy in my stash. I'm not good with autos but I want to try building her. I finally went ahead and picked up the pink paint for her.

And finally this. Assuming we have a club Christmas party this year this is going to be my gift for the exchange.

JOE RIX

You have to just love days like this. All of these wonderful kits arrived today. I'd do a series of cartwheels but, at my age, that would hurt...immensely.

I ordered these on ebay from a gentleman in Latvia. Only took just over 2 weeks to arrive.

Won these on FB auctions. And, yes, I was thrilled to score another GT40 for a nice price. Sorry folks, but I'm just in the right place at the right time I guess. The Mig-27 came with a Bilek PE set.

And then I ordered this 1/350 beauty from Mega Hobby as soon as it arrived in stock. Really been waiting for this kit. It is a sweet looking kit upon opening. Superb detail.

Oh my! Joe you got the USS Cleveland!!! OH MY!! I've been looking at the Cleveland and the USS Salem. Very Nice!

For those looking at the Mustang GT4, get it.

Almost grabbed one at HobbyTown today, but I bought too much other stuff. Watching the inventory closely.

Bish, that is super cool. I'm looking forward to seeing that one build up.

Gamera, I was thinking about the GT as well, it looks super nice.

JoeRix, holy cow man. You're buying up some really cool kits. Nice drug to have, it doesn't leave track lines or make you teeth fall out.

I've bought a few more lately. I picked up this old Tamiya M1A1 with mine plow and I got a bug to build a big rig, so I grabbed this Peterbilt as well. I also managed to finally get the Pro Modeller Daytona on the cheap so I nabbed it also.

On the bench:

A lot !! And I mean A LOT!!

Joe,

Nice haul.  How many GT40s are you planning to build?

For those looking at the Mustang GT4, get it.  It's a great kit.  Haven't seen a photoetch kit for it yet, but Studio 27 makes a carbon fiber decal sheet for it.  It's missing a few things so I may use it as a template and use Scale Motorsport's high def carbon fiber decals instead.  I went to the hobby shop yesterday and came home with this.

I wasn't planning on buying any more models, but this was half the price of the Revell Germany offering that was also on the shelf.  Same kit, two very different prices.  I went needing some paint for my IDF GB Spitfire and Tamiya tape.  The sales guy asked me if I was looking for anything in particular,  and I jokingly asked if he had any Tamiya Semi-Gloss Black in the rattle can.  Amazingly, he had three cans in the rack.  I bought two.  Haven't seen it in a shop or online for several months now.

Buddy- Those who say there are no stupid questions have never worked in customer service.
