You'll be surprised, Jun!

The BAC 'elders' are having a hard time winning in our internal contest these days! New members such as mang ernie, super mario and fritz which the club has labeled as 'the emerging superpowers' are turning out great models! Bow [bow]

In our last internal contest 'Enter the British' held last March, 50% of the total awards were won by these 'superpowers'! Yeah!! [yeah] Check out pictures of these models in our web and you'll agree with me. Approve [^]

So, this Sunday? Who will win??

Abangan! Laugh [(-D]

I can't wait... Wink [;)]

But really, in IPMS-Manila also, the new guys take the cake over the more "experienced" (not old, mind you) ones. During the first internal competiton we had, the youngest member (I think Jobet is bout 14) took the better of most of the older guys in the fixed wing category. Even Mike Jorge, a modeler who's been out of it for over 20 years won first in the 1/72 armor category. He bested several guys that were "real" armor guys (parang si Albert ba). Anyway, I guess it's time for the new guys t come in and show their stuff. During the beginning, there were Bert and Tiggy, etal... Then came our era where you, Albert, Mel, Ping, Hermie, Desi and the others were lauded as the gurus... Now, I guess it's time to pass the baton over to the younger guys.

Why do I suddenly feel OLD...[:0]

But seriously, our clubs has never really been for us. They have and I guess must always be for the future... lest the club dies.

Point well taken Sigman... point well taken.

Let this message of Sigman be a wakeup call to all. I've been to many message boards and have moderated a few. There are times when "misunderstandings" and "misinterpretations" creep into the picture.

Remember, in this forum, we are only able to use 14% of our inherent capabilities to communicate. We can't see the other's "body language" nor can we hear the tones of their voices. It's very easy to misconstrue or misinterpret one's meaning this way.

... my two cents worth. Angel [angel]

Now what would you feel if you're just a regular or a new customer of a certain establishment and you find out that this establishment favors a certain group of select customers and offers them extra-special favors? Wouldn't you rather go to an establishment which offers their services who has special offers for everyone regardless of whether you are a regular or a new customer? Walang special-special? Smile [:)]

cbrain,
You seem to have missed my point entirely.
First, I am not a "special customer" of STC. You just assumed I was. I am a friend of the owner.

Second, what I said was " STC give discounts to its customers, to those who deserve it and not to those who demand it. " No mention of " special customers" there . " Those who deserve it " refers to those customers (regular or new) who ASK KINDLY for a discount. Big difference between ASKING and DEMANDING. And there are some who literally demand that they be given discounts for their purchases. Some even hold grudges (sama ng loob) when they are not given the amount of discount they had ask for.

hi rico,

i have always bought my gunze paints, thinners and surfacers at STC. also some modeling references, tools and stuff. even kits that are not available at other hobby shops. and i have been ASKING KINDLY if i can get a discount. i dont expect a hefty discount everytime i purchase an item or two. a few pesos off would be nice once in a while.

but the answer always seems to be 'sir, fix price'. Sad [:(]

i guess i just dont deserve to be given a discount and i dont know why. Ashamed [*^_^*]

maybe because i'm not a friend of the owner? Confused [%-)]

just a thought... Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

cheers!

Third, the part of my post from " Personally, I don't ask ........" up to the last word is my personal philosophy in general about dealing with people/establishments that I do business with. Hence the word " Personally" in the beginning of the paragraph. In no way was it meant to reflect upon the policy of STC towards its customers. And establishments do have special customers. Banks have them. Credit Card Companies - Platinum and Gold Card Holders. Cell phone companies, restaurants and hotels etc.
Last, STC prices are fair. They are not over priced. Their prices reflects the cost incurred in getting the items into the store shelves. A high price for a certain item doesn't necessarily mean it's over priced. It just means a higher cost for said item. Again, big difference between "High Price" and "Over Price". Also "patung" is not a nice word to use as a substitute.

Rico

Please re-read my previous posts.

First - I never stated you as a special customer of STC.... I only asked if you were a special customer of STC.

Second - Hmn.... now I agree to that. Now, who in this thread could be holding any grudge against an establishment kasi hindi nabigyan ng discount?

Third - All those you mentioned about banks, credit cards, restaurants, and hotels, have extra services that are being paid for by the customers who want those services. Platinum cards have higher premiums and annual fees, restaurants have VIP sections with extra charges for the special service, hotels have suites which also have higher charges than the regular rates. What I'm trying to say is that the customers pay more for these extra services by these establishments. The "special customers" I mentioned in my previous post are the special customers who get to pay less for that extra attention. Big difference there.

Fourth - if you would re-read my previous post....
QUOTE: Remember.... there can only be a handful of special customers.... it's the regular customers who make the bulk of the purchases. Never disregard the regular or walk-in customers too. And you will never keep any customers if your items are defective or over-priced.

You'd notice na I never addressed it to anyone or a single establishment. I only reminded everyone whether a customer or a tindera or a shop owner to also give attention to regular and new customers. Porque hindi siya "special customer" e hindi na ba siya dapat bigyan ng attention? Mali yun diba?

I'm just stating and defending my points Rico.... nothing personal. Okay? Smile [:)] And don't forget, I bear no grudges with them. Regular din ako ng STC.... 2 branches pa nga e, that's STC Festival and Hobbitoi in ATC. Kilala ako ng mga tindera dun and kilala ko sila.... I don't know the owner though.

I'm not authorized to answer your question but just for you guys to get a picture I'll just say that the owner of STC has some personal issues (bad cheese maybe?) with BAC. I really don't know the whole story behind it, I'm just a couple of months old being a member of BAC. Maybe the other veteran members of BAC can enlighten you on the subject? Question [?]

Let's ask Ben Borja. He knows the owner of STC. Maybe the issue has been sttled already. I'm really not into these issues (I've had enough politics for one lifetime... Dead [xx(])

Alas, it would be better for all of us if we work to make things whole rather than take things apart... after all, we are MODELERS and what we do best is BUILD... Big Smile [:D]

I agree with you, pre... Actually, I don't think Winston or Shakes or Natalie or Roel can afford to turn down customers at this time. The economy is soooo bad that everyone has to trouble ekeing out a decent living these days. It goes for everyone (who doesn't have a "pork barrel" of course).

These owners can't afford to antagonize us customers lest we close them down - literally by not buying from them no matter what.

By the way, did anyone send a poster to STC? Baka naman they haven't kaya there's none. (...just a thought) Big Smile [:D]

Personally, I don't asked for special discounts or deals with people or establishments that I do business with. It's one mark of being a good customer. Pretty soon, they'll be the one giving you the preferential treatment without you asking for it so that they can keep your business. And your going to be treated better than their regular customers. It's one thing to be frugal and thrifty , another to be a "barat" or "kuripot" (cheapskates).

Yeah you got a point there emaula.... so are you one of those "special customers" of STC? Wink [;)] I dunno if it was one of their discounts, maybe just a promo but I once bought a kit there, and to my surprise the tinderas added in one of those Academy mini catalogues. Well, that was the first time that happened.... maybe it was just a promo or nakulitan lang sakin because everytime I enter their establishment I tend to ask (naging parang habit na) if they're on sale or when they're gonna have a sale whenever Festival Mall has this mallwide sale.

I tend to be makulit to the tinderas asking about sales or special promos without expecting them to really give me a discount. It's just building rappor with them. It's nice to enter a shop wherein the tinderas acknowledge you not because you're just gonna buy from them but also because they know you're a friendly customer. Wink [;)] I also was a proprietor before but not for a hobby shop, and if you really want to keep and gain customers sales and promos really can boost your sales and keep the returning customers and not shoo them away to your competitors.

Remember.... there can only be a handful of special customers.... it's the regular customers who make the bulk of the purchases. Never disregard the regular or walk-in customers too. And you will never keep any customers if your items are defective or over-priced. Approve [^]
