Sure! I will take shots of this 30% done Seaking. I seldom use paints straight out of the bottle. Even FS's. Remember that there is a term called "Scale effect" where the model should appear lighter than the actual thing. I saw the USS New Jersey from the Ben Franklin Bridge in PA and it looked very light sea gray. When I went aboard it, it was dark! I got chips of paint from the flooring and took it home as a swatch. I still went for a lighter shade.

So don't bother yourself too much with the FS's. Do it the way you want it to look. After all, the models that win contests are seldom painted conservatively from the instruction manual. Dead [xx(]

Have fun dude!

Tama. Mag model na lang tayo! Para masaya! Reggie, you should see how my seaking is doing. Aw! I love this model. Pero mas magaling yung pagkagawa ni allan. You, Reggie, should look for this kit there in the US.

It all began as a contest for laughs, but no one was laughing when Hermie brought forth his scratchbuilt Corregidor gun and his completely unbuttoned 1/48 S-70 Blackawk, both unfinished. This guy is so good even if unpainted his works still draw the oohhs and the ahhs.

You mean that Corregidor Gun aint finished yet!?! That was unfinished 2 years ago. Argh! I hope Hermie gets it done. Even in its unfinished state, I was salivating. Ang galing. He truly is a master modeler..and you can take that to the bank!

Well it's on the right wing of Viramall on the first floor behind/beside what looked like a chinese drugstore. Smile [:)] It's kinda hidden but it's right in front of another toy store.... the other store has no model kits though. Disapprove [V]

I'm not sure or maybe I didn't notice if they do have that.... My eyes were glued on to the sci-fi model kits area looking for that ARII and Macross logo on the sides of those boxes. Tongue [:P]

Yes sir, I will take good care of that VF-1S Gerwalk. I'm planning to maybe retouch its imperfections someday, when I gain enough skill to do the task.

Anyway, has anybody ever kit-bashed any of these ARII 1/100 Macross kits? Would you be willing to (ahem) sell or donate your unused or unwanted spare plastics or decals for me to restore some of my ARII 1/100 Macross kits? I have one Valkyrie and one Battroid that really needs those spares.... this was the result of my cousins aged 4 to 10 y.o. invading my room when I was away.

Ill have to go with Beth, Lani, CBrain and the others on this.

Ive been building and, naturally, buying model kits since 1983 (I started young, hehehe). STC (it wasnt known then as such) was one of the hobby shops I went to. All that time the only discount I could remember was P3 slashed off from the price of a Hasegawa F-4K/M. No, I didnt make a mistake. Three pesos. But Im not complaining.

Slowly, over the years, I decided not to buy from STC entirely. Im not a rich man, but to me the discount is only secondary. Customer service is the prime reason. Its not very good. And to me this is important.

I have to disagree with some of the posts made apparently in defense of the store. Yes, the salesclerks are not authorized to give discounts, but is the store owner authorized to mistreat customers? Ever heard of stories where customers are told "di naman pala bibili, eh"? Well, this author was one of those on the receiving end.

Beth is right. We should talk about these things. Its called "Consumer Rights." If people have gripes about a merchant, he or she has every right to complain. The fact that there are only a few stores in the country does not mean we have to learn to live with the merchant's character; its just so sad. We have free enterprise. And the customer is always right.

Wow! The "di naman pala bibili eh!" incident really happen pala! Well, at least that kind of rude attitude hasn't rubbed off yet unto the "tinderas" of the two STC-owned shops I frequent.

Nga pala, I passed by Viramall in Greenhills this evening right after the IPMS-Phils. BAC Cup and I chanced upon this store named Best Toys. It's got lots of them collectible toys and sci-fi model kits (Gundams). And I found one (maybe the last) ARII Macross 1/100 Battroid (Millia Type) kit priced at PhP 269.75 (price sticker)... as I was holding it in my grubby hands and inspecting the kit, out of habit I asked "M'am, eto na po ba last price nito?" without expecting any since this was my first time in this shop. Well, to my surprise I was given a discount.... I got it for PhP 250.00 Ain't that nice? If any of you collectors, sci-fi or Gundam kit fans are shopping within that vicinity, check this store out. Wink [;)] May iba pa bang branches ito? Tongue [:P]

Right you re there emjaetee... Do you have an entry? I enjoy seeing the Philippine markings on the models. It's such a novelty.

Where are the models going afterwards? Will they be donated to some museum? It would be a great idea to do so (for posterity's sake) Big Smile [:D]

Shonen: that was you with the 2 shermies? the guy next to me during allan's panel line demo?

Allan: Thanks again for taking pics of my A/C! I can't wait to see those pics, and the pics of the contest itself on the BAC homepage!!

arlmags

Oh that... It's not really that way. Actually, you'll notice I've even told them off regarding the issue. I've had my share of "horror stories" at the different shops too - believe me. I'm not particularly happy with the type of servie STC gives out either (I just can't say the expletives I want to say about some of their sales people here because I'd probably get banned from the forum... Tongue [:P])

But please don't generalize it as "bias"... please.

I am a frequent customer of Lil's Mega (because I live nearby). I know these people well because I'm there almost every Saturday (while my wife is in the grocery) buying paints, models or just browsing or catching up on stuff with other modelers I know (from all the different clubs). I also frequent the STC in Recto (because I'm in the vicinity often). Most of the time I get irritated when a new sales person comes in and is unable to assist a modeler - or customer (not necessarily me) in his/her needs. Whenever I do see this happening, I tell Ben ASAP. As I mentioned, he knows the owner. It's my way of ensuring it doesn't happen to any of you guys too. I don't think you can call that "biased or evasive" di ba?

That's why in my thread to Reggie Francia here I mentioned that it's good for us to be discussing these things here for as long as heads remain "cool" Cool [8D]

Like I keep on saying... We are a small group of people in a hobby that very few want to get into. To sow the seeds of divisiveness and mistrust is not only bad for the hobby, it's downright criminal.

Please let me know by quoting me if I've ever done something like that and I will personally apologize to everyone.

It has never been my intention - nor the intention of anyone in IPMS/Manila (because if they do - they'll be in violation of our Constitution and Bylaws) to do anything inimical to the interests of the hobby in general. Cooler heads must prevail and issues put to rest. It's been so long and it's getting tiresome and boring already (like a re-run of Gilligan's Island).

By the way, good luck on the BAC Cup. What are you entering?

Would'nt it be much better if we had a different thread for this? It seems kasi this kind of topic pabalik balik. di mamatay matay. at least if we had a new thread solely for this we can concentrate on the 'helping other modelers/getting to know othe filipino modelers' topic?

You know Reggie, Beth and Allan are right in wanting these thngs to be out in the open. They not only educate the consumer on what to expect, how to act but also inform people on issues that could be detrimental to all of us. For example, if someone over-priced you in a model store (any store), you could inform the guys here and the practice will be cut because we wouldn't dare buy that particular item there anymore. It would also "level off" the playing field for these stores since the prices and stock availabilities are being disseminated through this forum. In that regard the discussion is great.

If you noticed a few messages back I reacted regarding the issue of the discussion pertaining to a certain issue of a certain store. It was already getting a little "heated" so I decided to back up Sigman so the issue would sort of "cool down" a little. But all-in-all, I'm glad we're exchanging ideas in this foruum. Maybe to have a separate thread for it would be a little too much for now but if this trend will continue, that's exactly what will happen. Trust me on this. It's something that happens without anyone asking for it. Big Smile [:D]

Oo naman, pre... I agree with you entirely. I remember during my BBS days (when the Internet was only for those who could afford it) Emoticons and CAPS had to be used to convey the "feelings" of the speaker. But it is never enough. Oh well, that's that. We can go on with the subject at hand... modeling!!!

By the way, I wonder who makes those Anime figures for Comic Alley? I wish they'd sell them in parts like Verlinden... It could be profitable for them also eh. They have a customer in me already.

So, this Sunday? Who will win??

I have no idea (though, i'm thinking it's gonna ba lipton with his tricked out sabre! provided of course that he finishes on time... Wink [;)]). This is one of the few contests i have participated in that didn't make me want to win. Actually, i expect to loose quite badly, but it doesn't bother me one bit (though, i wouldn't mind winning something, either...). Just being able to stand toe to toe with some of the best modelers in the country is good enough for me!

I just wanted to share this feeling with the rest of you guys, because it's so weird! Also, this sunday, i get to show off the hobby to a friend of mine that may be interested in picking up the hobby! Big Smile [:D]

Good luck to all the participants of the BAC cup!! Thumbs Up [tup]

Bad news, I WASN'T ABLE TO FINISH IT on time. Disapprove [V] But I'll bring the in-progress bird with me tommorrow.

Next year maybe. Big Smile [:D]Big Smile [:D]Big Smile [:D]

Thanks for the heads up on my sig. Cool [8D]

Good day!
-Lipton-

You know Lipton, Allan I still agree about the suggestion during one of our former meetings (I think that was the time Rancie brought his unfinished tank at Jay's house) that we really shuld have a category for best "Work in Progress"... It always happens to me too eh... Big Smile [:D]

C'mon Sigman... don't be shy... Wink [;)] After all, there is only one store in Harrison (at least as far as I can remember). Hi! Natalie - if you're reading this... Big Smile [:D]

I seldom go there because it's kinda out of my way but the selection they have is quite good.

ben,noel,jun, and ermualla

why does it never stops and keeps falling on deaf ears? that store, its owner and all its branches are the first thing that pops up on your website, and having recalled seeing your posters and reg forms on most if its branches,. your chapter and that store supports each other, i see now your reason for being so evasive and bias.

Will I be seeing your Sabre? Ill tell you stories about the wargames, man. That was a blast! Hehehe!

Yep! I've just finished the Sabre (talk about cramming, huh?), and i can now say that it is (quite litterally) a work of my blood, sweat and tears... Sweat is easy enough to come by but as i was moving the model, my arm snagged on my pin vise with the fine needle tip attached and it fell on my foot... OWW!!! Shock [:O] This is where the blood and tears kick in... As I am typing this i'm chanting "ignore the pain..." Did i say "Oww!!!" already?? Dead [xx(]

I can't wait to hear your war stories, man!! (I know i have one to share tomorrow!) Big Smile [:D]

(Ignore the pain, ignore the pain, ignore the pain, ignore the pain....)

Would'nt it be much better if we had a different thread for this? It seems kasi this kind of topic pabalik balik. di mamatay matay. at least if we had a new thread solely for this we can concentrate on the 'helping other modelers/getting to know othe filipino modelers' topic?
