Thanks guys. It doesn't seem to me that I build particularly fast, but perhaps I do. I actually like seam filling, or at least I really like that first coat of primer when it finally looks like a whole rather than a bunch of parts. I build car models occasionally, so I use a polyester glazing putty (autobody product) for seam filling. It's a bit of a pain since you have to mix it with a hardener, but it dries in 10 minutes, it's very fine grained and it doesn't shrink at all. Sort of required to get a high gloss finish on a car model, but works good for flat finishes also.

I'm not sure I like the metallic lightweight paint. I'm afraid it will look toy-like on a small scale airplane. Not very intimidating.

Looking forward to seeing your versions.

Yeah, you're rignt. That paint looks pretty bad. And what's up with the purple tint to it? Looks like someone entered that Osprey onto "Pimp My Ride." There's a reason camouflage paints have been flat for the past - oh 60 years now.

So far the biggest thing I've done for my workshop is today I bought two old steel tables (the kind with the single drawer in the middle) for $35 a pop.

I miss not being able to build!Sad [:(]

Anybody seen a Roden 1/48 Mohawk kit around these parts? No? I'm about to start pulling out my hair! I want to get cracking on my escort and I'm stuck in limbo right now.

Well, maybe I'll get some interior paint on the AV-22 in the meantime...

Hey, look at the bright side - at least you've got a place to work. I'm going nuts over here unpacking. I've got WAY too much crap downstairs I've got to go thru.

I can sympathize with you there, too. I get to go through that joy about every three years! And what is usually one of the last things to get unpacked? That's right, my kits and supplies, probably because the Lady of the house knows that I'd just live out of the boxes and work on kits rather than continue to unpack and put away everything we've collected over almost 11 years of marriage and three little Jellos...that's a LOT of stuff, by the way.

Can't you sneak a little bit of building in? It'll make you feel better.

Not much progress this week due to other priorities. But I did start working on the nacelles. I decided that they looked OK for a transport, but I wanted a little more mean look. So I used some epoxy putty to add a point to the spinner and also extended the inlet forward so I could add a little rake to it. What do you think?

If I had been thinking, I would have taken a picture before I did both nacelles so it would be easier to compare. Next is to finish work on the landing gear.

Funny you should mention that! I went by the LHS for the first time in about a month. (I didn't miss out anything) and picked up a 1/72 A-7D for a "shake-n-bake"
build, pulled two boxes of the supplies out and started doing a little bit of work on it this evening, putting together the subassemblies. I realized that I too would live out of those boxes if I let myself and it could take up time I need to spend unpacking, taking care of the yard, yadda yadda yadda... So I'll get to a stopping point with it and go back to moving in.

A quick congratulations to you, Grant!!! Appreciate all your input here on the forums.

Par429, that build is coming along extremely nicely! All the little things, like reshaping the nacelles and spinner, is really going to give it a mean, polished look in the end.

Those are some nice details you've added, Phil. Nice work with the putty, and I think you'll have the best looking of the designs here, and it'll be a race between me and Trigger for the ugliest.

Really, just some fine work so far.

Phil -
Nice nacelle

LJ -
Right now, it'll be a photo finish, but we gotta keep an eye out for Screaminhelo when he gets back. I know he's doing something involving Apache and A-10 parts but that's all he'll tell me. He could have one of these up his sleeve... http://www.snopes.com/photos/animals/uglydog.asp

AH1WSnake -
Thanks!

Grant-
I resemble that remark!Wink [;)]

I'm not real sure what is going to happen here! Once I cut the A-10 wing off and started work to move it to the top things started to snowball. Now that I should have some time to work on it maybe I can make some of these odd pieces stick to each other.

BTW
We were flying out of NAS New Orleans, home of the 709th FW Cajuns. Seeing those A-10's on the ramp got me reved up and ready to go!

I forgot to thank you. I got them today as a matter of fact. I had to laugh when I looked in the mailbox when I pulled in and saw the box.

New Orleans stinks! Really, it smells AWFUL right now.

No worries. Glad they got there when you got home - heaven knows I took long enough to get 'em in the mail. Was everything included that you wanted?

Geeze, I may never get mine out of the design stages if Squadron doesn't ship my Mohawk soon. This is getting frustrating...

I have a canopy around here somewhere. It is in a pile, or drawer, or box....
I know it is here somewhere. In the meantime, I am thinking about trying something akin to a Hind with a couple of fastmover canopies.

Progress report. I have finished work on one of the engine nacelles. As you may recall, I'm going to use a Harrier type landing gear with outriggers on the nacelles. So here is the finished nacelle (top) compared to the unmodified nacelle. I added some depth to make room for the retracted strut. When retracted, the outrigger tire will fit in the notch at the bottom of the nacelle.

Now I have to finish the other nacelle. Probably my least favorite part about modelling is having to repeat work.

Anyone else doing anything?

Nope. Still haven't set up my workshop. It's kind of a domino effect here setting up rooms. I need to finish one before I can complete the next one. Trying to get some new furniture and make sure everything's where I want it - don't want to move it around 2-3 times. Plus, there are other things lately that have taken precedent over models. Settling in is taking longer than I had hoped, but it's not all that bad.

Phil, your work is looking mighty fine. Keep it up. You'll keep me motivated to start once I get all my parts!

I'm sorting out where my Mohawk is, plus the workload has been heavy lately, so not much to report on at the LemonJello Works.

Hey, Trigger, have you found anything while unpacking that makes you scratch your head and think, "Now, when did I get that?"?

Frankencopter has been on hold for a while now. Just after getting caught up after visiting New Orleans, I had to take Miss Piggy to Hunter AAF to the RESET facilitySad [:(].

Phil, I like your idea for the outriggers. I may adopt a similar approach.

LOL... almost. I'll find something and nine times outta ten, I'll distinctly remember when I got it. The real question is usually either "I've got one of these?" or "What in the world was I thinking?" (ie - "What am I gonna do with 40 subscriptions to Vibe?")

Well, I've been emailing Squadron about my Mohawk, and it appears that the Interweb ate my order! I even have the email response from the website and a printed reciept from when I placed the order, but their systems don't have anything for me. So I asked them to re-order the kit and shoot it off to me. Maybe I'll actually get to start grafting V-22 parts onto my escort soon?

LJ, Screaminhelo & myself - we'd better hurry up; the Pentagon gave the green light yesterday for full-scale production of the Osprey and I stil don't know what they'll have to protect it. Phil, you seem to be doing just fine.

On a serious note: LJ - That sucks! I'd be pushing them for free shipping or credit or something for that kind of screw up.

Wow, Full Scale Production of V-22's. I have moved from Concept Development to Detail Design.

Jeff, you talking about the AV-8B refueling probe? I looked at it and decided it was too close to the rotors. The nose is a bit short on my design. So I went with an extendable probe along the left side of the nose. Just model it retracted and you don't have to worry about the details.

I should have some new pics in a day or two.

Well, I sorted out the Mohawk ordering issue, and at long last, mine should be on the way here. Soooooo...I'm hoping to get some mock up shots done of it as soon as I can.

Can't wait for some more shots of your great work, Phil!
