I haven't worked that out yet, I may be going back to an internal bay of some kind. I'll know more when I get the engine nacelles and rotors put together and hung on the wing...centerline seems the best bet right now.

I'm kinda stuck on having a couple of rotary launchers...just because I think they're cool.

LJ-
Looks pretty good, although you sure are going to get lots of practice with the filler. With the sponsons you should have plenty of room underneath for weapons. Looks like you can use the existing gear bays, and just add some taller landing gear struts to make room underneath.

Great start, keep us updated.

I've got a drawing I'll e-mail to you tonight that might help you make up your mind.

Oh, it's measure twice and cut once. I lost my camera, but you guys would really get a kick out of seeing this beast right now. The Apache cockpit didn't quite work out like I thought it would. Landing gear I think will get worked out in the end though.

Phil & LJ-
Both looking GREAT!

The hardest cut was that first one for me. After that, I figured "Well, it's already chopped, may as well keep going!"

I think I'll get the cockpit put together and painted and then go back to the fuselage and all that gap filling. Oh, maybe get the engines assembled as well...

Looking real sharp, Phil!

It has been quiet, hasn't it? Not much to report on this end. I've gotten the major assemblies for the office done, just need to paint it up and then I can start on the fuselage with the putty...lots of putty.

Progress has been a little slow lately, but I have finished the decals, windows (that seemed to take forever) and the rear gun.  Not too much left to do, just weapons, a little detail painting, and some weathering.  I still have not made a final decision about what to put on each station, but at least one load of Hellfire, one LAU-61 for rockets and I'm not sure what else.  I'll have to try some things and see what looks good.

As always, comments welcome.

The minis are a nice added touch, Phil and the decals and paint look sharp.  Most impressive!

I did get a little work in the other night,  I put the consoles together and shot some interior black for the office, so I can work on the details for that and get it installed.  Plus I've got one nacelle done and ready to go on the wing.  Hope to get some more done this weekend.

I've got to get another online account for my photos, the old one got shut down.  Any suggestions?

I've started trying to modify the mix of landing gear from the two donor kits to give my creation a little more ground clearance.  Then I can hang some centerline weapons hardpoints.

Combined parts from both the Mohawk and the Osprey with a little brass rod to get a taller, two-wheel nose setup.  That was the easy one.  The main sets are going to need a lot more work.

I'll post some photos once I get my web hosting issues sorted out (hopefully soon).

I too, wish I could have been in this one earlier.  Such is life in fora, though <g>

Now, as someone with way too many MV-22A hours in MS Flight Sim, the low speed flight attitude makes for some interesting dynamics and attitudes.  You can't really "wheel" around, helo-style on the bird.  (One of my cronies works over a Vertol and says the FS model is "really close")  That actually makes a good case for a remotely operated turret or turrets.

The Citation "blend" actually carries that out well.

Now, as a former CAS "customer" I know one of the very real problems working in the littoral is "you use whatcha got."  I've often wondered when we'll see an "aramament" kit for the stock Osprey.  Not being very fast (CH-53E speeds), that could mean MG's in side window mounts.  But, what a person could also do is put a multi-purpose rail (rails) over the mainmounts' side sponsons (surprise, bad guys, sidewinder or the tube-pack stinger; oh, and yes, ground bad guys, those are TOWs or hellfires <G>.

For refueling, I still wonder why they just don't use a system similar to the S-3, with a central probe up and over the cockpit--but I suspect the wing root transmission & pivot assembly is a bit in the way.  Which still suggests to me that a 53-style probe might work, instead.

Hmm, what an excellent thought excercise (which helps get over the jealosy of how nicely the model went together . . . )

Hey, thanks to all for the comments.  Here are some more pictures.  Now that I have added some weapons and done a little light weathering, I think I'm done.  Overall, I'd have to say that I am pretty happy with how it turned out.  However, there are a few minor things I would change if I did it again, but as a concept demonstrator, I think it works.  Thanks to everyone who had helpful suggestions and comments.

I had a lot of fun with this, and I look forward to seeing some of the other ideas as some of the other versions progress.  As always, comments and suggestions welcome, both the good and the bad, it can only help those who are still working.

Phil, she's a winner and I'll come right out and say it...I'm jealous!  You've really done a great job blending the two kits together to make a killer escort.  I've been getting some work done on my beast and I can only hope she looks half as good as yours.

Hope I have some photos to show soon, but things are hectic as of late.

Well, I'm reviving this thread to report that my project is going into mothballs for about six months.  I just got a short fused tasker dropped in my lap, so I'll be taking a little trip.  I plan on having some kits and supplies sent to me,  but it'll be kits that I'm not planning on bringing back home, so that leaves the escort and my AV-22 sitting at home waiting for me.  Such is life.  I'll try to get back here and visit with you all when time allows, and I look forward to seeing some of these other creations, so keep the updates coming.
